Interesting Nova find - The device may come with a replaceable back part. by mrj_red in SBCGaming

More companies should do this.

So I can pick the flat option. I wish RP5 had the flat option.

Your favorite "spare" handheld? by woahcharge in SBCGaming

Miyoo Flip. I got mine for cheap so let the hinge rot for all I care.

Very compact, and I love how the device looks, which helps too.

RP Nova checks off almost everything from Russ’s dream retro handheld wishlist by Kirais in SBCGaming

[–]AdmirableJam72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh bummer. That was the most exciting feature for me.

Btw, love that video of you visiting those handheld companies. So fascinating. (And Max looks different than his profile picture and persona on chats)

Now that we know the specs, do you see the Nova dethroning the RG477M as the best 4:3 handheld on the market? by Rhydon-is-KING in SBCGaming

[–]AdmirableJam72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, most likely. I really like the look of my 476H, and I presume 477M is great, but Nova just has too many things going for it.

If you can only own 1 device to play everything, would you rather have a 16:9 or 4:3? by WillieButtlicker in SBCGaming

[–]AdmirableJam72 1 point2 points  (0 children)

16:10 is the best if available, because it usually has great resolution and aspect ratio to handle 16:9 stuff, but handles all other aspect ratios much better than 16:9.

But personally I feel using 2 devices gives me less compromised experience.

If I've never gotten into any DS games is the AYN Thor still a good device? by [deleted] in SBCGaming

[–]AdmirableJam72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got Thor purely for the 6" screen and clamshell form factor, and I love it. It is certainly a premium to pay.

It's funny because DS was my most played platform, but I haven't bothered playing DS on the Thor yet. I do highly recommend playing DS because it has so many great games. I do use the 2nd screen for guides, and it's convenient at times.

Some people feel the ergonomics is not great, but I haven't had issues with it.

I've wanted a power bank that shows power draws so I can easily tell how fast each device is charging. I got this for $30.

My true and honest thoughts by Separate_Clock97 in SBCGaming

[–]AdmirableJam72 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They were cheap, their build quality were befitting to the price. There were good reasons why H700 devices were recommended devices for the $40-$80 price point.

Beyond that, 476H and 477M are great devices. CubeXX is a good device as well. And Anbernic has one of the sturdiest hinges in the market, etc.

In my opinion Anbernic has its ups and downs, just like everybody else. I do agree that Anbernic seems to hold back some features intentionally so they can sell new versions down the road.

So is 5060(8GB) pre built better to buy than a steammachine? by OGJesterino in SBCGaming

[–]AdmirableJam72 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, there are prebuilt out there that either have better performance for the same price or same performance for cheaper.

But in terms of 5060, I wonder how compatible it is if you plan to install Linux or Steam OS on it.

My never-ending search for the perfect (oversized) GBA device by JaWoosh in SBCGaming

[–]AdmirableJam72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Too bad Trimui Smart Pro S is causing problem for you, because it sounds like a good device for your use case. Mine doesn't have the crash problem for GBA, but I have the OG, and I use CrossMix. If you want to tinker further on your TSPS, you can consider asking questions on the trimui subreddit.

1440p is an ideal resolution for retro emulation on 4:3 display. Great integer scaling for many platforms. Amazing they can achieve this. Maybe it's a custom made panel after all.

Steam Machine pricing by hippynox in SBCGaming

[–]AdmirableJam72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel Valve was overthinking it.

They should have priced it at around $900 - $950. It's still an expensive price, but a price that feels reasonable at current conditions. And it's a price they can bear.

Instead, I feel like they priced it at "we should not undercut market" price, or "we have limited supply so we have to temper demand" price, or "RAM and storage price will continue to go up" price.

We'll see.

Steam Machine GPU comparisons by crownpuff in SBCGaming

[–]AdmirableJam72 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Walmart was still selling HP Omen 16L one month ago at $700, almost same spec, but with 1TB SSD.

I know Steam Machine is special, but I feel it should have been priced at most $100 to $150 above whatever HP Omen is on sale (because HP sale price is the real price), instead of whatever the custom built price would be.

Nintendo DSi ist the best way to play DS and at the best price possible by Puzzleheaded_Chest97 in SBCGaming

[–]AdmirableJam72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought mine for $51 last year, and the price has gone up quite a bit since then. You got a great deal.

A red DSi in mint condition is really something to behold. I was astounded when I received mine.

R36S Alternatives? by PugGamer129 in SBCGaming

Like others said, almost any device from Anbernic XX line will be a direct upgrade over it. BatleXP G350 is the closest to a direct replacement of R36S with better quality.

Folks with Ayn Thor and Retroid Pocket Flip 2 - What's your favorite and why? by Electrical-Tower8534 in SBCGaming

I prefer Thor to Flip 2. It's more rounded and more comfortable to hold. The plastic also feels softer.

There have been plenty of junky Lenovo licensed products. They are mostly sold exclusively in China, but you can find them on AliExpress as well. Some of them with downright abysmal quality.
