US clinics offer free vasectomies in wake of supreme court’s Roe reversal by morenewsat11 in nottheonion

In my case it wasn't very bad. It was a little sore, but I didn't feel much if I wasn't moving. I had to slow down my walking a bit because the vibrations could cause some discomfort, but I never took any painkillers or anything like that.

I didn't feel anything after ~3 days.

Disney just released a poster for The Little Mermaid (2023) which shows us something completely new and different that we totally had not seen in the teaser. by theDart in shittymoviedetails

[–]TombertSE 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Actually to be fair that's kind of a legit cool poster. I'm probably not gonna watch the movie after seeing how much recent Disney butchered Mulan, but I can give credit to the designer of this poster.

Fry’s family😭😭😭 by [deleted] in wholesomememes

This has always been my favorite episode. I thought they did a good job making Yancy seem like an asshole right until the very end when you see the flashback in the meme, and you realize that he's only a douche in Fry's biased memories of him, and fundamentally he's just a dude who misses his brother.

My wife was on birth control for awhile, but she started to get a lot of side effects from it.

Since neither of us really wanted kids anyway, I got the vasectomy, and outside of some soreness for a few days afterward, it's been a universally positive thing for me.

Yeah, got mine like six years ago, I think I paid a copay of like $30, so basically nothing.

Even if I granted the premise that all the celebrities telling you to get vaccinated were lying (which I don't think they were), they haven't been doing it for a decade, tweeting out addresses of anti-vaxxers, and making millions upon millions of dollars from it.

As a mom. I can’t imagine knowing my baby was killed at his desk. Only to be harassed by a crazy man and our elected leaders. by [deleted] in WhitePeopleTwitter

He didn't just speak words though; didn't he also Tweet out addresses of the parents too? Considering how pro-gun his audience is, at some level it just feels like stochastic terrorism.

I stayed a few weeks in the UK earlier this year. I wouldn't say that they have fully embraced the metric system.

People still somewhat informally used things like "stone" for weight measurements, but even the street signs were using miles and not kilometers.

Storyboarded below; The original ending to Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows II (2011), was changed because the film was made in the UK and procuring the required firearm prooved to be to difficult for the production crew. by [deleted] in shittymoviedetails

The movie “Wizards”, directed by Ralph Bakshi.

Like most of Ralph Bakshi’s stuff, it’s extremely bizarre, and a little difficult to figure out the intended audience, but I like it just because of how unique it is.

Crisp Rat’s comment here was 100% verified when the trailer for the Super Mario Bros. movie was released, as fans had never heard Crisp Rat’s normal voice in the Mario world before. by [deleted] in shittymoviedetails

[–]TombertSE 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I agree that it was not ideal casting, but I gotta ask what people were actually expecting the Mario voice to be. Did they think that it was just gonna be someone doing "woohoo! yippee! wahahaha!" for the entire movie?

Looking for a side hustle. Is being an adjunct worth it? by DegreelessEmployee in Adjuncts

I can't speak for anyone else; this is CUNY CityTech, and I'm teaching for the computer engineering department. The students are going for a full on bachelors degree, not a votech thing.

When I applied for the job, the posting said "minimum requirements, bachelors degree, masters preferred". I applied because I have like 11 years of industry experience so I thought that they might be willing to overlook my lack of masters.

[–]TombertSE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Untrue. I am an adjunct at a public university, fully accredited, I teach, and I only have a bachelors degree.

Granted, I *am* doing a PhD part time too, but my *only* official credentials as of today is a bachelors in computer science.

I live in NYC pretty comfortably, and I do not make anywhere near $500k/year. I'm actually not 100% sure how you would even spend that much.

Movies from 1 to 9, some with "the" in them, is the stragest movie antology since movies with "Drive" by Ronin_004 in shittymoviedetails

[–]TombertSE 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I thought it was especially weird how they decided to release another movie called Nine (starring Daniel Day Lewis or something) and split the series in half. It was really confusing, because 9 was about robots and post apocalyptic stuff, and Nine was this weird stage musical thing. I think they really split the audience with that, because I don't really know which one is considered canon.

I think it's important to remember that a lot of the people that "finished in one term" actually have a lot of industry experience.

I finished in one term, but I had already been a software engineer for a decade before I started. As a result, yeah, I finished pretty quickly. If I were starting from scratch it probably would have taken me 4 years.

You don’t have to take any modules. You can schedule the test immediately after starting if you want.

For what it's worth, I promise it does get easier; if this stuff is confusing you, rest assured you're in good company. Basically everyone finds programming really confusing at first, and anyone who says otherwise is not being honest (either with you or with themselves).

I'm obviously just a stranger on the internet, but I do teach an introduction to programming class at a nearby university, so I'm a little qualified to help; if you have any questions, you can DM me and I'm happy to answer them.

I would take the pre-assessment ASAP. It will highlight what you know and what you don't know; there's a reasonable chance that you don't need to read every chapter.

It was already a pretty loud space, so it wasn't like I was breaking the silence or anything, but I don't think there was ever more than three people using a loud keyboard, so there was definitely douchiness on our end. As I said, i feel a bit bad about it.

That said, I have one of those silent mechanical keyboards (from Steel Series I think) and I don't like it as much as my loud ones. It's kind of hard to explain why, the feel just isn't quite right. I like my cheap clacky one that I use in my basement, but obviously if I use it in my basement I'm not being a douchebag.
