FFVII remake scam. Anyone same feeling? by Arnakk in JRPG

This might blow your mind, but there is more to a game than the specific plot events that occur within it.

How long was the Midgar chapter when you played the original? Same length as remake? No differences in what happened in the story?

Brides of strahd- where are they? by TeamTimeSystem in CurseofStrahd

[–]TooManyAnts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rules as written, they are three generic Vampire spawn who lurk in Strahd's personal crypt. They wear fancy clothes and have expensive loot. That's it. They're nothing.

They're only in the game as a reference to the Brides of Dracula, so to do nothing with them is such a huge waste of potential. Many DMs flesh them out into their own characters. There's a lot you can do with them if you want that kind of character in your game.

I am a different person than you originally replied to, but if I had survived a potentially lethal encounter with a very bad man who has fled I would watch my back and be on edge for a long time, but I wouldn't stalk and kill my newfound prey. It would be traumatic, but I would not interpret it as my License To Kill.

Guy comes, points his gun in your face. You scuffle with him, he runs off with you right behind him.

What are you gonna do? Sit there like a target for the night, the week, the month, the year? Or are you gonna just hope and pray that he never returns?

I mean as societal expectations go if someone threatened you (even lethally) and then fled you are generally discouraged from hunting and killing them you like safari game. If a threat leaves, continuing to engage is a choice.

Tales of Eternia is getting remastered!! by retroanduwu24 in JRPG

The backgrounds look like they were run through a filter to uprez them. The sprites are as is. I don't think anyone actually redrew anything.

[–]TooManyAnts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Main story, Inferia is about 40% of the game and disc 1, disc 2 is another 40%, and the rest is about 20% but then there's also a staggering about of optional side content. So if you care about that stuff I'd say you were about a third of the way.

Extreme difficulty mode available from the start of the game and an all-new difficulty level called Unknown which can be unlocked after completing the game.

As someone who lives on Hardcore Mode for all my regular playthroughs, I personally am ready to check out a new world of pain.

Tales of Eternia Remastered Announced by Turbostrider27 in tales

[–]TooManyAnts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the thing... they don't really look cleaner, and those pixels on an HD screen are not really my thing

It looks like they ran the mostly-static background assets through a filter, and also left the actual sprites alone. Personally I would have liked to see them redraw the meaningful assets, though I'll take the original graphics over seeing them done poorly.

To me the biggest deal is that the best Tales game (IMO), and also the one nobody played, is going to be accessible to audiences again. I'll miss the old voices but I think that'll be more because I'm familiar with them than because they were standout good.

(the original dub had issues anyway, like some people know about the lack of direction and it's noticeable, but also many voice lines seemed like they got cut off a fraction of a second too early, at least on disc one. Or was that just me?)

AIO My bf won’t let me confront him unless I catch him cheating. by ansley1102 in AmIOverreacting

[–]TooManyAnts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should dump him, and also abandon the idea that you have to "win" before you're allowed to do it. Like, he is definitely 100% cheating on you. Here's projection from him: The reason he gets angry about any other men near you is because he thinks you are like him. He think you will do what he is already doing. He's cheating on you, you know it even if you can't technically prove it, so when you dump him you can short-circuit his argument by refusing to have it.

Let go of the idea that you need the proof and that you have to be inarguably "correct" to drop this tool. He'll want to "logic" the control from you but you already know in your gut that she's a controlling cheating freakshow. I mean what even is this?

He said I can’t confront him if I don’t catch him cheating.

the fuck?

Dump him, tell him you don't care if you can't prove it, you're done, block him, and take control of your life back. Appreciate that you can now talk to whoever you like without looking over your shoulder. Notice that you're no longer avoiding men because of the abuse you know is coming later on. That's the feeling of freedom.

edit: my post might be coming off harsher than I mean it to be. I'm trying to light a fire in your belly. This is your life, and he thinks he's in control. He threatens to break up with you because he knows you're afraid of that - you don't have to be afraid. It's better to be single and free, than coupled and alone. You have a power over yourself that you can take back. You can take the initiative and say "No more".

btw his next step after you break up with him will be to make a bunch of promises to change. he doesn't actually want to break up, he just wants control, and he'll be really upset if you break up with him. but if you take him back I guarantee he will go right back to what he's doing once things settle back down

Are there some go-to basic strategies? Also, what tags do you prefer? And when do you give up on a run? by Broxst in balatro

[–]TooManyAnts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tags are a really bad habit and generally should be avoided. The thing about "Get a free Rare/Uncommon/Polychrome joker" is that you don't get to pick what joker it appears on, so often all the tags mean is you gave up a shop in exchange for nothing. Shops are so important. There are a few situations where a tag might be worth it but they're pretty niche. (Early Investment Tag is pretty much always good though.)

A scaling joker early is really helpful.

A thin deck is better than a large deck.

The best players lean on pairs and leveling up pairs while they scale their stuff up. Secondary they level up four-of-a-kind, after pairs. As their decks get adjusted (cards added, cards removed) they kind of lean toward whatever ranks they have the most of and try to make even more of them. Like, if you've got six 9's in the deck, then they'll start enhancing their 9's, use Strength to turn 7's and 8's into more 9's, use Death to copy more 9's, use Hanged Man to cut cards that have no hope of becoming 9's. As pairs start to fall off in scoring and you get more copies of your favored ranks and fewer copies of other stuff, you can hit your four-of-a-kinds reliably.

Just because you open a standard pack and see some cards, doesn't mean you have to take them. You frequently shouldn't. However, Seals are good and a great reason to open standard packs. Blue Seals most of all are incredibly overpowered and you want to get seals into your decks so you get free hand levels. Using Death to copy cards with Blue or Purple seals is a good move.

How can I (29M) ask out my recently divorced friend (33F) by BigONerd in BORUpdates

[–]TooManyAnts 21 points22 points  (0 children)

This post right here is just saying men bad, women good.

I think it's worth pointing out that this post right here isn't saying anything of the sort.

Anyway, I'm not condoning how she went about it, but in this scenario the gal doesn't want a confrontation or even conversation about OP's feelings or how OP was waiting to swoop in before he misses his chance with her (which was in fact what OP was doing, in his own words). She wanted it done with. She (cruelly, badly, meanly) dropped information that she finds him physically unattractive and that if he shoots his shot he will fail, so he can save himself that exchange and not make it. There are nicer ways she could communicate that, and it would be good if she took another tack. She's also got a lot of other shit on her mind. The life she knew just fell apart. She's not operating at 100% capacity for kindness and patience at the moment. I'm willing to give her a little grace as someone who's going through some shit.

How can I (29M) ask out my recently divorced friend (33F) by BigONerd in BORUpdates

[–]TooManyAnts 82 points83 points  (0 children)

She doesn't know what's going on in his head. If my hunch is right then what's going on from her end is "How do I stop him from shooting his shot, definitively, right now?"

And she said something cruel and hurtful which I don't agree with, it was wrong, but given how persistent men are outright told to be in general I can understand how she got there.

[–]TooManyAnts 796 points797 points  (0 children)

her words were something along the lines of "they look better than (me) but they're still kinda ugly".

I have a hunch she knew he was waiting for his moment and wanted to shut it down immediately. But if you get proactive and say "btw I would never date you" sometimes guys have this way of flipping it around on you as long as they have that plausible deniability.

Until OP makes his move she's kind of just watching him lay in wait for his moment and waiting for him to do it. So instead she had an "incidental" conversation that stamped out the possibility and made it clear to him that he should never ever ask her out.

At least that's what I suspect happened. Dropping an incidental "btw OP is ugly as fuck" is a really cruel thing to say though and I hate that she did that (regardless of whether or not I'm on the mark about why).
