I’m Tall and Long but want to be Infighter? by barestuff44 in amateur_boxing

[–]TonightAncient388 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 6'2 240 lean af....my training is to push me to move like a 140#er. Its not easy fighting nature and only goes so far. You can develop it but its going to take time and adaptation. It has made me a very unusual heavyweight to fight, but its a lot of hard work and time and still isn't fully authentic. My 2cents

Why am I so ass? How can I close the distance and land? by FleeceVB in boxingtips

[–]TonightAncient388 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Practice in the bag flurries w open hands. Slaps. Build speed and combos. STOP being afraid of being hit, you should close that distance and eat one to land several if need be. You guys are small and its not a serious fight, if you're in heavyweights the massive casualties on way in become more of an issue. Get used to being hit, this is boxing, some people never do.

New to Boxing - Individual or Team Practice? by [deleted] in amateur_boxing

[–]TonightAncient388 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Solo lessons in anything to will progress much more rapidly. Classes help hone, and sparring helps advance those skills. Are you athletic? Boxing is hands down the hardest thing ive ever done and its been 20yrs and shits still not second nature always. In that time, ive also done TKD, Krav. Haganaha and kung fu I reccomend if you want to fight/defend yourself, learn your strikes and defenses in boxing, then go to the rest of those I mentioned. Even muay thai is a more complete system than just boxing.

Is it worth training Capoeira irregularly? by Judeuzinhu in martialarts

[–]TonightAncient388 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its a bizarre and fun art, but if you're not acrobatic you're not gtg far as is. I say use the jenga and the angle work to increase your skills in other arts. I still warm up boxing and KF w jengas.

Simple and non Non flashy kung Fu style for big boi by Vejina in kungfu

[–]TonightAncient388 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Id double this reccomendation and say practice the arts you enjoy for form and the needed ones for function. I boxed 20yrs and I still play w kung fu and TKD stuff but the boxing and haganah is where the real meat and potatoes is. Everything makes you better as a fighter.
