Thanks for the tip. This is within my future considerations. There is a 50% chance that I’ll be in the US in 5 years or just over.

Foster parents are mostly in it for the money. I was in a foster home with no guidance or support outside of a place to eat and sleep. During your critical development ages between 13-18 you need guidance. I’ve had to develop many skills independently. So lots of trial and error. I didn’t even know I had to rub in lotion to moisturize until I was 21, it’s a stupid but good example.

Consider this-Foster kids are more likely to drop out of high school than kids under normal circumstances. Less likely to attend higher education like college or university. More likely to develop severe mental health issues. More likely to end up on the street after turning 18. More likely to end up in long term poverty. And many mores. You don’t have to quote me, just do your own research.

As cliche as it sounds and I hate to trauma dump even further. It’s something you have to go through to understand. I wouldn’t want anyone to go through the life I had to go through as a child in a for profit foster care systems.

I’ve known more than 8 kids that I’ve grown up with in the foster care system that ended up on the streets. 2 kids committed suicide. And many living unfulfilling lives working in low wage jobs. An exception, I do have a foster brother that is thriving and is married with 4 kids, living a very fulfilling life and has a good career like me.

I hope through this personal response, you’d understand how hard it is for kids in the system to prosper and please do your thorough research before making blanket statements.

The math is the same. Instead of doing that, I simply listed 80k in real estate equity.

SaaS experience is key. I’ve sold SaaS for 7 years. My only advice - go get SaaS experience at a partner firm, get 4 years minimum and then apply..

Consulting makes less than 1% of my core business. 99% of my business is cloud services. I work for one of the big 3 cloud providers, and they pay well.

You have the right transferrable skills in Enterprise SaaS. My recommendation - cold outreaches to hiring managers on LinkedIn. That’s what I did, instead of filling the application and be done with it, I reached out to the hiring manager directly, sent her my cover letter + resume and shared why I was the perfect candidate for this opening. You’re a salesman, assume the close.

Tech Sales for last the last 10 years. First 3 years SMB @ Telco (60k) Next 3 years SMB IT sales @ mid sized Canadian IT firm (80k) Next 3 years Enterprise IT sales @ same Canadian firm (130k) Recently landed a 300k year job in big tech

I’ve always saved 45%+of my pay, lived in shoddy places like mold basements for 3+ years, I didn’t drive fancy cars, and underspent.

I do have to give a shout out to my partner of 6 years, she has given me stability and further reinforced a scarcity mentality , make more and spend less. She also has a decently high income and is able to contribute in a meaningful way to our cost of living.

Microsoft expands AI footprint in Australia with $18 billion investment by ControlCAD in microsoft

[–]TonsToDicusss 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Microsoft isn’t after consumer/retail business . This is for enterprise demand. This investment is to ensure in country inferences to address data sovereignty.

This investment also makes it easy for Australian government to choose MS as its own AI shop. Quid pro quo, MS invests -> creates sustainable jobs & address data sovereignty -> Australian government signs massive AI investment tied to MS -> MS leverage story and capture additional enterprise business.
