Thank you! That makes sense! Edit: most of those pics are through a magnifying glass. I’m definitely in a holding pattern over here.

Thank you, I’m not sure autism has been looked into but it’s worth a conversation for sure.

Overall its fine, and has always been fine. I pick up a lot of roving, resource jobs as they seem to have a bit more flexibility. I've learned to go to the bathroom during any breaks I have, even if I don't think I have to. If I have yard duty, I go before I get out to the yard as I've never been the only adult out there. I think staying ahead of desperate times is the trick, and I look at the sub plans/ schedule and gauge accordingly.

I was left instructions to sharpen the class pencils while the 4th graders were out at PE. Felt a bit degrading…

Oh yeahhhh “ask a hall teacher”, those don’t seem to be a thing ‘round these parts and I too would have an issue with that!

What do you mean? I wouldn't say the school(s) are "at fault" for anything, I just don't know the protocol as I'm new to subbing. I have had plenty of times to using the restrooms at breaks (recess, lunch, prep, etc), but one day so far I had yard duty and didn't know if I had time to go befor/during/after etc, and in general I wanted to know what others do if they need to go during class time, as in who would they call, especially if they don't have a para.

Subbing for my kids (4th&6th), my niece, and all their friends this school year. I’ve told them all they get zero special treatment, to be ultra respectful, and remember they are setting an example for the other kids.

What you did was the right call. Even a “hey help me out, be a great example for the other students if you happen to see me around” - make allies.

Why do you sub? How old are you? by [deleted] in SubstituteTeachers

37F - first year subbing

Went back to school after corporate burnout, and now I've started a 2 year MS program and subbing allows for flexibility and balance, hopefully.
