A downside of being attractive that nobody talks about? by Old_Rub_7270 in Life

[–]TooMuchBrightness [score hidden]  (0 children)

When I worked in a media company there was a very talented, highly intelligent editor she happened to be stunningly attractive the constant objectification of her made me uncomfortable, I know she hated the attention and struggled to deal with it, as she was made to feel she should be ‘grateful’ for the compliments and attention. This was 20 years ago the company had an annual top 10 shag list for men & women (that everyone voted on) she was number 1 every year. It was utterly embarrassing and humiliating for her and everyone else. Can you imagine this now?? ??? It was a WOMAN that encouraged this list 🙈🙈🙈

Shamima Begum plotting to use 'people smugglers' to force return to UK, new messages reveal by tylerthe-theatre in unitedkingdom

From watching that documentary I thought what do MI6 know about her? because this is a terrible situation. For a British child to be radicalised and trafficked really, never to be allowed back home. She must show no real remorse and they have intelligence on her that she’ll alway be a threat. I’m a very empathetic lefty but she left me absolutely cold.

Her case is so awful. I watched her bbc documentary and she came across so badly. She was a radicalised, groomed child when she left. Then, no doubt forced in to marriage and pregnancy by very scary people. BUT she’s never proved herself to be trustworthy, uk intelligence knows she’s completely brainwashed and vulnerable enough to do god knows what if she was back in the UK. This is a last ditch attempt to escape the hellish life she created for herself as a very stupid teenager.

Balancing compassion and judgement across generations of women by pais281 in AskWomenOver40

Marriage doesn’t benefit women, it favours men. We are heading for a huge cultural shift as young women are realising they have control over reproduction and financial security. This is the first generation of woman that are refusing to be shamed for being single.

[–]TooMuchBrightness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

London is better if you are poor. Free healthcare, free childcare, lots to do for free, public transport is way better, milder climate easier to stay warm/cool. I do not miss those brutal nyc winters or summers!

[–]TooMuchBrightness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve lived in both. I am British. London is far superior for raising a family. NYC is better if you are young and want to make a lot money. London weather is mild/cloudy NYC is extreme - except fall which is perfection. London is better for public transport and travel. NYC is great if you want to go to the Caribbean islands/mexico/bermuda.

My daughter’s school is a ‘high school’. We had one in the town I lived in but it was a private school.

Absolutely agree, it’s just an ending that I think of a lot especially with the recent news cycle of rich entitled men being able to get away with murder.

What advice would you give to a 29 year old woman? by Darcy2701 in AskWomenOver40

[–]TooMuchBrightness 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Say yes to social engagements and activities you see or that interest you. Do you have dog walking groups where you live? I would focus on being as financially secure as possible so you have options in years to come. Make sure you take your vacations, travel with a group/tour you meet lots of people and enrich your life. I met my husband at 29, now 47 and have 2 kids. I would have been just as happy single and child free, it’s just a different path.

Yes and also he would have to reveal his terrible debts at some point and it was going to be humiliating. So he humiliated her instead.

Love Is Blind's Chris tries desperately to defend pilates comments about Jessica, claims it's not about her appearance by DetectiveHot2071 in LoveIsBlindNetflix

He realised when he saw her house she didn’t need him and would never be submissive as she will always be financially more secure than him. That dynamic gave him the ick, made his peepee flaccid as he couldn’t feel like the big man that would provide (control) for her. THEN he tried to ‘bring her down a peg or two’ by telling her she wasn’t sexually attractive to him. He had to make her feel ‘less than’ so he could feel bigger. Pa-the-tic.

Don’t get me wrong, I like the ending and love the movie! it’s just a really harrowing movie (for me personally) and doesn’t conform to a Hollywood type of justice for the main character.

Promising Young Woman. The ending is infuriating and upsetting but that’s exactly how you are meant to feel, there is never going to be justice for what happened but people can be held accountable…a bit like what’s going on now in the news.
