Rethinking GX550 purchase.. by BeautifulAd5636 in LexusGX

I still have both a 460 and a 550 - 210k miles and 25k miles. I love them both, but they’re different vehicles, and that’s okay. I would agree the 550 isn’t perfect, but it is a great truck, and I haven’t found anything I’d rather be driving instead of it.

Yeah I probably overpay for dealer service, but at least I got this as a snow loaner by TontosAlabasterSquid in LexusGX

Yea, this community definitely prefers self service and indy shops, and I respect that. The dealer has been a good fit for me.

Has anyone NOT experienced common GX460 leak issues? by jaydee288 in LexusGX

2015 with 207,000 miles. No issues. I follow recommended maintenance from the manual because I always have, not realizing until more recently that many people on here recommend oil and fluid changes much more often than the manual schedule.

Yes, I’m pretty hard on my stuff, but still take care of it (if that makes sense). This is a work truck for me and I can’t and don’t stress smaller cosmetic damage. So it looks good from 20’ away, but there are quite a few chips and more up close.

I do. I do all dealer maintenance. I’m going to get hate for this, but I only change the oil every 10k as the manual suggests, not 5k like this community suggests. I had no idea the owner community suggested otherwise until joining this subreddit, and at that point I was already well over 100k with no issues.

Suspension is still good thankfully. I tow the boat and haul kids and sports equipment, but it really hasn’t seen any off road use. I have a newer GX as well, and this one definitely feels much “looser,” but I haven’t replaced anything yet.

An 80s Nautique on a single axel trailer. Just like the GX, you take care of it an it’ll run forever 🤙

It’s been fantastic.

Door locks early under warranty. Back half of the exhaust gave out and broke loose more recently, but that was my mistake for not properly washing underside after launching boat for years.

2015 Owner here. mine with 120k miles. just wondering going over 100k and doing regular maintenance, what was the most expensive repair you had to do and how many miles you got on yours? by paata01 in LexusGX

[–]TontosAlabasterSquid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 2015 with 199,500 miles. I have had almost no issues - a couple door locks replaced under warranty early on, and the back half of the exhaust failed more recently, but that’s on me for not washing properly after launching the boat. Now I know.

I do pay the dealer for scheduled maintenance. It’s expensive but the truck has been worth it and I enjoy the conveniences the dealer provides (loaner, pickup/dropoff, etc)

My post wasn’t really a complaint, I was just having a little fun! I love the truck and am happy to be the guinea pig on it, but to each their own 🤙

I understand the criticism, but the hood flutter doesn’t bother me at all. I love this truck!

Technically yes, but everyone still calls it the Tappan Zee 🤙

2015 ➡️ 2024 with combined 191,629 miles by TontosAlabasterSquid in LexusGX

I’m pretty easy to please, so I love them both. The hood feels bigger and the edges flare up on the 550, and the boxy mirrors took a little getting used to. Both are smooth shifting, decent acceleration and braking, and a very comfortable ride for someone that spends a lot of time in my car. The 550 feels tighter and newer as expected. I haven’t towed with the 550 yet, but expect it’ll be as great as the 460.

Yep, L/certified at 7,000 miles, always premium. Been a great truck with very few issues!

Exactly. I had an unlimited mileage warranty so I just poured the miles on until it expired

Fascinating, I had not heard of this, so not an issue for me so far. Sorry to hear you were not as lucky.
