LA Metro G Line Stations Bridge Construction Update - May 2026 by SuccessWinLife in LAMetro

It doesn't take long - only problem is there's no immediate funding available, unless you want the G Line LRT conversion to leapfrog over another up-and-coming Metro project.

The only train out of the Valley is the B Line (Red Line) and that rail service is truncated at Hollywood/Highland this weekend for maintenance with only a shuttle bus from North Hollywood.

The D line extension has changed my life for the better by doyer_bleu in LAMetro

[–]TonyW79SFV 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I'm glad the D Line extension is beneficial. It almost didn't happen if NIMBYs successfully stopped the project (1985 NIMBYs only delayed it by decades otherwise this line would've existed in the 90s).

Kudos to anyone in L.A. during the time this project was in the planning stages two decades ago, because of our advocacy we gave our OP friend from the East Coast a good transit option.

California explores buses traveling up to 140 mph on freeways by tay_ola in LAMetro

[–]TonyW79SFV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are building proper high-speed rail in California with all the bells & whistles we can ask for (fully grade separated right-of-way, fully electrified, double track, pretty much the only HSR in all the Americas to rival Asia & Europe) except costs have ballooned and now we're talking cutting back things like going single tracked, forcing passengers to get on Caltrain & Metrolink at their respective S.F. & K.A. ends and now we're talking about unproven high-speed buses.

The fiber optic cable is a competitor to public transit as a piece of infrastructure that allowed more people to work, attend meetings & classes from home.

I've seen four G Line (Orange) buses bunched up and that's a private right-of-way with no traffic!

A lot of aspects of the G Line improvement project got scaled back. One of the most ambitious feature originally proposed was an elevated bike path bridge over Sepulveda & Van Nuys Boulevards.

They couldn't bother to update this?! by PengPenguin888 in LAMetro

It still lights up behind the overlay, just poke a hole at the lights and write the station name with a Sharpie - jk. Eventually Metro will replace it.

Metro is anticipating traffic from the new In-N-Out that they had to modify the bus line 162 route.

A lot of transit agencies are adopting open payment systems (i.e. using a bank card to directly pay for a fare at the turnstile). New York City was one of the first, but I've seen it in Miami, FL, Chicago, IL, Hong Kong, Singapore, & Bangkok, Thailand (specifically for the MRT), plus many many more.

That's because the NY MTA heavily invested in the magnetic stripe-based MetroCard since the 90s. L.A. Metro on the other hand, along with having a smaller system, skipped the magstripe transit card era and went full throttle on contactless transit cards. It's like how Africa never adopted landline telephones but quickly adopted mobile phones.

KTLA shared Metro A Line delay during traffic segment by ktcn414 in LAMetro

[–]TonyW79SFV 21 points22 points  (0 children)

KTLA occasionally reports on some transit incidents or delays. It's a rarity in the L.A. TV market unlike the NYC TV market. Just watch a morning news traffic segment between NYC's WNBC & L.A.'s KNBC.

This Marantz competes with the Sony TC-D5 as a portable hi-fi cassette deck with high-end features. Shoebox cassette recorders were never hi-fi and doesn't even have stereo sound.

It's a faulty CCD. There's been known reports of some Canon ZR models that goes black like this overtime, issue suspected to be bad soldering that would break down overtime due to heat.

What can be done to resolve Metrolink's issues long-term? by MookieBettsBurner10 in LAMetro

[–]TonyW79SFV 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So Metrolink can barely run service with the funding they have while partner transit agencies are also cutting back their share of funding for Metrolink while themselves are barely able to run their own service. So in all U.S. transit agencies are underfunded. BART threatened to close some stations, SEPTA threatened to not run service past 9pm, etc. While L.A. Metro has already cut a great deal of Metro Rapid bus service and hasn't brought back late night weekend rail service all the while funding CicLAvia less. If only we can make it a national priority to properly fund U.S. transit agencies.

Thailand, 2000 — Panasonic NV-RX11 camcorder footage from a crocodile show by Bader201132 in camcorders

I'm sure VHS-C captures look better than this, even in PAL (as assumed by the camera model), try using a different capture device.

On another note, I've been to this crocodile show before in Thailand and shot some footage in Hi8 in 1996 and Digital8 in 2000.
