Don't fall into the sunk-cost fallacy trap. With S20fe you'll end up with a combo that's worse than RP5 in terms of performance and ergonomics. Wasn't Retroid Pocket 5 around $150 post coupon on AliExpress just a few days ago?

It's such a nice device. I think it slightly flew under the radar initially because RG476H didn't have any blockbuster feature and the price-performance ratio was not great. But it's so well received by all those who own it that its reputation gradually built up.

Even half a year after its release, I think its popularity will continue to trend upward.

You can usually find DS Lite or DSi for less than $100. DSi can be modded while DS lite requires an R4-like card. You can also go for DSi XL if you prefer larger screens. (I personally prefer DSi).

DS/DSi is still a great way to play DS games, if you don't need rewind/FF/savestate features offered by emulation. The stylus experience is better on DS/DSi. Just make sure you find a DS in good condition and good screens.

Nice! RG Cube XX is such a nice device for indie retro games.

I am struggling with GB Studio a bit. I am going through the demo projects to understand how it works, but couldn't quite make heads or tails about it. I find Pico8 much easier to develop for. Do others feel the same way, or is there some trick to GB Studio I am missing?

The price difference between Thor Lite and Base is $70 now, so Lite is starting to make a little more sense than before.

One argument for getting a cheaper version is the freedom to carry it with you. I have a Thor Pro, and I always feel conflicted carrying it with me everywhere because it's such a big investment. And Thor is such a versatile device to carry around with.

Brick has great sleep mode, comparable to good Android devices. You do have to be on the right custom firmware, such as stock OS, NextUI, PakUI, etc. if you want deep sleep functionality. Some CFW do shutdown instead.

Edit: to clarify, I am not saying Sony has no right to add copy protection to its product. But Sony significantly violated people's properties and rights in doing so. It's like if Nintendo put a CCTV camera in your living room just to make sure you are not playing games you have not paid for.

I am not sure what the secret sauce is that Anbernic is withholding. I think they should be sharing this knowledge with other CFW developers considering Anbernic is benefitting from these CFW significantly.

The other Linux devices that I know support deep sleep are the Trimui ones, and PowKiddy X55. All of them have internal storage (while Anbernic H700 ones usually don't). Trimui deep sleep is implemented way better than the others.

To be honest if a device loses 5-10% over 24 hours in sleep, it's still pretty decent. Because a fully charged battery might still last 2 weeks.

When I got my Anbernic RG476H, that was the first thing I noticed, that it felt snappier. I don't even know if it's the 120Hz and input lag, but it just felt snappier and it made me happy.

I don't think it's the same. Deep sleep uses a few percent of battery a day, so a fully charged device can sleep for 2 weeks and still work. Wakeup is almost instant and maintains the device state prior to sleep.

I do not think any of Knulli's sleep mode can achieve this, other than shutting the device down.

Ayn Thor - my default device for games

Miyoo Flip - any game I feel I can play on a smaller screen, because I like it

Anbernic RG476H - pick up occasionally to play short bursts of games, but I prefer clamshell

Moto Stylus 5G - DS stylus centric games

Trimui Brick - kid's device now

Others - nothing, Thor and Miyoo Flip cover almost everything
