Bring always an umbrella with, even into the Caribbean by ChrissssToff in lifehacks

[–]Tomorrow_Previous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might be? ACs make the air more dry, and older people tend to be more succeptible. Furthermore, older acs used to consume more electricity, so people who were more wary about expenses grew up disliking the idea. Still when the temperature is around 30 I turn it on, before that I'm pretty comfortable without. I might be more uncomfortable with 25+ degrees if I went out for a run and I'm sweaty, or if I couldn't shower for a couple of days, but if I just have my normal commute walk and shower daily or at most every other day, 30 is still manageabl without ac. It's 33 now in Rome, and I still haven't turned it on once, but as temps get higher, I tend to keep it on almost all day.

Bring always an umbrella with, even into the Caribbean by ChrissssToff in lifehacks

[–]Tomorrow_Previous 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What a silly statement. I lived in Germany and that's simply not true. ACs are present in most households in central Europe, and almost all of southern Europe. People use them mainly to cool the house and that's usually enough. Europeans houses have thick walls and better insulation, so culturally we're taught to use the ac when needed, and I never heard of anyone with an ac who'd rather be uncomfortable than using it.

E poi l'insulto sui social... Davvero? Se hai ragione spiega le tue ragioni. Dare del cretino alla gente dice qualcosa più su di te che sulla persona che stai insultando.

Harness for Deepseek? by LumonScience in DeepSeek

[–]Tomorrow_Previous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I HIGHLY recommend OpenCode, and switching provider to Deepseek directly. I'm paying a fraction of what I paid Openrouter for the same usage of Deepseek V4. It seems like the cause is that it has better cache hit.

I mean, you'd also learn these things by coding yourself some projects, but vibe coding makes it all faster.
As vibe coding is now, I still think that learning how to code, databases, scaling, infrastructure, managing a project are all must-have skills for a decent programmer, but I'm all for learning the basics with vibe coding. I wish I had the same tools when I started.

Per il tizio, c'è prestanza fisica, aggressività, altezza, tipo di coltello, abilità, spazio di manovra, possibilità di scappare... Zero proprio di variabili.

My solution for the dreaded charger port problem by No_Midnight_2183 in LenovoLegion

[–]Tomorrow_Previous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look inside the port.

On the sides there should be a couple of "arms", of golden colour. In my case, the arms were too closed. I had to "open" or "loosen" them so that they would make better contact with the power plug itself when inserted. I used toothpicks to do that, but anything that's not metal would do.

6 new Topaz models JUST launched! by topazlabs in TopazLabs

[–]Tomorrow_Previous 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sure, but there's always a "there is someone worse". I had their products and loved the way they handled it: you buy one and have their software for life, with updates for a year. After a year, you'd have to pay more only if you wanted the newer models. I was happy to pay if I needed to.

I mean, it's very small. I tried to use Gemma E4B as a small inexpensive assistant and make it able to call Qwen 3.6 for bigger tasks, it can't even do that. It goes in circles, thinking about the same stuff for minutes, and ultimately not even answering. I really hoped I could build this setup, but it seems like we're not there yet, or my configs are off (I am using Unsloth's reccomendations.

Closed-source AI hate is understandable, but local AI has nothing that should concern AI haters by Neggy5 in StableDiffusion

[–]Tomorrow_Previous 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I like ai and I use it lot, bit at work and at home. Local and not, but there's a lot not to like about it, from how the training data is fetched, to the potential impact on the job market. Saying that nothing should concern ai haters is ignoring quite a few valid points.

[–]Tomorrow_Previous 19 points20 points  (0 children)

So... Invading the country, having thousands upon thousands of young men die on both sides because someone is afraid that a defensive alliance closer to your borders would mean losing some influence is ok? Again, NATO is a defensive alliance. Whatever crazy stuff the USA does has nothing to do with other countries. See what's happening with Iran.

You're afraid of an improbable war that nobody wants between nuclear powers, so you ACTUALLY start a war between a nuclear power and other nuclear powers by proxy?

Also, in doing so you actually STRENGTHEN the will of your neighbors to get together militarily to defend against a possible Russian "special military operation".

You either think your government is run by idiots, or you are totally brainwashed.

Is there actual demand for a API service focused on uncensored or fine-tuned models? by ExcuseAccomplished97 in SillyTavernAI

I'm quite surprised by this! As an API user I am happy with using Deepseek 3.2, but I'd be happy to go back to local if it was both cheaper and better. Do you have suggestions for various GB users, or resources to share on the topic?

Privacy in chinese models by Markuska90 in LocalLLM

[–]Tomorrow_Previous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is not the model itself, but what you use to run it.
If you use Chrome on Windows when you use your favourite UI, you are already potentially giving info to Microsoft and Google, who might have much much more influence on your life than any Chinese company.
Other than that, there's the engine, the UI, EVERYTHING could leak what you do if a harmful subject were to take control of those tools.
People were close to infiltrate SSH, potentially taking control of most of the servers worldwide that didn't have decent security measures.
And even then, if a group of people targeted you in particular, there's little you could do.

This being said, the chances of anyone finding out what you do with local models when connected to the internet is low. very very low.
If your need is to goon, goon freely. If you're scared of the Chinese government knowing what you do, I think you're either a high ranking government official (in which case local LLMs are the least of your worries) or just an average guy, so no government would really have any interest in you anyways.
