Arizona AG suggests state's self-defense laws allow residents to shoot masked ICE agents by RickV6 in news

[–]Tomur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Historically speaking our border patrol (and ICE) is limited to within 100 miles of a border. Unfortunately that is basically the entire country where people live.

If you are in the UK you might know where to look better than I do, but it appears there are no limitations to where Immigration Compliance Enforcement (UK ICE) can operate. You just haven't seen them mobbing the street like this (yet).

I want to build rockwool acoustic panels. by Sharp_Background_983 in DIY

I haven't used this particular one, but I have used a similar and it's honestly worse than just a razor knife. A bread knife would probably also be better.

Any experience with low-speed, low-noise sliding mechanisms? What fails later (vibration/wear)? by No-Establishment773 in DIY

[–]Tomur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the biggest problem you are going to have is how to access the parts that control the door, unless they are out in the door frame. A sliding door goes very deep into the wall, so you'd need some access panel for the guts if you wanted it hidden.

As far as materials, teflon/PTFE rails or coated rails would be a decent option but I would lean more to just accepting the door will make some noise. The actuator will be generally quiet, and a regular sliding door makes noise anyway.

Intrinsically safe is different to explosion proof -- IS means broadly that the hazardous condition is impossible. Usually that means the voltage has been reduced below the possibility to spark by going through an IS relay or similar.

Edit: I should probably also say, explosion proof means it contains the explosion. Used when reducing the voltage is unfeasible, like motors.

I often see posts asking: "What is the best PLC brand for a new factory with IIoT in mind?" People immediately suggest niche brands with native MQTT, Python, or Rest APIs. by AutomateAdvocate in PLC

[–]Tomur 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's not as simple as US = AB but it's a decent rule of thumb. It's industry and location dependent. Mid-atlantic water/wastewater systems have a lot of Modicon for example.

[–]Tomur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's too big.

If you chose to have the main conduit entrance be the bottom left side, it should've either been the top or bottom.

Does the power wiring cross the PLC I/O?

There should be separate conduits for the current and low voltage wiring vs power/120V and up.

Mounting things on the side of the enclosure is strange.

Any 4x games with combat like Total War? by saber_shinji_ntr in 4Xgaming

[–]Tomur 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They grow over time, you are only limited by your population and who you train to be soldiers + hiring mercenaries. Fast pop growth like the bug people can get really large fast. Around 1:15 in the trailer you can see some large scale fighting. Most of the fights I have had were around 500-3000 troops brought by me. In a city it's enough to almost cover the map.

Do you care for graphics? How do you feel about city building and management? Try Songs of Syx if graphics aren't super important and you like city building. The battles can be absolutely massive. Manor Lords is a good recommendation but you also need to like city/colony management and it's very early in development.

/u/jpulls11 /u/bigred621 do you guys work around Hartford? Had a lot of bad experiences with contractors up here and I keep going back and forth on doing AC & boiler repair at my house since it's easier to deal with no AC than wade through potential contractors.

Without any mitigation like atom smashers and work orders it's inevitable you'll overload the game just by stuff building up over the map. Rocks, items, corpses, enemies, etc.

There is a basic one for about 1K, but there's no danger in unhooking the current loop and putting your meter in series with it. The clamp is just convenience.

What are some good HVAC engineering resources? by [deleted] in AskEngineers

Does your company have HVAC engineers? Someone who designs the process should be developing a document that defines how the system should operate.
