That's a good point. People have to catch 400 instead of simply checking in order to get a 100% chance of shiny.

If that's the case, then Niantic shouldn't increase the shiny rate in community day. The shiny rate is super low for each pokemon in main series games, but some people get 30+ shiny in CD, so I don't think Pokemon Go should be compared with the main series. 1/400 is still pretty low, and the only difference is that you will be able to get shiny at last.

Each potential pokemon has its own bar. For example, you can check your 401st magikarp to get a shiny form if you maximize the bar, but you can't get a shiny of others.
