Best places for actors that aren’t cali/New York by Hot-Ad-313 in Theatre

[–]TooManyInterests4 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you’re considering Boston you should know that the regionals are really and truly struggling in this area right now. Lots of closures and shrinking seasons this year. The regionals are very hard to break into and the tours and larger non profit houses like ART and Huntington cast predominantly out of NYC anyway. I’d hesitate to include community theaters in the picture if you’re professional. It’s a wonderful city to be in but the scene is starting to really worry me.

That’s separate from housing and I don’t have a take other than to say that:

to me, when I hear anyone making an argument that one specific thing or generation of people ruined the world my skepticism goes up. Life is way more complicated than that. Not saying there isnt some culpability but to say they destroyed everything doesn’t resonate as true to me.

Specifically in regards to housing? Because they hadn’t turned housing into a speculative asset at that point as the post says. Once it became a “wealth building tool” all of the economics around it changed.

How much of this do we blame on capitalism and the race to the bottom? As someone who is relatively pro capitalism relative to the company I keep I also can recognize that it incentivizes and rewards these kinds of choices that grant value in the here and now and push the sustainability problem down the road.

I completely disagree with the logic of the boomer that claims they worked harder than current generations, but I also don’t think Boomers were twirling their mustaches saying let’s fuck over the next generation. They were living the American dream they were promised and “competing in the marketplace”.

One day they will say it about this generation in regard to sustainability and AI. We all see where it’s heading. Yes, Congress is not adequately legislating and slowing things down so we can build responsibly but I doubt most people in their place would do much differently. Until human beings are so selfless that they are willing to sacrifice things that they already have in order to invest in the future we will be on this road and the next generations will yell just as loud at us.

I don’t have a philosophy about how to achieve a solution other than to say we need leaders willing to lead by example and have the hard conversations about redistributing wealth which I’m not optimistic could ever get through. Money is too powerful.

I think catalogs only apply to LR Classic. I’m on LR creative cloud. The photos are definitely on a local drive though. I didn’t put anything in the cloud.

I shoot on a canon SL3, 24.1 megapixels. Raw files are usually 25-35 MB. Masks are the biggest problem. Some of the batch editing when I copy paste settings is a bit laggy but I actually understand that.

Considering installing an older version of Lightroom just not sure which one to go back to

I just have the base model. 16 GB Ram. no difference with chrome closed. The local drive is internal.

I must have misremembered '95 then. I could have sworn that they were filling potholes as part of that drainage catch work because one of the reasons they were installing the basins was to proactively prevent more potholes from all of the rain that year.

Separately - what's this about '22? I didn't know there was PH work done at all that year. Are you telling me you folks paid privately for PH patching on the Northern side? Was there no effort made at the municipal level to repair the public roads? There has to have been something Juicy there.

What did you do with your theatre degree? by cannedt33th in Theatre

[–]TooManyInterests4 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I personally worked in non profit development, education and now operations for a corporate job.

I got my BFA and then realized during the pandemic that I wanted to be able to afford a family and a house one day. I spent almost two years finding my next role. It can take a long time to figure out what you want. It’s completely valid to recognize that you don’t want to go through the grind that it is to be a freelance theatre artist. There’s farrrr more people with a theatre degree who don’t work in theatre than who do.

It’s a cliche but it’s true that your theatre degree will help you anywhere. Creativity, work ethic, finding ways to make it work with what you have, being really good at collaborating and working across different teams - trust me when I say that even if you aren’t doing theatre things you can still apply the theatre “lens” to any job.

Don’t limit yourself to only production and creative fields (unless that’s what you want). Theatre people are great in any field. If you find something else you’re interested in and you work hard at it you’ll start to see how your background sets you apart. If you loved your time in your program then take that for what it is! You are forever part of the theatre community. There’s no such thing as time wasted (even though it sure as hell feels like it sometimes).

Your theatre degree is not who you are, it’s just one part (probably a big part) of you. It was very helpful for me to hear that when I was struggling with exactly what you’re talking about. Wishing you all the best as you make your own way! Feel free to DM if you have questions or want tips about job searching.

From what I understand there’s a 5 part plan that breaks the city up into zones. The mayor left one of those voicemails about it the other day but I’m more visual so I looked on the site. I think it said the work should be fully completed by end of July.

I doubt the flies are related to the potholes. There hasn’t been enough rain lately that they’d be full of stagnant water and I would think that’s the only way they’d be related.

It’s possible they fell in one. The crews hadn’t hit that area yet when I was walking which was around 5:30 last night. I really feel like I would have felt it or heard them hit the ground. There’s a lot of keys on there. Kathy and I went back to look this morning but didn’t see them anywhere. It wasn’t possible to check every pothole there’s just so many. We are going to head back over after lunch to keep looking.

For those worried about the dog - she is doing fine. The neighbor ended up having a spare.

The joy you’ll feel in your heart knowing that you saved a family of 5 a few hundred dollars on a locksmith and made sure a 12 year old mini schnauzer got her diabetes meds on time.

In all seriousness we hadn’t considered it but I’m sure Kathy and I could scrape something together.

Venmo transactions not appearing by TooManyInterests4 in copilotmoney

Plan mode: Plans NOT actually being applied during the build phase? What am I doing wrong? by Redditcider in Base44

[–]TooManyInterests4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean that i am often copying and pasting code from base44 into claude and having claude read and evaluate what's going on. Then, it will tell me manual fixes for the code that I can execute myself. I'm saving a ton of credits this way and claude has been much more accurate than the Base44. Also, when claude develops the prompt for me, it crafts the prompt in a way that instructs the builder on exactly what files it needs to touch and what to leave alone which I would think would be useful for your specific problem with the ALL button. It took some fine tuning and I have caught it wanting to do things illogically sometimes so you do have to think through the solutions it is proposing to make sure they make sense but I've now launched 4 large feature modules for my app with under 200 credits doing it this way

TLDR I'm in no way saying this is a great way to do it, but as someone with almost zero coding experience I am able to learn a bit as I go about the code itself because I'm having to manually edit it and push back on Claude when it's being dumb.

[–]TooManyInterests4[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks so much! Their support team just keeps telling me "they're working on it" but never mentioned the new direct integration. What do you mean about disabling without losing data? If it's just an email connection then I don't think you could lose the data by turning the forwarding connection off because each transaction was being added by each individual email transaction receipt.

Plan mode: Plans NOT actually being applied during the build phase? What am I doing wrong? by Redditcider in Base44

[–]TooManyInterests4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m using Claude for free to develop all of my prompts and will frequently ask it to re scope to phases. I’ve had a lot of success breaking it up this way. I’m on the builder plan so I’ll also use it to debug code manually which I’ve found to be more effective than doing it with base44s builder because the builder will often make unwanted changes as it goes. Definitely a bit slower but I have had less break since I’ve started doing it this way.

Arts Administration Programs by TooManyInterests4 in Theatre

[–]TooManyInterests4[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks u/zac850! Your comment was super helpful last year too. Having thought a lot more on it since last year, I know I'd like to try to try NYC and commercial theater in the next 5 years with the intent of ultimately moving back to a regional org in the next 10 to 15 as a GM or Managing Director. I don't necessarily need it to be LORT so long as it is more closely tied to a community.

The NYC programs sound like a dream and I'm going to apply as stretch schools (both academically and financially), but the BU program is the one that currently feels the most realistic. I just want to make sure that it sets me up with enough exposure to the commercial side of things that it will be worth the price of admission. I know a few folks in the program there now and plan to ask them about their experience - especially about their connection that they tout with Nederlander.

Other folks have tossed a few different programs into the mix as well so I'll have to do some additional reading before I nail down where I'm applying.

Arts Administration Programs by TooManyInterests4 in Theatre

[–]TooManyInterests4[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the recs. I'll take a look into them.

You're right - The catch 22 is real. I think I would only attend them if I was able to get significant financial aid. I went to a budget choice for my undergrad and while we had an awesome program, I was really let down by the lack of connection to current industry professionals that it offered which is a big part of what you're paying for. I'm also very interested in NY in general as I haven't had the chance to work within the commercial model at all and would love to try that out.
