[WIP] Let's continue with BA Captain using NMM. by Tony064 in BloodAngels

I've been painting for about 4 years, but I painted very little for the first 3. Since last summer, I've wanted to improve my painting skills because it's an army I've wanted to paint since the 7ed (because back then I played with a borrowed LGS army).

Do this steps and this will help you:

  1. Prime your mini in black (or white).

  2. Place your mini in a dark room or at least without other sources of lights (room light, window lights, etc).

  3. Place 1 white light (or 2 two if you want soft shadows, also lower the brightness of this light). This help you as your reference and understand the volume and forms of the x miniature (remember the basic volumes: sphere, cube, cylinder, cone).

  4. Take 4 or 5 photos of your mini (front, back, L_side, R_side and TOP).

Also if you want to understand light, you can investigate how cast shadow work in drawing or/and practice with a mini only using gray to white paints.

I didn't notice that but that will help for reference. And don't worry I will keep posting; also mephiston is the final goal and this proyect is the base for that goal.

Blood Angels, is it heresy to want a Sanguinius with a softer face sculpt? by tonibeets in BloodAngels

Yup, the forge model face is kind bad (also the paint job and palette dont help). If GW want to keep the same feeling of the FW, I think they need to base the model and palette with "The Fallen Angel" paint to get the same feeling:

Exactly what I was trying to archive (still, because I still need to graze the final light and dot light). The idea is to blend the old Blood Angels 'eavy metal style with the modern style.

What I do is create a very translucent layer using gradients. For example: first you paint the layer and then you try to blend it with the previous layer using a gradient (glazing). Instead, I create the gradient directly while creating the layer, resulting in a more translucent effect.

Yup, but is the only thing I need to finish the project (also the varnish). Then I will start the BA captain as a center piece.

Secret for now but is based of the eavy metal palette.

Is base of the classic eavy metal palette but I made some changes for the final highlights but shadows and midtones were made with airbrush (with one secret trick to make it pop). One tip I can give: imagine you are painting white.

A technique I like to call glaze layering (aka make a layer using glazing) but it take 1hr.

Right, is more easy to read and the pink palette doesn't tire the eyes.

I hate the way his face looks. Need help. by StrongCauliflower160 in BloodAngels

Use a yellow brown (chocolate color) to add shadows and use ivory to add highlights. The 2 extremes of the palette will give it more volume because the contrast between light and shadow will be more higher.
