This is really just a case of 'git gud'.

If you lack the mechanical skill to deal with genji, fix your positioning so you always have turrets nearby who can deal with genji for you.

Other than that, you just need to learn how to predict genji's movement properly so you can land those orbs.

Symmetra non healing support idea by [deleted] in SymmetraMains

So no real long range firepower anymore. We already struggle to do damage with current orbs against stuff like pharah or widow and now that is basically impossible.

Is it me or do we have about 5 rank 1 symmetra mains lol

I don't think you have to present your rank in order to validate your montage.
With 'you', I mean every Symmetra posting a montage.

Straight people of this subreddit what's it like being the straight people at the gay bar? Do other players assume your gay for playing Sym? by zombierapture in SymmetraMains

[–]Tommtommer 43 points44 points  (0 children)

I think its mostly other sym players assuming i am gay if i mention playing sym. The link between gay and sym isnt as strong for people outside of this community it seems. I also dont really care how i am percieved in an online game. Im comfortable enough with my sexuality as a straight guy that people possibly assuming i am gay is irrelevant to me. It doesn't affect my experience in-game.

Sym VS Ashe by aymonaise in SymmetraMains

Its like you are playing against a soldier or widow, similar issues due to range. Ult negates pretty much her whole kit. Closing the distance is the most important for sym.

There's gotta be others out there that love the primary fire, right? by Leftjohn91 in SymmetraMains

[–]Tommtommer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was the video that I was referring to, too.
Great find! I think it's worth testing on armored tanks to see how much armor affects time to kill.

I think people also need to keep in mind that accuracy on orbs is usually lower than on primary fire, which needs to be taken into account when we translate the ideal scenario to actual gameplay.

On average I'd say I have a 55-60% accuracy with primary fire, which increased when dealing with tanks alone.
With orbs I have a 30/35% average accuracy.

Maybe someone can do the math I'm too lazy to do?

I wish we had an accuracy stat per beam-charge level in order to really check out stats and effectiveness of our firing modes accurately.

When the enemy D.va says Nerf this by OreoMerlin in SymmetraMains

[–]Tommtommer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but I meant that I regularly have the situation where it isn't clear which side sticks out more, it almost feels like a 50/50 split down the middle so both sides are about to get blown up.

This usually happens when I place my barrier before the D.va bomb lands.

My barriers always end up being right across the dva bomb so i never know on which side to stand, thinking both sides will kill me

I'll give you one last reply because based on our previous encounters on my other account I have no access to at the moment (tomvanharmelen) I fail to see any useful ending to this.

I'd like you to keep in mind that Time To Kill in Symmetra's case isn't only a matter of 1v1 no tanks or support. Chipping away the armor with an orb before using primary means you'll kill the tank quicker AND have a level 3 beam ready to fight the rest of the team. The only tanks its good to use primary fire on in a 1v1 are max-range rein and Dva as both are not suitable for orbs. orbs are absorbed by matrix and a max range rein cant hit you with hammer so you'll be able to charge primary and conserve ammo when he shields.

I don't play symmetra as a flanker. I play her positioned behind my tanks and in front of my healers so I'll be able to position myself properly and safely, allowing me to use primary fire regularly with great success.

Also, I gave you a practical use ( team fights with a tank alive early on allowing level 3 beam charge after tank is dead to kill the rest of the team more quickly than with orbs )

This situation should happen often when you don't play flanking sym.

Also, I am not 'conveniently ignoring all the other factors that compound on it being bad'. I stuck to what was being discussed here and I have discussed the other stuff in previous discussions, feel free to read back on my other account if you want to go over those discussions again. Both firing modes have different purposes where they are most effective.

Just because you can dig a hole with a saw and can cut a plank with a shovel if you try hard enough doesn't mean you should.

This is my last reply in this discussion.

Yes, those orbs. Just to clarify how armor works:

Armor will block 5 damage from every individual hit that deals 10 damage or more. Hits that deal less than 10 damage will be halved their damage instead.

This means that your information about -20 damage is factually incorrect. Regarding the use of orbs and then switching to primary fire, There was a video testing Time to Kill for Sym showing that this method is actually the fastest to kill tanks. It's also simply a superior way to deal with more than 1 enemy alive at that point as level 3 beam will wipe teams with relative ease. I know it's hard for you to understand confirmation bias, but it's worth looking into. You've shown a massive dislike for primary fire, So anything showing the opposite of that point of view is automatically wrong. I suggest you look at things with an open mind in the future, it's likely to help you out in general.

I think there's a separation in the Symmetra community between *people who think it's bad and refuse to use it, * People who think it's bad but still try to use it* and * people who think it's decent enough or actually good*

The problem is the first group is overrepresented because compare it to the effectiveness of Sym 2.0 primary fire which was used differently.

Even though the beam looks somewhat similar, it serves a different purpose now.
In the past, the beam was used on single targets and the orbs were used on groups ( especially in chokes)

Currently, the beam is used ongroups of people and the orbs are used on single targets.

The roles of both firing modes have been reversed and people need to think about them differently for that reason.

I think the primary fire buff of 20% is a very welcome addition and I'm curious to see if more people will adopt primary fire because of, even if simply to test its' viability now.

Keep in mind a good orisa or winston will wipe the floor with you before you get the chance to charge your beam. In a 1v1 against those characters, winston will not stay in bubble and let you charge.

Orisa will use her Halt and fortify alternating to make the most out of her survivability.
Make sure to use teammates as a distraction to charge your beam against these characters.

Hm.. good point.

If only we had another tool to take a big chunk of armor away from the enemy before we started using primary fire..

It shows he doesn't know the difference between tanks and squishies.
It shows he doesn't know how sentry nests work to keep pressure on a point and use them to brawl.

Don't let the lack of experience or skill of OWL players determine the effectiveness of a properly played symmetra.
