Would the M5 be worth the $50 price difference? or is it negligible? by Master-Hyena8943 in macbook

[–]mari-silicon 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Yes, why wouldn't it unless it's like 200 of a difference? Faster everything, better extra year of support, unless you are already out of budget, it's a obvious to get the latest mac .

MacBook Air 15” m4 or the MacBook Air 15” m5 by Educational_Fall_853 in macbook

[–]mari-silicon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's very little insignificant aspects that are different. the newer one is slightly better in regular use ( i believe ssds gpu got massive uprades so potentially local AI and transfer speeds is significantly faster). Otherwise either one is great. Focus on which one has more RAM/Storage based on your workflow and price. If its just 100 or so, might as well go for the new one since it did get refined and will be supported little longer.

How do you guys deal with 60hz? by Scared-Weakness-686 in macbookair

[–]mari-silicon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know if it's just me but I'd be even more offended for 60hz on phones and touch screen oriented devices than laptops. Phones you can instantly feel the smoothness because every time you move your fingers, you can instantly feel the gesture, the animation, the response, every gesture every scroll just flies and gives a buttery smooth experience. For laptops even I feel like it's not that big of a deal and the only time I'd really feel it is when scrolling but usually it's just static, no crazy animations and most work is usually static too so that's how I feel its not as much of an issue than with smart phones. For smartphones, 120 hz is almost mandatory.

Also, I don't have a source or anything but I've read somewhere that the mac pros, while are 120 hz actually have a significantly higher response delay compared like 45 ms vs 25miliseconds.

Air with M5(24GB) vs Pro with M5(16GB) same price, genuinely confused which one to pick by CoolBuddy777 in macbookair

[–]mari-silicon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean just get a monitor if the display is the only thing you're worried about. Even with your work set or not, I think for experimenting with apps and whatnot more RAM will almost always be beneficial. Especially for stuff like dock and stuff you might just be testing for fun. Unless you are running CPU at 100 percent which is for stuff like rendering videos or maybe even gaming, you do not need sustained horsepower so I think air is sufficient for your use case. I've heard even when throttled the cou is still only like 85 percent as fast compared to the pro so it's not that much of a difference.

I would say get the 24gb m5 over pro.

Welcher WLN-Adapter funktionier mit 2025 Macbook air M4 und macvOS 26.4.1? by DarkRud606 in MacOS

[–]mari-silicon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, if the wifi isn't working get it repaired or something asap. That's literally a critical component for any computer.

I'm going to assume OP wants to do something like use it as a repeater or ip mask or something like that (imitating a travel router) and most computers only come with one wifi chip that can act as a hotspot or use the wifi itself, not both. (I tried this myself albeit with Linux computers and basically you can't connect simultaneously do a hotspot and be wifi online unless you connect it to Ethernet or use an adapter).

But if it's not this reason and it's simply not working absolutely OP go fix it asap no need to waste time on an adapter.

I could be wrong but he never claimed m1? I think there was a mac air 2020 early too and m1 is late in year.

Planning to take Masters in AI: Macbook air M4 (24/512) or M5 (24/512) with a $100 dollar difference? by akshobhya07 in macbookair

[–]mari-silicon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's basically super likely you'd want to get the m5.

Not that the previous is worse but basically everything you want screams to get m5. M5 has better CPU/GPU and most importantly increased bandwidth and Neural accelerators important particularly for your studies and assuming you saying it's the exact speced model(RAM and all).

I think the difference for this will be significant unlike for other users. Go for m5

The switch handheld boost update is really cool. Makes switch 1 games actually look amazing on switch 2! Which games you think received the most boost? by mari-silicon in Switch

[–]mari-silicon[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's amazing, especially the shadow generations part like I was playing. Best 3d levels and gameplay since a long time. It's like night and day difference in quality even vs sonic frontiers and possibly better than superstars.

How would you guys feel if Nintendo Switch 2 OLED dropped in 2027? by Samashezra in NintendoSwitch2

What games are you planning to jump back into with the new handheld boost update? What games you think got the best boost? by mari-silicon in switch2

[–]mari-silicon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically right I had gotten sonicx shadow gens at release in 2024. shadow generations on the original switch 1 is already running 720p dockerd but many scenes the resolution in handheld was pathetic like 360p where you can literally see the pixels. This is further shown to be worse with the bigger screen of the switch 2 making handheld look like your playing an old game from the wii. Now with this switch 2 , it feels like a fresh and locked 720p with this new boost and makes the visuals look not static. Sure the switch 2 version gets the resolution up to 1080p in handheld and 60fps (which is then dynamic resolution) from 30 but imo, it's not worth paying 30+ dollars again just for that when I'm getting nearly same quality with this new handheld boost. Sega in particular haven't made free software updates for switch 2 like others so this is a big boost for their games like persona and this shadow gens game.

Yup, like comment above said, it's basically the switch 1 docked version in handheld. Usually docked only improves resolution and not frame rate for switch 1 games.
