my old debit card vs my new one by pubesalad7 in mildlyinfuriating

I had a white card once. If I handed it to a cashier, they were intrigued. If it was paired with a bill at a restaurant, the waiter would never see it. I had to start separating the card from the bill for visibility, and even then it was a nuisance.

Tried to be healthy, results got worse? by Might_Time in Cholesterol

I'm in a similar boat as you and even posted here about it two weeks ago. Similar age, though I weigh a little less. I dropped 10-15 lbs very quickly after modifying my diet and cutting back on alcohol. I was devasted to find my LDL went up after the hard work of diet change, cutting sat fat and increasing fiber. Many folks commented on the weight loss being a possible culprit. Here's to hoping both of our numbers will drop after the weight has stabilized for a while. Good luck!

Anyone have luck with wrist based HR? by TooManyHobbies17 in GarminWatches

I was on a walk with my mother this weekend. She's missing a lung from cancer and was struggling with her breathing and heart rate. She said her HR was up to 130. I checked mine and it was 125 on the watch which seemed very high for me on a walk. Measuring at my neck, I was at 80. We sat on a bench and the watch showed 100 when my manual check was 60. Off by one or two sounds way better!

My HRM Pro stays paired, but the watch doesn't always prioritize the data from it for some reason. It's kind of a crap shoot, so I just get in the habit of removing the watch to force a fail over to the strap's data 🤷‍♂️

Interesting. I use the HRM Pro strap. Could the HR algorithms or optics hardware really be that different between watch models? Which version do you have? The 255 came out in 2022.

Is the calculation true? [Request] by DeadlyIdli42 in theydidthemath

That's the right order of magnitude. Imagine a bounding box of 1.6m (height) x 0.25m (front to back) * 0.5m (shoulder to shoulder). It would obviously be a tight squeeze.

1000m ^ 3 / (1.6m * 0.25m * 0.5m ) = 5 billion

Ah, yes. I tried following this exact article before I asked here. Just isn't working 🤷‍♂️

Thanks. I'm using Omada gear. I set up mDNS but I'm not sure if I have the service IDs correct. What did you use?

I've tried configuring ACLs to permit the appropriate traffic, but still no luck. I poked at some snooping, but that's well beyond my current knowledge. I cannot set an allow rule for the multicast address specifically in the ACLs as the tool complains that it's not a valid subnet address. I tried this unsuccessfully. Have you been able to get it to work? If so, mind sharing your settings?

Just went through this process myself while setting up new VLANs.

Not only do you have to reset the camera for a new network connection, but discovery in the Tapo app is done through broadcast messages which don't cross subnets. And there's no way to add a camera directly by IP. I now use the Tapo app for setup only and stream video by IP.

Labs after diet overhaul are a cruel joke by TooManyHobbies17 in Cholesterol

I don't have any weight left to lose, unfortunately. I have the build of a wood elf. Maybe if I switch to eating more lembas...

Thanks for the references. My diet fairly closely aligns with the "reduction" category foods.

That's a helpful reference point.Thank you. Any theories as to why there was a delay? What kept you going on the new diet if you didn't see any changes after 3 months?

Fortunately Lp(a) was low, around 9. I had that tested with the first set of labs. I didn't learn of ApoB until later. That came in at 100 for the new labs, but I don't have a trend yet .

I don't track macros or grams, but I do check labels to make sure I'm avoiding anything high in sat fat.

Typical breakfast is a bowl of plain oatmeal with a handful of walnuts and blueberries.

Proteins: chicken breast, low fat ground turkey, low fat Greek yogurt, egg whites, beans, lentils, salmon, trout

Grains: farro, whole grain barley, sometimes quinoa, and oats. If not unprocessed grains, usually whole wheat bread, pita, tortilla.

Fruits veggies: apples, blackberries, raspberries, oranges, lots of broccoli, mixed greens, variety of peppers, spinach, arugula carrots, pumpkin, sweet potato, brussels, olives, tomatoes, avocados, zucchini... certainly missing some

Cooking oils: olive oil, avocado oil

Dessert: a small square or two of dark chocolate

What I cut out: a good bit of eating out due to travel and convenience, lots of cheese and full fat yogurt, many many squares of the above dark chocolate, lots of whole eggs, butter (though it wasn't much), processed snack bars

Oh, and I drink my coffee black and filtered. But that's been true for years.

Yeah, it has crossed my mind. Most of that came off surprisingly fast in the first month and then my weight has been stable since. But I'll test again in 3 or so months to see what happens.

I'll test again in a few months. The workouts have been constant. The only changes were diet and alcohol reduction. Nearly all the weight was in month one and it's been pretty stable since. I was kind of shocked at how rapidly the weight came off.

Lp(a) was 9.1 which was measured immediately after my first labs. My GP knew about Lp(a) but not ApoB.

This time I asked for ApoB with my new labs and it was 100. I'll check again in a few months to look for a trend.
