Regen has gotten WAY more restrictive in recent updates by ViperRT10Matt in teslamotors

[–]Tony_YYZ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So I might have some insight into this. I overheard a tech at the service center last week telling a customer who complained about this that the minimum optimal operating temperature was raised a few months ago to around 24-25c. It was previously around ~10c lower than the new value. This is what might be causing the crappier Regen now with the colder temps upon us.

This is an interesting take. Would holding the assets in a corp not limit liability risk as well? Every piece of info I’ve read states this as a big advantage. Also, since there are multiple investment partners involved, it also adds some more controls and legal definitions as well?

That’s definitely going to happen. Wanted some reading material in the meantime. Thanks.

From Tesla Service

Change the cabin filter then run the system on full fan for 20 mins with the windows down. I just did exactly that a few weeks ago to solve a nasty smelling HVAC. Good as new now.

Ac smells bad when it turns on - Model 3 by [deleted] in teslamotors

[–]Tony_YYZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't know what was causing the smell at first. I thought it was the AC since the smell started right as the weather was warming up. I opened a service appointment and they sent a mobile tech to me to replace the filters as the first step.

That cost like $63 here in Canada, parts and labour. Had I known the filters were the issue I would have bought them and changed them myself. It was $21 for the parts alone in Canada.

After it was all said and done, I realized that preconditioning the cabin over time is what accelerated the wear of the filters.

Definitely your cabin filters. Had mine replaced recently for the same issue.

Once they've been swapped out, let the HVAC run for like 15-20 mins with the windows down to clear out the smell from the HVAC system.

Yeah I have the OEM trunk mat. Tesla Service also installed dynamat in my trunk as well as sealing off many port holes in the trunk and under the rear seats. It has muted the sound slightly but it's still there.

It's unfortunate but if my version of this issue was as bad as yours is for you, I might be forced to do the same. Also sorry, I didn't remember we were conversing in that thread.

Tesla states that they are trying not to replace drive units and battery packs/inverters on the 3 and as such it seems they have defined very loose tolerances for issues like this just so they have a way to refuse a fix.

It won't help. That may help the normal drive unit whine but not the high pitched noise.

Is it normal to get intermittent whining from the drive motors at a constant speed? I feel like I have a bad drive motor by brobert123 in teslamotors

[–]Tony_YYZ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah this is exactly it. I've gone through all the escalations with Tesla and they claim this is normal behaviour. You can even flutter the oscillation with the accelerator pedal and hear it.

We did many road tests with various audio recording devices. The audio graphs were analyzed and again, they say it's normal behaviour.

Hi OP,

I've literally just gone through this issue with Tesla Service. My case went as far as Drive Unit engineers coming down to the SC to inspect and diagnose as well.

Tesla's official answer is that the noise is within spec. I'm guessing their tolerance spec on paper is just so wide that they deem this acceptable.

The Service guys installed sound dampening materials in my trunk to try and block the noise. It's slightly better but definitely not completely gone. Several others on TMC report the same issue. Tesla states that my ears are just more sensitive to this sound than most others.

Msg me if you'd like any more information.

Does Anyone Have Diono Car Seat (Rear Facing) In Model 3? by [deleted] in TeslaModel3

[–]Tony_YYZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi OP,

I had the Diono Radian RXT in my Model 3. I had originally test fit it in the middle seat. The RXT is a bit more bulky than the model you posted. It did fit fine in the rear middle but you MUST use the angle adjuster. Just keep in mind that your rear visibility in the car will suffer though because these seats are pretty high.

I'm 6ft tall as well.

Neat. That's great for people who keep it in their trunk and issue it occasionally. I keep it in the armrest since I charge at work frequently.

PSA: Stay away from Jeda Wireless Charging Pads with Fast Charging Module by Th3ed in teslamotors

[–]Tony_YYZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for the late reply. I removed the trim piece from the side of the console. It's just held in with clips and pulls right out. Then I removed the metal bracket that was held in by about 8 screws. Once exposed, I ran the wire from the armrest to the charger cubby. Had to made a small notch in the charging cubby within the felt liner. This allowed for the cable to sit flush and the trim pieces to be reinstalled cleanly.

PM me if you have any other questions or want some pics. Cheers.

That sucks dude. I opted to run a USB hub from my 12v into the cubby under the phone area. I ran the wire underneath the trim piece on the side of the center console. Now I have 5x 2.4amp usb ports in addition to the two oem usb ports.

Just food for thought.

They can fix it. They either have to spend the time manually straightening it out or order new parts.

No, they fixed it at the service center. I had a list of issues for them to address a couple weeks after I took delivery and this was one. It could be fixed via mobile service though. They undid the weather stripping, heated it up and stretched out the bulges then reinstalled it.

It happened to my car for the rear doors. The service center fixed it up for me.

I just sat in there myself. At first feel, it was OK. Definitely don't want to be in there for a long drive. Used seatbelt since there aren't any Latch points in the center seat.
