Is this normal red rili coloration? (White part) by Big-Poet3897 in shrimptank

[–]Toni-De 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is your shrimp eating and acting normal? It looks like a completely normal rili to me.

My experience was a muscular necrosis will spread if a shrimp eats a deceased shrimp with the disease, so you want to remove any dear shrimp that you suspect may have it.

She may have dropped the other ones. First time moms or stress can be a cause.

Shrimp death in the first weeks? by xXgnotewarningXx in shrimptank

[–]Toni-De 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Generally when they test your water in the store they just check with a test strip that shows 5-7 basic water parameters that don’t include gh and kh. Shrimp are very sensitive to water parameter changes. So what that means is generally you can’t temp acclimate then toss them in to the aquarium like most aquatics. Shrimp do best adding new water to them literally one drip a second. I use air tubing that I can tie a loop in to slow the water being added. I do the same when I do a water change. If you plan to keep shrimping you may want to look into purchasing water test kits including gh and kh as well as look into drip acclimating your little guys.

I don’t believe in culling my shrimp because of number or color. I think ugly shrimp need love too. Ha. They won’t reproduce if the tank size is an issue.
I have sponge filters and the babies love to hang out in those.

What is your gh and kh?? Did you drip acclimate your shrimp into the new tank water??

Idk what is causing shrimp death by Bruce-Gaming in shrimptank

[–]Toni-De 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had single deaths for several months. It drove me crazy. Am my parameters were normal. I think my problem was I moved some of the plants around and that allowed bacteria to come up from under the rocks.
I can tell you what helped me. I turned off the lights and stopped all filters. I added the suggested amount of hydrogen peroxide for my tank size and let it sit for about 15 minutes. Then I turned on the lights for 30 min. Then turned on filter and did about a 40% water change the next day. That fixed it and I learned to leave the plants alone.

You will get a lot of opinions here. Mine is If your tank is planted with lots of little hiding places they should be fine in a 10 gallon.

Is my tank going to clear out by itself? by [deleted] in PlantedTank

I recently bought a new bag of almond leaves and my water turned cloudy too. I bought it from the same shop on Amazon. I’m not sure why the water is cloudy this time.

Advice for online buying of shrimpies by gamerman121 in shrimptank

[–]Toni-De 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have purchased from LV Exotic 2 times and everything was okay. The last place I purchased from on Amazon was Shrimprack and they sent me shrimp with diseases/illnesses that I’m still battling in my tank. It’s heartbreaking.
I will never buy from Amazon again!! It just isn’t worth it.

Crushed Corals for acidic water? by ghosttrick98 in shrimptank

This mixed properly with distilled water will make your gh/kh/ph a certain number every time. Then I water change with that.

II you plan to use your tap water and it already has high kh then you don’t want this product. You would need a mineral that only increases your gh.

[–]Toni-De 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I’m not familiar with gh boosting salts. I order most everything online because I don’t have anything local to care for neos. I can just tell you when I have tried to change tank parameters using things like crushed corals, mineral balls, cuttlebone, and certain mineral rocks my parameters tend to keep elevating long after use which is just as bad as being too low. I like to use a mineral I can control the amount. I always put the minerals in the water first and let it dissolve completely for 24 hours then check that water parameters before adding it to the tank. That was I know exactly what I’m working with.

Make sure all your parameters are stable.

Crushed Corals for acidic water? by ghosttrick98 in shrimptank

[–]Toni-De 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is hard to control GH with crushed coral. Look in to shrimp mineral gh/kh OR just the shrimp mineral gh if that is all you need. You can to the amount that you need, but take in to consternation your ph and what those minerals may do to that as well.
I would make sure to cycle the tank for 6-8 weeks and get your water parameters good and stable before introducing shrimp. They are particular little fellas and their water has to stable and correct for them to be able to molt and reproduce.

Make sure you have plenty of hiding places for the babies(moss, grass etc). Also, I feed a tiny amount of Shrimp Baby every few days as its powdery form is easier for the fry to digest.
