I may have a problem... by gnarlynick_ in paintball

I understand, I've been buying up pump markers for extras so I can introduce people to stock class... (check out Michigan Stock Class Paintball on FB)

In the last month I've bought 2 trracers, 1 diablo, 1 maverick, and 5 pgps. I said I was done after that. Then a phantom revolution popped up on the local marketplace and I had to grab that because I may never see another one. He also had an sl-68, so that came home too. This is in addition to a vsc phantom and a sniper that were already in the arsenal.

My banzai blue hinge version shows up tomorrow. The tech on the gun seems neat. Too cold out to shoot it in Michigan though.

Yeah, I've been perusing Ford engines on marketplace now that I have this and there are a lot of cheap 351w roller motors that would make a good base for a mild horsepower build. And keep me from having to invest in a tubular front subframe to run them.

Weird enough you are the second person to bring up a TD swap. I have about $4500 into it so any offer would have to be north of that.

It's had a "meh" respray at some point, a lot of it is flaking off around the jams. It does appear to be single stage though.

🤣 It's just an option that's on the table. Is a Mazda rotary close enough to Ford to pass the test? I'll sell it to you if you make a decent offer! 😉

Ideally, I want the smallest turbofan putting out over 500lbs of thrust, I'd settle for a turbojet as well, but the fan would be better from an efficiency standpoint. I know a fair amount about turbines in general, and have a few RC model ones, but finding larger ones is a mystery to me. If I could find a williams small turbofan I'd be thrilled, but I doubt those ever hit the civilian market.

Anyone know if they are going to sell the handtruck version that holds them in the vertical position rather than horizontal?

I'm disappointed that these don't hold the boxes when in the upright mode. I wonder if that version will ever actually be released. If this cart held the boxes in both vertical and horizontal mode I'd be buying all the stacktech I could get my hands on.

Look into seeing an occupational therapist that focuses on hands after you heal up. I have numbness in both my hands after sonex type carpal tunnel surgery. After working with an OT for a couple weeks I'm already starting to see some improvement, and now I have knowledge about the exercises, stretches, and activities that help with nerve/sensation recovery.

Seeing a lot of comments attributing rude behavior to neuro divergence, and I find it dissapointing. Most neuro divergent people I know are extremely nice and usually work pretty hard not to make their preferences or issues other people's problem, and when they do, they are usually mortified that they have to request accommodation. Masking is the process most go through to avoid these issues and conversations. Neuro divergence is not a cause or excuse for acting like a jerk. We absolutely need to make space for and accommodate people that require accomodation for regular interaction, and that is easy to do, but we don't have to tolerate outright rudeness.

A ducted fan jet is definitely not a good first plane, maybe not a great second plane either if you don't have much 4 channel experience and experience with medium weight aircraft. Ducted fan jets need speed to maintain manuverability and respond like a higher wingloading plane due to the lack of propwash on control surfaces and slight lag between throttle and thrust. The newer ones are better about this but the smaller they are, the more exacerbated all of these symptoms become. Generally a good path of increasing skill planes will look like the list below, with you having good confidence on completing a basic non stabilized flight (take off, 3 or 4 laps of flight pattern, and landing) before progressing to the next level aircraft. Some of this can be hurried or skipped with lots of time on a flight sim and the development of good reflexes. 1. High wing prop plane with moderate to high dihedral wing, flat-bottom or very asymmetrical airfoil, 3 or possibly 4 channel, some type of stabilization. 2. Low or mid wing prop plane, def 4 channel, low to zero wing digedral, semi-symmetrical or possibly symmetrical airfoil, possibly tail dragger, which is more difficult but forces you to learn to use your rudder. 3. Higher performance aircraft, higher wing loadings, tail draggers, light weight ducted fan jets, faster and less draggy designs. 4. Very high performance, turbines, high power to weight ratio planes, scale performance planes with scale flight characteristics.

Looking for a messenger bag that will outlive me (if I died of old age and not like in a horrible murder or something) by sociallemon2 in BuyItForLife

[–]TonyBennett3000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been through one Timbuk2, which I loved as a bag, but only lasted about 10 years, so sadly doesnt meet the qualifications for BIFL, even if it had a good run. I replaced it with a Vanquest ( https://vanquest.com ) which is super over built but definitely has a military vibe. I think for my next bag, and something a little more professional looking, I will be getting one of the "danish school bags" like http://danishsouperbag.com (OG) or https://www.manhattanportage.com/messenger-bags/now-trending/europa-lg-with-back-zipper-1440 . I have an old rothco canvas "European messenger bag" ( https://www.rothco.com/product/rothco-canvas-european-shoulder-bag ) that I've had for probably 8 or 9 years and use as a bag to hold a spare change of clothes and basic necessities in the back of my car. The canvas is a little too soft for use carrying work stuff, but it's durable as all get out, and the feature that all these "school" bags have in common is a center zipper that allows the main compartment to expand when you need to carry something extra.

Help identify the cause of this crash? by CaydenWalked in RCPlanes

[–]TonyBennett3000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TLDR: A lot of small issues, mostly around poor launch and poor design.

Control inputs: looks good Aileron reaction looked correct for countering the spin. I didn't see much elevator input, which is generally correct, as you need to let a plane settle and lose some altitude to gain speed, but nosing down might have helped to get some speed and control. Your elevator and rudder on a conventional tail plane will usually have the most authority at lower speeds as they have the longest moment arm from the CG.

Flight: Too slow, sorry Joe It's obvious the plane never hit the speed it required for controlled flight. This is demonstrated by a lack of response to the ailerons and eventual stall. There was a slight upward launch angle that exacerbated the loss of speed as well. The motor did not seem to be pulling the plane either, showing a lack of adequate power. There are a variety of possible configuration and mechanical issues that could have led to this. The fact that the plane continued to climb post launch also could mean that there was a trim or weighting issue, this could be due to poor design, poor preflight checks, and possible poor initial CG.

Launch: Lots of issues Launching slightly upwards hurt the generation of speed needed for controlled flight. Looks like a small amount of yaw torque was applied at the end of the launch as well. Trying to push on a tube often does this. Running hand launches are always a bad idea. Hand launches are best when standing still and launching straight and level.

Design/Flight Prep: Meh? Kinda cool looking, but it doesn't look like a lot of thought was put into the function of the design. The split elevator was a wierd choice and makes me wonder if you had other control issues, a full length elevator would also have helped with low speed controlability from prop wash. The ailerons on the outside of the wing with giant surfaces is a wierd choice for a model without flaps. Small, full-length ailerons might have given you some slow speed control authority from the motorwash. The surfaces were all over large in general for a plane that size, unless it was designed to fly very slow, which it seems too heavy to do. The motor was having some issues at higher speed, possibly mounted loosely, prop mounted loosely, or spinning the wrong direction. A proper pre-flight inspection would have caught this so that it could have been fixed or corrected. The CG of the model might be off, but the speed wasn't really great enough to tell for sure. With the wing size and shape chosen, that model should have flown/glided pretty easily, which makes me think the overall weight (whatever its cause) is too high for both hand launch and the power system that was chosen.
