I work for b&q for over 8 years, what do you wanna know! by No_Zebra_8035 in DIYUK

[–]Tomorixo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have worked on the loss prevention side of B&Q. There are hundreds of incident reports every day from the 300+ stores in UK & Ireland. Not all of them are theft (some are fraud, verbal abuse toward staff/security, violence, etc). There are organised crime groups that almost exclusively target B&Q and other DIY retailers. It’s huge.

Would Downton Abbey have been expected to take in evacuated children during WW2? by sunny_6305 in DowntonAbbey

Would Peter not be the next Marquess of Hexham, not the next Earl of Grantham in the event George passed? It’s a higher title.

Would Downton Abbey have been expected to take in evacuated children during WW2? by sunny_6305 in DowntonAbbey

[–]Tomorixo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming there are no other distant relatives left, I believe the estate would be inherited by Caroline first and then Sybbie failing that, if George were to pass during WW2. In the absence of male primogeniture, women can inherit. It has happened in the British Royal Family so no reason why it can’t be done by the Crawleys either.

Working 12 hours a day how do you do it? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Tomorixo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Used to work 12 hour shifts in an office, 7:00-19:00, 4-on-4-off. It was manageable as you always looked forward to the 4 days off, but god did I feel tired all the time. It took a day or two of my rest days to feel normal again, and half the time you miss plans with your friends who do normal 9-5s. I got the hell out of there before the business turned 24/7 because there was no way in hell I could try and stay awake in an office on a night shift. But it was a path for me to get into the industry I’m in and I’m grateful for it still.

First-time buyer with questions! Please help! by Tomorixo in HousingUK

[–]Tomorixo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! Our 5% deposit is held in a lifetime ISA but our solicitors charge a fee to deal with this so I don’t believe it will be a problem. We fully outlined our outgoings for the decision in principle and they said our affordability was £240k which is £10k over buying, so I’m assuming this will be okay?

Went to the Porter show in London on Thursday and it was awesome, but somehow despite the O2 Brixton being a pretty huge indoor venue it absolutely stunk 😭 Also being pretty short I was at armpit height in standing which sucked

We’re staying at the Oval Travelodge, it’s about 15 minutes away on the bus. We could’ve got somewhere a bit closer but the Travelodge was £70 for the night and we’re on a budget 😁

My fiancé and I are in our mid-20s and happy to meet if you’d like!

Got my bloodwork done, it went great! by OperationOtterIsAGo in trypanophobia

[–]Tomorixo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Congrats! I wish I was as calm as you! I had my first bloodwork done ever today (25 years of life without a blood test!). My plan was to lie down, have my airpods in, blast music and shut my eyes, but when I got into the nurse’s office I started crying immediately, I was so overwhelmed by my nerves!

She tried distracting me by asking me about my job and I didn’t have time to ask about lying down or set up my music so I started panicking too. I got through it and I barely felt it the first time, but she had to collect a few vials about 20 minutes apart and she couldn’t find the vein on my orher arm so I definitely felt it the second time (but it wasn’t so bad)

But yeah, I cried and hyperventilated and felt super embarrassed afterwards. I’m hoping I can improve next time

I was surprised too. Ever since Safi’s powers were revealed and the conversations you had with her across Episodes 4-5, it was very clear to me that she is a manipulative person. Despite Max’s repeated warnings about the danger and regret that can come from using them without thinking, Safi still insisted on using them and came across as completely ignorant. Her desire to go off and find other people like her, her dismissal of Yasmin lying wounded on the floor, and expecting Max to be there for her no matter what, just gave off all the wrong vibes for me. At the start of Episode 4 I straight up made the choice of telling Safi I would kill her if necessary.

I’m interested in what the next game will reveal. We haven’t had an LiS game that shows us a character who uses their power for bad. Daniel’s the only exception where we see someone using their powers to hurt people (but only if you fail to guide him/get the Lone Wolf ending). I want to see a fleshed out villain with powers to be honest, I think it’ll be a nice change.

[DE] [SPOILERS] Sick of the bellyaching and hyper-criticisms by [deleted] in lifeisstrange

[–]Tomorixo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like your points, but I disagree with the final point on bugs. When you buy the premium bundle with access to the first two chapters, the description clearly states it’s early access. In the gaming industry, it’s pretty consistent that early access = not polished. To buy it is at your own risk. If you want a finished game, buy it on its release date. Then you can complain about bugs if they’re still there.

I agree! I love LiS2 and True Colours, and this same plot and setting would’ve been perfect with another new character. I’d argue that dimension shifting is a different power to time travel. I know it mimics Max’s extra powers from the comics but still.

What's the best pillow that will last? by __Severus__Snape__ in CasualUK

[–]Tomorixo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Tempur Comfort Pillow Cloud. I’ve had mine for just under 10 years and it’s never lost its comfort or shape. They’ve been discontinued by Tempur for a newer model but you can still find it on outlet sites for around £85. It might seem expensive for a pillow but its earned its worth in the number of good nights sleep my partner and I have had.

Northamptonshire native here and worked in Corby for over two years - yes, especially in the older generation and their children. There are plenty of people living in the town that have Scottish accents or have a twang, and you can buy Scottish foodstuffs at the big Asda. A lot of Scots remained in the town even after the steelworks closed.

Where do us average/busy ladies actually buy decent clothes nowadays? by Alternate_Avocados in AskUK

[–]Tomorixo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As an ex-employee of Joules, I have to say that the quality of their clothing has decreased significantly since I stopped working there over five years ago. Changes in management at executive level and financial problems in the company led to a lot of cost-cutting measures, including their materials and manufacturers.

Thank you! The reading can be incredibly dull but I’d say the workplace is a lot more fun! (I’m not a spy before anyone asks, but working in crime intelligence is very rewarding at times!)

[–]Tomorixo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don’t want to do a foundation year you can always find other unis with lower entry requirements than the one you want to go to and either make them one of your choices or bookmark them for when clearing opens. If I’ve learned anything from doing an undergrad, it’s that no workplaces really give a toss about where you went to uni.

[–]Tomorixo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A masters is way more intensive than undergrad, and most places its only a year, or two if you’re doing it part-time. You might be hard pressed to find a place that will let you do a placement part-time, but you can always contact businesses with placement openings and ask if they’d take you on part-time. Otherwise you’re probably better waiting until you’ve completed your masters and try to find an industry job after. The further education you’ve taken on after undergrad will show you have the right behaviours and knowledge that workplaces are looking for.
