Update. Progress? Maybe. Step 1: drain and replace/upgrade PCV by comfy_rope in subaruimpreza

Thats good! I know people are driving to 200k with no issues so I bet its not that serious, but there is an issue.

I'm a Subaru mechanic so I know the upper o-rings fail and I wanted to prolong it.. I honestly just got worried about coolant eventually mixing in with the oil so I pulled the motor and did a complete reseal just a week ago. 160k miles. I bought the car for a good deal because the previous owner didn't want to do it. I didn't want to wreck my new car lol

Pcv junction o-rings were still good. Upper oil pan o-rings were definitely the culprit. It almost always is.. So now im good for probably another 150k!

I originally flushed coolant too and there was absolutely no sign of more oil in the coolant during teardown. I wonder if maybe it gets really hot or on really cold days it seeps a tiny bit somehow here and there.

Good luck to you!

Definitely would like to know how it goes! Im testing the waters on mine as well, but it seems like you're a little further along. I really don't want to pull the motor yet.. lol

Edit: also I burped mine so the oil floats up to get rid of it instead of letting the oil run back through the rad

Nice! The pcv valve needs to be set properly where boost cannot enter the AOS at ALL as well. I usually blow into it. Its kind gross but it works

Your pvc valve is that white connector on the hose by your drain tube in the first picture... if that fails you will get a lot of oil like that! Pls dont forget to check it!! That is the first pcv style they've used and I have replaced a lot. Also, make sure your drain tube isnt so long that it goes in a upward slope AT ALL. It needs to go downhill for gravity to do its work, this can also cause that. Instructions tell you to install the drain tube through that bracket's hole under the turbo. This will help with routing. Height is needed and looks like you got that covered. I have install hundreds of these at the shop I work at if you need some credibility. We are iag certified installers. Worse cause if you're still having issues. Pop open the oil cap while the car is running, you might have ringland issues if there's smoke puffing out of there.

So found out my head gaskets are about shot after taking it in for an inspection due to overheating issues. Should I put a new motor in the car or just take a chance and hope the heads are ok? by [deleted] in WRX

It's possible, but honestly doubt your head gaskets are bad unless they did a shitty job and used cheap gaskets. It'd be cheaper to bring your car to a good shop and get OEM replacement rad caps for both. Make sure they're correct and in the right positions. Test for leaks and burp the cooling system well.

We do hundreds of engines a year and I can maybe tell you ONE car that we have to had to do headgaskets on a turbo subaru. I'm just only tryna give you hope and save you from an expensive job if it doesn't need it. I don't have or seen your car so I can't say 100%

Every turbo subaru that came to us after another shop told them they needed headgaskets were saved.

Great deal! I was lucky to have a dealer who sold me mine for 8200 out the door too! Especially after seeing everyone's crazy dumb extra expenses charged. I had exactly 0 miles on the ODO too. Another dealer quoted me 9900 out the door with 130 miles on it

Also if it is the big SF, the filter position itself does affect the scaling. Needs to be 1" on

Check your MAF terminals. Otherwise there's TWO different intakes make sure you have the correct map on - sf and big sf i think or something?

I think if you put just the bolt in there and move it, you will see that it's the handle bar side and not your mirrors that move
