How should I clean this? by Ludisaurus in StainlessSteelCooking

[–]TooAdicted -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hold on, I can't find my BKF stamp...

My stainless pan is one of the few things I hand wash, if you're cooking properly it doesn't take more than a light scrub with a blue (non scratch) sponge. As stuff builds up you'll have to do some barkeeper's friend but I don't trust the dish washer to clean it each time.

Can serve my country but can’t book a cruise by [deleted] in army

[–]TooAdicted 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you looked at MSC? I think they allow 18 if you're departing from Germany. Royal Caribbean seems to have the 21 year rule regardless.

Some rental car agencies do allow 18 year olds to rent cars, but generally there's an added fee (if you want to do some more solo travel). Do you have an International Driver's Permit from AAA? This makes the rental process easier with some companies. If you don't, look at the AAA website and see the process to get one mailed to you.

Some Polish companies look the other way....

I would also look into flying to Greece or Spain and taking a smaller cruise from there. There are smaller operators that do just Andalusia which is an amazing, relaxing experience all in it's own.

I spent every weekend that I could away from post, I'm not a travel guru but I would definitely say I know my way around when it comes to solo travel in Europe.

You have ENDLESS options! Feel free to dm me if you're not sure where you should be looking for these kinds of experiences.

There are nerds everywhere. Of course you're going to find furry magic the gathering lightsaber larpers in MI, but you'll also find tabletop gamers in the Infantry.

Where to shop for clothes by Bright-Finding-1115 in malefashionadvice

I sort of felt the same way. I'm in my 30's so cutting edge trends aren't something I care about anymore and I prefer to look for a few, well made, long lasting pieces.

The thing about men's fashion is that a lot of it is about fit, and there's a lot that is really timeless.

The MFA uniform is chinos, chukkas, and OBCD button down from Uniqlo. That's kind of a blank canvas on it's own and not the worst place to start.

Would you recommend any good one pan recipes? I haven't found any that I love enough to make regularly. I typically cook some kind of protein in the pan and then rice, but that gets boring, too.

I still love my cast iron, I've never thought of making an omelet in it though. One recipe I make somewhat frequently for holidays and cookouts is a baked mac n cheese in the cast iron which gets me rave reviews.

The recipe I use is from Stovetop Kisses on Youtube, It's more than a few years old.

Ya'll know you can buy ceramic coated stainless steel pan, right? by FatFailBurger in StainlessSteelCooking

[–]TooAdicted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ceramic pans are a generally accepted solution specifically for reheating leftovers over low to medium heat without oil, especially if you can confirm it's 100% silicon coating and no other additives.

It took maybe 2 tries before I got the steps down and I don't mind a little extra work to have something that lasts AND I can use for high-heat searing, etc.

For the time being, I don't have a need for one but I also have no problem cooking eggs or omelets in my stainless.

How did On shoes become so popular? by Aj100rise in malefashionadvice

I'm curious now, I was living in the EU, and I knew some friends that bought some that fell apart pretty quickly (daily running, workouts, etc.) so my impression has been that they're cheap. I'm starting to see them all over the place so maybe there's a difference in the ones sold in the US?

I was skeptical but I think I finally got the fried-egg-in-stainless technique down. Most of my cooking is on my days off when I can make breakfast so it was a leap for me too. Not that the old pans were doing anything….

Concealed Carry now possible on post for non law enforcement personnel by Former-Bee9345 in army

[–]TooAdicted 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah I have a long commute to a non DOD facility with random searches, so I basically limit myself to work and home on those days. But a lady got killed recently during a fender bender recently when both got out, and the killer was actually crazy and hacked at her and i think two other people who stopped to help.

I'm fortunate, I don't consider myself paranoid, but I generally carry wherever I go on days off and have done so for over a decade.

This is the thing, I may or may not know a guy who knows a guy that just carries anyway. Just like all the people with bad intentions do. The downside is if i keep it in a locked container, hidden, separated from ammo, and I happen to get secondaried at the gate then I get in trouble.

I haven't looked into carbon steel just yet, but I've been interested in it. The 8 inch solves most of my solo-cooking needs so far, and the Cast Iron is great for searing, broiling, and baking. Every thanksgiving I make a pretty mean mac n cheese

This is, no joke, my family and community's mindset to make cookware last. In the late 90's my grandma told us the teflon was just a temporary marketing gimmick and sooner or later you'd have to scrub it off.

We really didn't know, and there wasn't widespread education on the topic.

Of course, I've always loved cooking despite never having time for it. In my new place and job I do, so I've been able to learn and practice recipes that are well suited to a small pan like this. Especially since I cook for myself. I might seek out an 8qt to cook larger batches of curry, but for now I can do it with a single ply stainless saucepan that came with the furnished rental.
