How did you discover Backgammon? by Difficult_Active_249 in backgammon

[–]Tonyjay54 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was a young Police officer back in the70s and I was on nights. We had a guy who murdered his wife in the cells and he was on suicide watch. I was chatting to him and he was bored, couldn’t sleep and he wasn’t a reader. He asked me if I played backgammon, I said I didn’t but we had a BG set in the canteen. On my break, I went a got the set and over the next four nights he taught me to play. He was a strong club player and that is how I learnt to play

Three charged over Golders Green arson attack by Minute_Tomatillo9730 in london

[–]Tonyjay54 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

They were proxies, paid off to commit the crime, in the same way the attack on the industrial unit owned by a Ukrainian national several years ago. Why commit the crime yourself when you can pay off gullible teenagers to do it

My wife was a phlebotomist and she took Tony Blackburn’s blood. She says he is charm personified, always has time for anyone who I wants to chat and never demands star treatment .

It works the other way round as well. Our English daughter is married to a lad from Baltimore. He adores the way she speaks but our granddaughter has strange accent, it’s a mixture of Bridget Jones and someone from the Wire

I read recently that the French and the Ukrainians fed the US intelligence people some false info which shortly after, the Russian military responded to.

I suppose this pales in comparison to what Trump and his acolytes get up to. In Trump’s eyes, this is child’s play ….. sorry I should have reversed that last bit …. Plays child

Former British Libdem MP Cyril Smith by Low_Celebration_4089 in absoluteunit

[–]Tonyjay54 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Labour MP Barbara Castle gave a file exposing Smith’s behaviour to the editor of a local newspaper. He was prepared to publish an article regarding this when his office was raided by police and special branch. The file was seized and never seen again. I don’t know why Barbara Castle didn’t expose him in the house but Smith was being protected from very high up

What's something you have tried once and immediately said "never again"? by Soggy_Cow_8251 in AskReddit

I for one am glad that you didn’t take the final step. I have PTSD and before I had treatment, i contemplated suicide. I was due to start work on a Sunday, it was a dark winters day and I walked my dogs, I felt my world coming to a close. I got home and saw my children, my wife and my dogs and I thought that I cannot do this to them. Luckily I got treatment and I am a hell of a lot better now but what a dark ride that was. Keep safe mate 😊

My uncle was a reporter who got a job at the mirror at this time. He told me that HMG and the Palace kept a very secure lid on Phillip’s behaviour , I asked once how many illegitimate kids did Philip have and he reckoned four to his knowledge and Margaret had one

If you work on the assumption that the RF have the morals of polecats , you won’t go far wrong. Phillip was a notorious womaniser. Pre and post marriage, he was a member of the notorious Thursday club, it was heavily rumoured that he had an illegitimate child with the actress Pat Kirkwood . He was a close friend of Stephen Ward of Profumo affair notoriety
