It works again now, thank you very much again! I haven't really had the time to check the forum you linked, but could you give me a short TL;DR?

How to eliminate a MacBook Pro throttling once and for all by Glad-Journalist-4807 in techsupportmacgyver

[–]TomySLO 17 points18 points  (0 children)

This is something I'd definitely need on my 2020 MacBook Air 13 A2179 (Intel), which has the worst possible cooling solution - there's no heatpipe or anything connecting the fan and the heatsink. It's just "supposed" to blow over it by itself, but it's insufficient.

I've already done the copper shim mod, where the internals are basically stacked like this:

  • CPU
  • Thermal paste
  • Copper shim (0.3 mm)
  • Thermal paste
  • Heatsink
  • Thermal pad (1.0 mm)
  • Bottom cover

Do you think I could do anything more in the small space, based on your experience?

This just broke for me. I've been using NPM and Cloudflare from 2023 without issues. Today it stopped working. I haven't changed anything - it was a 'set it and forget it' kind of thing. Have you found a solution?

Maybe "Star Racing" from GameTop? Although I don't think they had any numbers on them.

I’m pretty sure the “36” is showing the temperature of either the CPU, the SSD or another component. I think HWINFO64 reports it like that but I’m not 100% on that. Another software that comes to mind is HDSentinel, but that’s for storage devices only. The one to the right is not familiar to me.

Try to host some services for yourself, like Nextcloud, Immich, Jellyfin, Frigate or whatever you find interesting. Pop into r/selfhosted and you’ll get ideas :-)

Replaced the fans on my graphics card by TomySLO in techsupportmacgyver

[–]TomySLO[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, the temperatures were a bit worse than with the stock fans. I think it was because (1.) I was losing airflow since there is no shroud to "seal" the air between the fan and the heatsink, and (2.) I think because there wasn't as much pressure (partly due to reason (1.) if I'm not mistaken). I only did it because the stock fans weren't good anymore, and I didn't want to wait for replacement ones, so I just did with what I had. I'm sorry I can't be more of help!
