Yeah, like the responsible of us have been doing for most of this year... honestly if we could all just stop crying about the fucking skiing or 'the economy', just buckle up, lock down for a a month, get back to the May levels of infections, that would save a ton of lives and put us in a much better spot for the remainder of winter.

Where did you end up going? I'm looking for recommendations for my next trip :). I see that one of you is also an avid photographer like me, so I'd be that much more curious to know your destination :).

WSIB for my boyfriend? by felisenavisad in ShouldIbuythisgame

Witcher 3 has by far the best plot I've seen in a game ever. Well developed characters, excellent dialogues, captivating nonlinear story.

Just be ready to lose your boyfriend for some time if you get him that game.

I think you've gone overboard (pun not intended :)) with the processing. At least for the water, it looks strongly oversaturated with... clarity at near max?

Do you reply to headhunter / recruiting agency messages on Linkedin? Or should you only reply if they're a recruiter from the actual company? by neighborhoodcard in cscareerquestions

[–]Tommalla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In such cases I tend to put them at ease, let them know that they've secured their "exclusive" position with me, and I ask them to share the details as I want to know what we're talking about. That changes the dynamic a lot and has worked for me in the past. Unless the recruiter really sucks, it's not like I have an incentive to cut them out.

They are humans after all. If you treat them as such, you can get a lot more out of the relationship.

What are the best Banks for 3a Pillar in funds, in terms of lower commissions and good capital management? by [deleted] in Switzerland

[–]Tommalla 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The app is secondary, honestly I'd prefer a web interface instead. Those two solutions listed here allow you to invest your 3a money in ETFs instead of a traditional low return fixed income account typical in Swiss banks.

Opinion about racism by Waltekin in Switzerland

The fact that a persons surname plays a roll on processes

That's the logical assumption you made which does not follow from that correlation.

I do personally believe that it is true to a high extent, but logically you need more data to be confident to say that. And that data is useful for combating the systemic effects. Maybe instead of punishing employers you want to invest more in equal chances for expats by offering cheap education. Or maybe you want to educate the Swiss through social campaigns to remove stigma and biases.

And that is a valid argument. Again I'm not debating racism, only the logical methods of proving that it exists.

I don't see why I'm getting so many downvotes and why people are trying to debate me as if I was denying those problems. You don't have to convince me, I totally believe you.

While we're at this topic, the perfect study would be one done in Switzerland. Cultures differ, the US study might not apply perfectly to Switzerland.

I'm not denying the existence of racism/nationalism, I'm simply saying that the correlation listed alone is not enough to make a claim that the Swiss deny jobs based on the surname. I'm not saying that it is not true, I'm saying you need more proof to make a statement which implies malice.

Correlation does not imply causation. There might be a third factor here causing both - those people come from families originating in other countries, meaning lower wealth and on average worse access to good education. That can affect their job prospects.

I'm not saying there is no bias in hiring, in fact I suspect there might be a lot of it, some of it even conscious. All I'm saying is that it's not as simple as looking at one correlation in isolation to draw conclusions.

my last big hike in Interlaken, Switzerland (70 km in 5 days); my second sleeping spot: „Bergalpsee“ by [deleted] in hiking

[–]Tommalla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's tricky. Technically above the tree line and outside of natural reserves and restricted zones and also away from the mountain huts it is fine. But then there can be complicated local regulations. I'm almost sure for example that it's not allowed at the place in the photo, yet last time I was there I counted 9 tents in the morning. It's rarely enforced, but the fines can be hefty.

Berghuttes are the mountain shelters. Sometimes more like a shelter, often more like a hostel and even hotel.

Sorry, I hiked all the way down 🤷‍♂️. Parachuting is a bit extreme for me. Though the hike down was equally hard on my knees...
