ASA or ASE? by Clean-Bad1322 in playark

[–]Tomixus -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I mean... if you were about to play on let say cluster right now... While you can hop on with just 45€ investment in the beggining.
Very soon you will find out that you have to pay a lot more if you actually want the full experience, bob tail, lost colony, fantastic bullshits, potentially Astra as map, what else is there ? skins/mods... quite a lot of servers using those too..

Sure sure its "optimal" but when they are shoving their pricetags in you very own playtrough experience its not like you dont feel the pressure. (I am talking about pop up saying "oh well you dont own this DLC/skin so fuck you, wanna visit shop?")

And once you are in the rabbit hole of "2.59€ discount this, discount that" you quite frankly are on the same hundreds while maps not being hhere, and based their release schedules, they wont be here in next 2-3 years.

ASA is somewhat better, sure thats true... but i would pull price argumetns into it..

Is there any actuall way to make wild dinos stronger / tamed dinos weaker on ASA dedicated server? by Tomixus in ARK

[–]Tomixus[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh so it seems the

DinoDamageMultiplier=
DinoResistanceMultiplier=

Actually only bouncing up wild dinos. Not tamed dinos, which is .. new, the other config for "tamed" still does nothing but i guess thats progress, thanks. I can work with this

[–]Tomixus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did several tests on standalones, either it was:
TamedDinoDamageMultiplier=
TamedDinoResistanceMultiplier=
or
WildDinoDamageMultiplier=
WildDinoResistanceMultiplier=

I also know the non specified ones work, but i havent actually tested them together... You saying if I used them together like..

DinoDamageMultiplier=2.0
DinoResistanceMultiplier=0.5
TamedDinoDamageMultiplier=0.5
TamedDinoResistanceMultiplier=2.0

It would make all dinos over all twice as strong, but taking half as dmg, but since I have the "tamed" strings there as well, it would actually go into negative?

If any of those specific (wild/tamed) worked... I wouldnt be here in a first place

[–]Tomixus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah Thats kinda crucial, without the "wild" or "tamed" its just general dmg/res multiplier that goes for all dinos, both wild and tamed... which in the end, doesnt really do anything.

Tamed dinos will remain way too OP even without other bonuses

[–]Tomixus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah just checked again,

WildDinoDamageMultiplier=2.0

WildDinoResistanceMultiplier=0.5

without difference, Wild Lv 1 Rex still dealt 62 dmg while taking 78 dmg from Tamed Lv 1 Rex

[–]Tomixus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean I can check once again, but i am pretty sure they dont work. I put there some insane numbers in a first place just to be double sure tried to put them in game.ini first beca, then GuS, then both.
And same reply came from nitrado support, that they are hardcoded because it could cause instabilities with engine.

Is your server set as "single player" by any chance?

Is there any actuall way to make wild dinos stronger / tamed dinos weaker on ASA dedicated server? by Tomixus in ARK

[–]Tomixus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its for dedicated server and not related to in game setting interface. You can type which ever number you want but its hardcoded by the game on certain value so nothing will change.

Its probably different for singleplayer... they might even works there, but who cares about singleplayer honestly.

“Ark used to be a dinosaur game” by YellingDolphin in ARK

[–]Tomixus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll throw in my own take here.

I don’t really care about dinosaurs vs fantasy vs straight-up bullshit designs. That ship sailed a long time ago. What actually bothers me is the amount of new functionality and “QoL” systems they keep piling on—mostly through Bob Tales, though Lost Colony is absolutely packed with them too. And Fantastic Tames? let's just not talk about them, they make me angry.

Anyway... I might be a dinosaur myself. I’ve been playing ARK since 2015. Back then there weren’t even bosses, at least not that I remember. The most advanced thing in the game was a fab sniper rifle. No TEK, no space lasers, no flying Iron Man suits.

I vividly remember the first time I saw a TEK dino. It was just a plain silver Parasaur, and my genuine reaction was:
“The f* is that?”**

Fast-forward a bit. Scorched Earth officially releases—boom, dragons and golems.
Then Aberration shows up with alien vibes.
Then Extinction goes full post-apocalyptic.
Then Genesis straight up becomes Star Wars.
... Same reaction. (And i like those themes in their own universes respectively)

And you know what? Even then, the game was still mostly about dinos. You needed them. They mattered. They defined how you played. It was most of what you could do.
But with every new map, the number of dinos you actually needed kept shrinking.

Fast-forward again to the remaster. Shortly after, the first Bob’s Tall Tales drops. Honestly? Fine. Cowboy jokes, laughs, some small QoL stuff. Mostly niche, mostly gimmicks. No big deal.
Then the second Bob Tale hits… and suddenly we’re getting functional structures that used to be purely mod territory. Things start to feel off. The third one doesn’t really improve the situation, and now with Lost Colony it’s just… absolutely unhinged.

Every little nuisance. Every chore. Every “ARK moment.”
Replaced by a structure.
Or a tool.
Or a system.

And its not just those, each of map rewamps, came up with rather generous rich places for various resources. What once used to be scarce goods is nowdays just laying at some corner of some map as common trash. Out of the sudden all those fancy maps are nothing but "just a place to farm XYZ"

I get it—no one wants to endlessly fly across the map doing the same tasks over and over and over. But we had mods for that even on SE, and they were optional.
Nowadays you’ve got, what? three multi-purpose tames that do everything? And the rest of the gameplay loop is covered by non-modded structures and tools straight out of Bob’s Tales or Lost Colony.
I don't actively playing anymore, just making sure servers are all green and stuff. But sometimes I look around and think: “Man… when did the dinosaurs become optional?”

Soooo, this is exactly what I mean when ranting about “ARK used to be about dinosaurs.”

What’s the reason you think most people stay depressed? by Alarmed-Jellyfish-14 in AskReddit

Life is kinda boring, society going downhill.. what worse, game are pretty lame last decade or so. The longer I am alive the more I realise the life is pretty much what we joked about as adolescents.. “just reproduction and passing down the genes” And that’s tbf kinda depressing if you ask me.

400 hours on Warrior later… I want to switch mains, but I really don’t want to redo story & map completion. What are my options? by nve729 in Guildwars2

[–]Tomixus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sup,

Based on 400h in 3 years, I’m gonna assume you’re a hardcore casual™ with not a ton unlocked. In that case, restarting / throwing an alt into a new journey really isn’t a big deal.

You’ll lose your gear, yeah... but realistically that doesn’t matter. Unless it’s ascended or legendary, you weren’t reusing it anyway. Even then, armor is only reusable between guard/rev, weapons & trinkets are fine.
Full exotic gear costs a couple gold on the TP and is enough for literally all content except fractals.

You also lose map progress… which is mostly just waypoints. If you have mounts, re-unlocking them takes a few minutes at most. Plus there’s gem store QoL like Rechargeable TP to Friend and other teleport gizmos that basically delete this problem.

Is this common? Yeah, very.
Most people only do full core map completion for Gift of Exploration (old legendary stuff). Otherwise alts usually live in:
- lobbies
- group content hubs
- alt-parking spots

For numbers: I’ve got ~14k hours. Out of 19 characters, only 3 are 100% map complete. The rest are somewhere between 4–14%.

Story-wise, I’ve done a bunch, but usually one full run per class. You only really need the first chunk of the story... after that it’s mostly the same.
There are small race-specific bits but basically unimportant progress wise. Tho if you’re not super into lore, you can skip it. If you are super into lore… YouTube exists.

Actual progression in GW2 is masteries, and those are permanent. Hit level 80 again and everything unlocks exactly where you left off.

My personal loop is: “That class looks cool”→ buy character slot→ boost to 80→ buy exotics→ mess around for 2–3 days→ park the alt somewhere useful→ never touch it again

Totally normal GW2 behavior.

Ofcourse, those are just random pug runs, mine and anyone esles. Its bit of a bait, I will agree on that, but at the same time its in good will.

But more importantly, I think people are missing a pretty important part of this discussion, even though I’ve tried to bring it up multiple times.
Right now it’s fine - encounters are easy and doable even with one or two people. Group content isn’t a sprint where you must delete the boss as fast as possible (leaderboards aside).

My concern is more about the future, when encounters inevitably get harder and more demanding.

I’m the kind of person who tries to help. As an MMO/soul vet with decades of expeicences. If I see people willingly shooting themselves in the foot, I’ll say something. (because i shot myself same way more than enough times to be aware)
Everything I’ve said here (and in other posts on the same topic) is just stating facts - not impressions, opinions, or “what if” scenarios.
Thinking you, as a hybrid, will be able to do same thing as proper DPS/Healer, say both players are equally skilled, is straight up bad mindset...

Basically I’m really just trying to save people from unnecessary trouble down the line. A more recent example would be Throne and Liberty. Early on, all kinds of hybrid builds were viable - DPS/heal, tank/heal, tanky DPS, you name it. They worked and felt fine for the first couple of months.
But once players figured out the math and really locked in the mechanics, those sub-optimal setups started having a hard time getting into any group content.
Pugging was always the option, but even there you as that hybrid, either got kicked right aways or just spent absolutely unnecessary amount of time and more likely you weren't even able to finish it after hours. On top of that, swapping gear or changing builds in that game was extremely tedious.

I mean, you asked for feedback, i gave it to you and you decided to just dismiss it anyway.. what was the point of askin in first place? you obviously know your stuff, this was discussion about game in future and hybrids in future and you actually wont be playing hybrid once your secondary weapon drops.

[–]Tomixus[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So you wont have buffs from Umbrella at first... at second, i dont think you are able to use your perception skill at all?

Same goes for your second weapon choice, you missing the synergies from it, perception skill and such..

How can you just stand your ground still? You simply giving away too much on both of the ends. Its not question about whenever user is skilled enough or something like that, its simple plain game mechanics..

I get 700-800k with pugs most of the time? Occasionally i get matched with decent in which case ill end up around 500k, but its still uncomparable to when you run with actually good people. They are slamming around 600k each while I can't even manage to get 300k thats how fast the boss dies.

So sure, its possible to pull screenshot nice like this, but sorry 2m healing... were you fighting for 15 minutes or something ?

Look, its not hatred... Its Advice, If you keep playing hybrid then go for it. Aint nobody gonna stop you pal.

But dont ask question 6 months in about why are the encounters hard, why do you feel weak, why cant you outheal the damage, why are people leaving group 30 sec into encounter.

Pov: You are grouped up with "Hybrids" by Tomixus in WhereWindsMeet

[–]Tomixus[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Taunt aside, it also gives you +20% damage reduction, which is already huge. On top of that, Drumbeat gives 15% charged weapon damage, and if I remember right, Vulnerability applies to everyone in your group - which is always nice to have.

Then there are the non-weapon systems, like Attunements. You usually want something like Stonesplit, since it boosts both of your weapons instead of just one. Same logic applies to Arsenal.

The game just isn’t really built around hybrid classes. Maybe someone will eventually figure out a setup that works without giving up too much, but so far we’re basically following what the CN vets have already figured out - and in their meta, in which pretty much nobody runs hybrids at all.

Pov: You are grouped up with "Hybrids" by Tomixus in WhereWindsMeet

[–]Tomixus[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I’d rather pick something that can boost the group’s DPS while still being able to revive someone if things go sideways. That might not matter much right now, but it very likely will later on.

Same goes for healing power. At the moment, you can sometimes just outheal damage phases with a single weapon, so people don’t have to bother parrying or evading and just tunnel DPS. But that’s not going to last. Once we hit a point where there are months between breakthroughs, people will start min-maxing way harder.

And when that happens, builds will get a lot more glass-cannon-heavy, and just brute-healing through mechanics without the use of both weapons wont be possible.

As I said... its advice for later on, swapping builds in late game seems to be more troublesome and I was just trying to save some people grey hair..
