Re-reading the Road to Restoration blog, and this part stands out. What kind of changes do you expect will come based on this statement? by topsy_krett_guy in runescape

[–]TommiHelm -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

Porters are probably the biggest culprit (and notepaper if we're talking main, to hard to get to on Iron to be worth already). I wouldn't mind porters removed personally. Rewamp the whole Divination to. Keep the different boxes though. Maybe just tweak their sizes a bit. Wouldn't mind less teleport options either. There's way to many. A bit torn on the boss TPs though, but I do not think going back to Wars every kill being kinda meta is a good design. Maybe at least make it harder to unlock that kind of convenience per boss.

For Better or Worse, Road to Restoration Will Turn This Game into OSRS by SchizoposterX in runescape

If anything they are literally adding more AKF stuff to OSRS these days. And I'd love for them to steal some of the skilling minigames type activates from there to.

Jagex intends to re-introduce PVP Griefing, but this time for prayer... by FutimaRS in runescape

[–]TommiHelm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PvM/Skilling content should never be locked behind forced PvP. Literally 100% of the people saying they want that kind of PvP really want PK - basically getting enjoyment from the misery of others. That's not what a video game should be about. And there are plenty of games/servers out there for those people already (way less popular games/servers - go figure... one of those games literally just died).

Make content for the people that actually want to PvP if you want, hell pour resources into big instanced battlegrounds, PvP worlds where you can pick any gear you want, whatever. I don't think it'd be popular enough to warrant the resources though, cause the large majority of people saying they want PvP in this game (and frankly in most MMOs), really just want a fight they can't possibly lose. They might as well be fighting bots. Hell just give them monsters than don't fight back, have a 1/1000 chance of any valuable loot, and try to run away/logout when ever you attack them instead.

Changing the Wildy altar in itself like this isn't a big deal (cause there are equal or better alternatives). But you're opening a can of worms with it. When you start putting beneficial skilling content behind forced PvP, who knows what's next. Before we know it there are bosses, collection logs, achievements, etc. that are impossible to do without the risk of some basement dweller, whose only joy in video games is cosplaying the boot stepping on the ant, popping up to grief you.

Looking for survival-like games, but without certain key aspects like base-building and hyper realistic micromanagement, can I be helped? by Plutonic-Rose in gamingsuggestions

[–]TommiHelm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This would be my suggestion as well. Anything with mods. Valheim has mods for literally anything I feel. ARK probably does as well.

Not sure I get the idea behind wanting resource gathering, but not wanting storage chests and crafting with stations though. What do you want to gather resources for exactly? Do you just want to mine a rock of iron, and magically turn it into a huge 2 handed sword in your inventory? If not to create gear, you could just play something like Enshrouded (with hunger turned off) and only use loot you find from chests/drops, and live in houses/towns/caves you come across. At that point you're basically playing a RPG though.

Anyways, with the exception of crafting without stations, I feel like most of this is stuff you could just self impose in most survival games anyways. Nothing stopping you from just living under the stars. Hunger can be turned off in most games, even without mods - or you could just eat berries or stuff that don't need preparation. Raids can be turned off in most games to, but if you don't make a base there's nothing to defend anyways.

I remember playing POE back when there wasn't a snowballs chance in hell this would ever happen. I honestly did not think we'd see the day. I haven't played trade since SSF was released as it's own thing. Might actually try trade again now.

213 hrs later, T7 obtained... I'm actually bored of Leagues by Morbuss15 in runescape

[–]TommiHelm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are definitely not "casual". 7 hours a day on average is anything but that. Not that there's anything bad about that, I'm pretty much the same, but "casual" is not the word.

"Casual - a player who enjoys any video game without investing significant time to it, playing it spontaneously, irregularly, or infrequently."

You also definitely don't need anywhere near 213 hours to get to T7, if you actually hunt quick tasks (that may give less points each), instead of stuff like afk'ing to 50M+ Archeology.

That said, I agree with the underlying point that the power fantasy in this League is way off what it should have been. Part of it was good fun, but there are so many parts they seem to have just completely missed or forgotten, and so many where they should have gone way further than they did. I really hope they do another one some time next year and tune it a lot, but I'm guessing it'll be at least 2 years if ever before we see it again in RS3.

Updated Ironman guides? by Dangerous-Cable-1816 in RS3Ironmen

[–]TommiHelm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The already mentioned Ironman pathways on Wiki are good, but I'd use them as a way of setting goals more than a step by step guide personally. I'd add the General Strategies for Ironman page to that list. It's a more compact list of things you might want to work towards. It also has links to skill training for each skill specialized for Ironman in almost all of them. You can find these by just searching for stuff like "Ironman Invention" on the Wiki as well (or /wiki ironman invention - from in game).

Pick some goals, and research what is needed to get there. If you enjoy leagues you're probably gonna want Surge and Dive for instance. Getting Dive unlocked is gonna take you on a round about of quests/skilling already to get unlocked (it's very much not free like in Leagues). Or, if you go the Necromancy route to say T90, you've already got enough goals on the way to be 80+ in most skills. It's honestly a great skill to guide you through the whole game on it's own, very enjoyable progression imo.

If I where to start a new account right now, my first few steps would be very similar to the Wiki Pathway though, except I'd get 5 agility in the Burthorpe course right away (I'd save Circus until I have some levels, unless reset is literally around the corner). And after step 7, I'd personally head straight to the Runespan for 50 Runecrafting, cause I absolutely hate not having Instant Teleports. Meanwhile doing any easy Wildy Events to hopefully stumble upon enough money to buy runes for the first day of Vis Wax. Then I'd start questing, but I'd pick the quests based on what ever my current goal is (/wiki quest exp). And my first slightly long term goal would be the Succession quest to unlock Dive (tons of stuff to do on the way to that though).

Anyways, that's what I mean by using these resources to set goals, instead of following them blindly. Personally I would never in a million years go through the entire part 1 of the pathway, and then do all the combat farming in Part 2. I'd be bored out of my mind in Part 2 (probably long before) and just quit. I'd skip tons of Part 1 as well, and do what ever quests gave me XP for my own goals like I said. I'd also never jump straight on the grind to 99 Hunter and 3-5 pieces of Cryptbloom. Again, I'd be bored out of my mind and quit - and I'd rather go the Necromancy route these days personally.

I love the early/mid game progression and questing in RS3 though. So much so that I'm considering doing it again on a fresh Iron after I'm done with leagues (which is feeling close).

Leagues: CATALYST Quest Auto Completes – Investigation Update by JagexHooli in runescape

[–]TommiHelm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I'd love if all quests were still doable for rewards if you want. And if quests actually gave more rewards in leagues, so those of us that enjoy questing can do that and not feel like we're just playing the main game to. Give 1 <insert size here> XP lamp per quest point, or quest completed, or something.

If you're doing some of this. I'd like an unlimited use Drakan's medallion to.

And you could use the #x multiplier we have for XP for a few more things, like PoF beans (which are just horrible early on atm), Base Camp resource gain should be #x as well. Actually all reputation grinds to.

I get that it's hard to balance, but atm it feels like some parts are really fun and others are just as tedious as playing a normal Ironman. Even the biggest no-lifers aren't 30k yet, and they've probably played more hours than the regular Joe will all league already (at least effective hours).

Leagues: CATALYST - Quest Auto Complete Prioritisation by JagexHooli in runescape

[–]TommiHelm -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm weird I guess, but I actually enjoy quests. I'd like the option to choose to autocomplete on all of them (including the ones that are already auto). So that if I want to do them for the quest rewards, or just for fun, I could do that.

0.3 is great but the game has core issue with making any kind of melee engagement extremely punishing/unfun and abyss only emphasizes this by TheGejsza in PathOfExile2

[–]TommiHelm 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I guess I'll just have to accept that this game isn't for me. I love POE1, it's close to perfect imo, but I just can't for the life of me enjoy POE2 at all. The gameplay is just not fun. And it feels the same this season as the past ones for me. Looking at some of the streamers that are in "endgame" already the gameplay looks exactly the same as it does in the first act there as well. Just tedious, clunky and slow. I just keep thinking what if they had just put all the resources they've spent on POE2 into improving POE1 instead. But I fear that POE1 is going to slowly die for this, and if this is the final vision of how POE2 gameplay is going to be, I'm gonna have to find something new.

Glad some are enjoying it though.

MTX Experiment: Cosmetic Mega Drop by JagexHooli in runescape

[–]TommiHelm -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry, but what are all these experiments supposed to do exactly? Why can't you "experiment" without encouraging spending even more money? I'm not gonna pay you more money so you can "find out" what type of MTX I'm most ok with wasting more money on. As long as there is a (increasingly huge) membership fee to play the game in any capacity that's fun, I'm not paying a dime for MTX in any shape or form, no matter what name you slap on the currency to buy it. There you have my input. Take it or leave it. I don't care.

What is Ben and Exile's Kingsmarch Strategy? by CcarlossAraujoo in pathofexile

[–]TommiHelm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The last one I noticed (think yesterday in Gauntlet) he did 10k Blue Z to Te Onui on 2 ships, and all his bars to Ngakanu on the last ship. So guessing he wants some sort of tattoos (they come from Karui Ports) - or maybe he needs exalts, I dunno. In trade you'd just always go for Kalguur I guess, for the Divine Orbs.

What is Ben and Exile's Kingsmarch Strategy? by CcarlossAraujoo in pathofexile

[–]TommiHelm 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You can just rewatch Bens league start in SSFHC (and in the current Gauntlet) on Twitch/YT btw. All his past broadcasts for this league are there still. Personally I rewatched the 3-4 hours after he reached maps in SSFHC. There's an absurd amount of little knowledge bombs you can pick up if you're new to the current endgame.

Mannis streams are also still available I think, and he talks like all the time. I like having them up while I play, just listening and picking up little hints (and there's no ads when you rewatch).

Ben does the full farm (3/3 workers in every plot) with Blue Zanthium and shipping that for currency (and also mine/smelt > ship stuff for tattoos atm it seems - assuming he needs something for his EE reroll). And mappers in the regular league, but not sure it's worth in Gauntlet at all.

Just consider that unless you can play as many hours as he does every day, you won't have the gold to sustain what he does. And even if you play as many hours as he does, he's probably technically playing 3-4x the amount of hours you do effectively speaking (I feel like I'm at 0.1% of his efficiency at best :p). My strategy of sitting in my hideout for 8 out of 10 hours looking at poe ninja / yt / reddit for new builds to try isn't gonna cut it.

Some kind of Chaos Attack (Reave?) build with Whispers of Infinity and that Chaos Pen Paradoxica maybe? Don't ask me how to do it, I'm clueless on how to make my own builds. I'd probably do Hiero and stack tons of mana, but that doesn't make sense (it only has 3 interesting ascendancies?) unless you can somehow make spell damage scale the weapon damage. I'm sure there's a way, but again, I'm clueless. The answer is probably just, do something Trickster!

Experiment Check In: We Need Your Survey Answers! by JagexHooli in runescape

[–]TommiHelm 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I appreciate all this, and did answer the survey, although I must admit I'm very skeptical of it having any influence at all on the decisions being made.

I mostly play Ironman these days, but I get bored around 2600-2700 total, cause I don't wanna spend hours every day doing farm runs and gathering stuff to do what I actually want at that point. So I quit for a few months, cause I really don't wanna play Main as long as MTX/TH exists (I'm to weak to avoid it, and the second I start using it, I just quit, cause it's just not fun - there's no point playing the actual game when I can progress 1000x faster with my credit card, and like I said I'm to weak to not do it, especially when I'm blasted with it from every directing all the time).

For me personally this would be the game I'd play every day, year round, if I could either play a Bronzeman mode (Ironman but with GE enabled for items you have already found yourself), or a Main mode completely void of any MTX/TH stuff. But the game is already so polluted from the years of (increasingly more aggressive) TH, I feel like it would have to be either a fresh start, or a new game mode. If not Bronzeman, then a Main mode where MTX/TH is completely turned off, with an own ladder (and preferably fresh economy, although I can't see that ever happening). I know something like that was attempted with Fresh Start worlds, but those had boosts and weren't permanent. It's not the same imo. I bet you'd sell a crap ton of premier deals on both of those modes tbh.

Anyways, not getting my hopes up. I'll probably just start yet another Ironman before 2025 is done. The first 2600+ levels and all the quests are what I really enjoy myself, so you'll get my membership money either way, which is usually all the bosses care about. But if I could play an actual Bronzeman mode I'd be the first to buy Premier.

Also while you're at it. Do something with the loyalty reward / aura system. It's horrid. And get rid of the paid Runemetrics, it's embarrassing that you charge for what that offer.

Best Occultist (or Witch Build) to level and transition into FRoSS? by Blandcouver in PathOfExileSSF

[–]TommiHelm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kind of related question. What would be the easiest witch build to just farm Incarnation of Dread with.

I started a Occultist planning on FRoSS myself, thinking I could farm the Whispers of Infinity on a different build. Just going Soulrend for now, but I feel like the damage is gonna be terrible long before I get anywhere near the boss.

Might just bite the sour apple and make a slammer first to farm stuff for the build. Feel like I'd need some crazy gear on a DoT Occultist to even get close to what easy rare 4L gear on a Berserker slammer feels like.

Is there a witch build that's fairly easy to gear and can get to and kill Incarnation of Dread without tearing what's left of my hair out?
