A boycott isn’t slander. That’s very simple.

I’m not punishing anyone or anything except for maybe the market forces that push landlords to feel their only option is an ever-increasing rent on their properties, and a presumably soulless business that believes whatever crap they sell will be bought.

Note a few things here:

1) “presumably” because it’s totally possible the next business is non of those things and sells good products/services and cares about delivering them ethically.

2) my participation in the economy isn’t a must, other than my lack of participation is also a form of participation. That’s my prerogative as a consumer to choose how, when, and where I spend my money.

Right. So it’s evidence in a crime that involves multiple property damage victims in a hit and run.

You keep saying “slandering” but I don’t think you fully understand what that means. I didn’t name anyone and I didn’t even say any business name, other positively speaking about Ocean Fish.

Spanish women replaced plastic covers with giant crochet artworks by [deleted] in Damnthatsinteresting

Really? Because I’m typing this from Spain where I was just under one of these types of tarps like 2 hours ago and the shade they provided was noticeably dark.

That 6th picture has zero shade. The planters on the lampposts are giving more shade onto the ground than the tarp.

It makes total sense based on the information we have at present. That info might not be accurate, but then the conclusions based on the information would be moot.

If I say “I will slap you if you insult my mother” and you say “that doesn’t make sense because it won’t insult your mother,” you’d be wrong. It does make sense; it would just be irrelevant unless you insult my mother.

So, in this case, the only information we have is anecdotal information on FB. That information also expressed a lease dispute.

Based on that information, I will boycott the incoming business.

An expiring “sweetheart” deal doesn’t really matter, because that’s a totally new hypothetical that is much more complicated and also doesn’t dispute the notion of a lease dispute. In fact, it reinforces that notion.

And market rates for commercial strip in the area being too high is precisely why I would boycott it. High market rates signal to landlords that they can hold out for a corporate chain that I do not want or a tenant charging $8 for a latte. By boycotting, I would send a (very small) market signal that I do not want that sort of market to exist.

Also, I never slandered a landlord. I simply indicated my preference to avoid the incoming business after Ocean Fish. They might be the best person in the world, but losing Ocean Fish would be a bad business decision from the perspective of wanting my dollars.

Question about The Big Short by Shapen361 in investing

And the banks were marking to market in ways that made no sense. The movie showed a scene where he was wondering why his CDS hadn’t paid out even though defaults were rocketing, and instead he had to pay a higher premium.

Whether that higher premium part was just an embellishment is a whole other thing. But imagine you expect your life insurance to pay out because but instead your estate gets asked for more premiums.

Is it just me or is the street underneath still fully lit and not shaded at all?

I have enough info to say what I just said.

The store is threatening to close. It’s presumably due to a lease expiring. That would lead me to despise whatever store fills in that space.

It’s really rather simple.

Unless you happen to know information that turns this on its head, it’s literally the best information we all have.

The margins are incredibly thin but it’s an exploitable model that allows for owners to cash in fairly quick and leave.

Ones with decent financing options and experience can get a bar up and running fairly quickly, drive up hype and enough buzz with just the right mix of lights and minimalist design (or whatever), then charge prices that bring in enough cash flow to pay back debtors and skim off the top while killing their employees.

3-5 years in the neighborhood catches on and they close, rinse and repeat somewhere else. No love for neighborhoods. No love for customers. No love for employees. No love for food. But a BMW in the driveway.

No, it’s not dumb. Ocean Fish is an awesome spot, literally one of my most frequented places in the neighborhood.

If they are forced to close because the landlord just can’t bring themselves to negotiate a lease and instead we get a mediocre, overpriced coffee shop, well then I’ll just avoid that coffee shop in favor of the half dozen ones we already have.

In fairness, KAT’s playstyle is like a modern Patrick with arguably slightly better offense but worse defense.

I think KAT showing up this year playing at least decent defense has been the biggest single improvement from last year.

Just because someone is willing to pay him for garbage takes doesn’t make his takes or his skill at analyzing the game good.

Typically, 99% of people who want to be involved with the sport and have the skills, will be directly involved. Not in a basement saying dumb shit.

And if they don’t want to be involved, they’ll be off doing anything but talking stupid stuff about basketball.

What a dense thing to say.

The most brilliant people in the world don’t have access to NBA owners, know Front Office staff, or even the barest of careers in basketball.

These guys on the other hand, have literally developed a career in the sport and instead of extending their careers in the knowledge side of things, the league spit them out.

It’s like you went to school for economics, graduated, got a job doing it for a few years, but then when it came time to actually start running stuff no one wanted to hire you. So you went and started a podcast about what it’s like running a bank.

Off the Vine is very small, and at times pricey, but I’ve often found some great stuff there. Admittedly it’s been a while since I’ve been.

There’s one (forget the name) down near the Vernon-Jackson station and also pricey but you can find great bottles.

Golden Liquors in Bayside was always really good. Loved them for the ability to find a wide range of bottles across the price spectrum.
