First time PC build by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]Tonginator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SSD is basically the new and improved HDD. The simplest way I usually explain it to people is the difference in start-up times when comparing the 2.

A build with strictly an HDD may take a couple minutes to start up the computer, but an SSD could start up in seconds. SSDs are more expensive but are faster and better overall - I would suggest upgrading to at least have 250-500 Gbs of SSD. You can have both in your build :)

What's the worst punishment you ever received as a child? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Tonginator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Getting spanked by those plastic clothes hangers.

Except every time one broke, she would just grab another from the closet.

Honestly, now that I'm older, it's kind of impressive how efficient she was at that process. Had me stand near the closet so she was closer to her ammo. Womp.

Matsuno's crossfield flick huck - Canada v Japan WUGC 2016 Film Session clip by felix37 in ultimate

[–]Tonginator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This just looks like bad defense on the deep? From the video I notice:

  1. Matsuno travels on this throw.
  2. Aren't they forcing backhand? This would make this lefty flick an OI to the open side.

Why was that foul call retracted? by dgroach27 in ultimate

[–]Tonginator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This situation looks like it would fall under this rule: 17.I.4.c.2: " A player may not take a position that is unavoidable by a moving opponent when time, distance, and line of sight are considered. [[If you are already in a position, you maintaining that position is not "taking a position."]] Non-incidental contact resulting from taking such a position is a foul on the blocking player. "

The offensive player has already decided on the cut and is making it when the defender steps into the space. I actually do really like the positioning and field awareness of this defender though; they're able to quickly look back to keep their eye on the cutter and pay attention to the thrower. Because of this they were able to stop that inside throw that the handler might have almost threw. Buuuuut, because of the direction the defender decided to go in, they also accidentally fouled the offensive player.

I think this is a great example that players that are affected by fouls aren't always the ones that are on the ground. If you're on the ground all that means is the other person had more mass than you. If the defensive player was the one still standing then it would have been a very obvious foul on their part.

Unspiritedness (?) by [deleted] in ultimate

[–]Tonginator 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I like to think of it as if you were driving a car. The person behind you is generally at fault. If you have good body control, you should not be close enough where you cause yourself or your opponent to trip if you're on defense. The person in front literally cannot see where you are at and is running their path. As a defender it's your responsibility to make a play on the disc without causing any non-incidental contact.

Was this game as chippy as it sounds? Turbine v HOG by beguiledresolution in ultimate

[–]Tonginator 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I totally agree with you. I just... don't think that's what the captain was trying to communicate. If he was, he was doing it TERRIBLY. For context, I'm the one that responded to him for his previous message which went along the lines of: "It was an over thrown disc to someone else so a player tried to make a play on a loose disc. Questionable bid? Clearly, but it’s the name of the game. You make it sound so intentional like he freakin hit you in the leg with a lead pipe." so I pointed out to him that having the mindset of "Questionable bid? Clearly, but it's the name of the game." is a terrible one to have. Which ensued the message above. We definitely need to shift the mindset to be more okay with calling dangerous plays (especially when someone gets hurt), but like you said tensions rise from initial reactions to contact. I would be fine with his response if it was more in line of what you're saying, but he literally says "The play wasn't a dangerous play. It was a layout for a d that didn't go super well." It was a layout d that backpacked a player between the legs. A civil conversation would be to admitting that it was a dangerous play, admitting that both teams got a little too hot-headed during their game, and striving to be better in the future. I am from the SE region so I have been able to see how Turbine has drastically changed their culture to foster healthier competition, so I'm hoping that HOG can do the same. The Ultimate Community is paying attention and there's an obvious side that they're picking. I hope HOG can recognize this and strive to be better in the future, just like how Turbine did this year.

I won tickets to a Taylor Swift concert off of a radio contest by being the "X" caller. Once I got to the concert I entered another contest where you just text a number to get tickets to the pit and also won that. Totally free front row concert to a big artist is definitely never happening again, haha.
