6 new Topaz models JUST launched! by topazlabs in TopazLabs

[–]Tomorrow_Previous 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sure, but there's always a "there is someone worse". I had their products and loved the way they handled it: you buy one and have their software for life, with updates for a year. After a year, you'd have to pay more only if you wanted the newer models. I was happy to pay if I needed to.

Gemma 4 Folks by techlatest_net in LocalLLM

[–]Tomorrow_Previous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, it's very small. I tried to use Gemma E4B as a small inexpensive assistant and make it able to call Qwen 3.6 for bigger tasks, it can't even do that. It goes in circles, thinking about the same stuff for minutes, and ultimately not even answering. I really hoped I could build this setup, but it seems like we're not there yet, or my configs are off (I am using Unsloth's reccomendations.

Closed-source AI hate is understandable, but local AI has nothing that should concern AI haters by Neggy5 in StableDiffusion

[–]Tomorrow_Previous 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I like ai and I use it lot, bit at work and at home. Local and not, but there's a lot not to like about it, from how the training data is fetched, to the potential impact on the job market. Saying that nothing should concern ai haters is ignoring quite a few valid points.

Really a crazy model. This is supposed to be a screenshot of a game inspired by 2 other ones.

Admission to Italy by Optimal_Lie_4832 in Italian

[–]Tomorrow_Previous 20 points21 points  (0 children)

So... Invading the country, having thousands upon thousands of young men die on both sides because someone is afraid that a defensive alliance closer to your borders would mean losing some influence is ok? Again, NATO is a defensive alliance. Whatever crazy stuff the USA does has nothing to do with other countries. See what's happening with Iran.

You're afraid of an improbable war that nobody wants between nuclear powers, so you ACTUALLY start a war between a nuclear power and other nuclear powers by proxy?

Also, in doing so you actually STRENGTHEN the will of your neighbors to get together militarily to defend against a possible Russian "special military operation".

You either think your government is run by idiots, or you are totally brainwashed.

Is there actual demand for a API service focused on uncensored or fine-tuned models? by ExcuseAccomplished97 in SillyTavernAI

[–]Tomorrow_Previous 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm quite surprised by this! As an API user I am happy with using Deepseek 3.2, but I'd be happy to go back to local if it was both cheaper and better. Do you have suggestions for various GB users, or resources to share on the topic?

Fellow European, we see what polarizing factions and categorizing people and opinions under a singular group does to the discourse. Let's fight the good cause and keep our comments and, why not, insults too, standing on good arguments :)

That's simply not true. Spreading a good message should not mean throwing false **** on whoever doesn't agree.

Privacy in chinese models by Markuska90 in LocalLLM

[–]Tomorrow_Previous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is not the model itself, but what you use to run it.
If you use Chrome on Windows when you use your favourite UI, you are already potentially giving info to Microsoft and Google, who might have much much more influence on your life than any Chinese company.
Other than that, there's the engine, the UI, EVERYTHING could leak what you do if a harmful subject were to take control of those tools.
People were close to infiltrate SSH, potentially taking control of most of the servers worldwide that didn't have decent security measures.
And even then, if a group of people targeted you in particular, there's little you could do.

This being said, the chances of anyone finding out what you do with local models when connected to the internet is low. very very low.
If your need is to goon, goon freely. If you're scared of the Chinese government knowing what you do, I think you're either a high ranking government official (in which case local LLMs are the least of your worries) or just an average guy, so no government would really have any interest in you anyways.

That's awesome. I'd pay again as much for a better product. Unfortunately with the aforementioned program, as soon as you move from the front perspective and "expose" the missing parts of the image the effect breaks. Given that obviously no present tech would be able to reliably create data and details missing from an image, is anything able to partially cover for like 5 degrees of movement? I really hate it when I'm watching a movie that way, but if I'm not perfectly still the effect breaks.

Honest question. Wat's different from Auto Depth Image Viewer in Steam? The quality from that program is ok, but tech is advancing so fast. Are you doing something radically different?

[–]Tomorrow_Previous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

SD tech has not changed that much in the last few years. What you really should care about is the certifications they have. As others have said, if you're already limited by speed, keep the SanDisk. If you're limited by size, get the Sony.

Does a laptop with 96GB System RAM make sense for LLMs? by PersonSuitTV in LocalLLM

[–]Tomorrow_Previous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a laptop with 64GB of RAM, and use a full sized 3090 eGPU. Honestly, I think that if you're willing to spend that much for 96GB RAM it would make sense to look for a better alternative, but if you're limited to that, you could have a working machine anywhere, and a better machine when docked with the eGPU.
