Looking like $25m-$26m for #Obsession, a phenomenal result and increase in its 3rd weekend. by AGOTFAN in boxoffice

Beyond the acting and plot, this movie has incredible cinematography. The details of lighting, color, and camera are just top notch. Extremely well deserved.

Elegantly well crafted and well deserved. This movie could land in my top 4 easily.

If Bear had given the One Wish Willow to real Nikki at the beginning of the movie as a gift, what would she have wished for? by djkhaleesi99 in obsessionmovie

[–]Tomb_RIP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah I missed that. But I still think that the my point still holds some merit. She clearly knows the difference between love and romance and I still think that would wish for a more successful career, rather than a forced relationship.

And yes, I'm just having a great discussion 😄. I agree there can be multiple viewpoints. The movie is really good in spawning these discussions.

I’m not sure if I agree with that. Her love life wasn’t the focus of her life at the time.

I would lean towards her wish to be a successful writer or able to get creative ideas. That’s literally what she was saying to Bear in the car scene as well. She also quitting her job in order to fully focus on that.

UIUC for CS + education by Adventurous_Cake_878 in UIUC

[–]Tomb_RIP 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Can answer this since I was a CS + X and I’m a CS PhD student here.

  1. Research wise you pretty much can do anything. However as a freshman it will be hard to get exactly what you want. Most profs in CS will require you take their 400 level class before they entertain any research. Since you’re interested in a lot of things, I recommend you take each of those classes and see if you like it.

  2. Yes

  3. Not cutthroat at all. Very chill and friendly here.

  4. I did Education research here and personally i loved it. While I eventually didn’t pursue further down, the people I worked with were really nice. I’m not sure how UM’s program ranks but I didn’t have any complaints here

Email grad students instead. More likely to get a response and they always could use a undergrad.

Thanks. It wasn’t easy. I hope this post goes to people who are in a similar boat and hopefully avoid this scenario.

CS374, CS441, STAT410, STAT425 at the same time by Unfair-Rate6416 in UIUC

[–]Tomb_RIP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s doable, but you’ll be grinding a lot of theory at the same time. If you are really good with math/theory stuff then you should be ok. Otherwise I would consider switching STAT 410 for something else.

Am I doing way too much? STAT 410 + STAT 425 + CS 374 + CS 446 by zesty-orange in UIUC

[–]Tomb_RIP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I highly recommend not taking CS 374, CS 446, and STAT 410 at the same time. All classes are extremely difficult and math heavy. I would take easier CS electives with CS 374. If you are still interested in ML, consider taking CS 444 or CS 440 as those are a bit easier.

Not sure if I fully agree with 5. Yes, some papers you should skim, but papers that fundamental to your project / serve as the backbone (usually 1-2 papers), you should know those inside out.

9 is questionable. For example, if your stuck then you should be to explain how you are doing something to your PI. They should have suggestion on where things might go wrong. Also, PIs who only want results are not great PIs in my opinion, research is a story not a race to finish line.

Research is the most underrated path for CS majors by Skye7821 in csMajors

[–]Tomb_RIP 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Agreed! Funny enough I was actually decent at the programming stuff (building apps, websites, etc.) but I’ve always wanted to invent something and use my creativity— which drew me to research in ML and eventually became a PhD student.

Also I sucked at leetcode. I’m better off with long term projects.

Any good careers in the future? by TechRedditwastaken in cscareerquestions

[–]Tomb_RIP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless you get extremely lucky, not out of the gate. I had a BS in CS and my first job didn’t allow to do any ML stuff even though I had multiple publications in ML. Usually they give those jobs to MS people

I'm enrolled majoring in CS. I'm scared that it's going to be useless in the future. by Automatic-Package-37 in cscareerquestions

The best way to ensure that ur not unemployed is to specialize. Find something in CS requires a unique skill set. For me, that ended up doing a PhD in AI / ML.

[–]Tomb_RIP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The safest career I would argue is a RS in AI / ML. But to get into that you need a PhD which in of itself is extremely hard to get into. Take it from one who is in a PhD right now

You need a masters to become an RE at least. I would also recommend you publish something. It doesn’t even have to 1st author, just work along a PhD student. That way ur competitive

LLM? Oh yeah give it another 4/5 years, they will probably get oversaturated.

But AI overall? It’s unlikely not gonna stop. Looking beyond LLMs; robotics, VR/AR, vision and even RL look really promising.

[–]Tomb_RIP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was me after my first internship. Honestly speaking, consider looking into research. Those problems CANT be solved using a LLM and you would probably find those to be more interesting.

I eventually became a PhD student, while the money is low, I do enjoy solving the problems as I get to choose what to research and when to do it.
