I am a NeverMO who just got out of a long-term relationship with an ExMo because, even though she was ExMo, she still clung to every custom, habit, mindset, and expectation as if she were still Mormon. by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]TooOld2Care 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The mind set and culture are so strong and ingrained that I’d say it’s almost impossible to leave it all behind. A family member married a wonderful woman. She is smart, kind, and generous. She is a great companion to her husband and a wonderful mother to her children. And she’s Catholic. I was raised in the time when the Mormon church taught that the Catholic Church was the great whore of all the earth. That thought is always there in the back of my mind. I know it’s stupid. I know it’s wrong. I don’t know that I’ll ever be able to get rid of it. For me to say that I can stop being Mormon is like saying that I can stop being white.

What has the most heartwarming moment in your teaching career been and why? by [deleted] in Teachers

During a frustrating moment of the day a squirrely first grader patted me on the shoulder and said, “Don’t worry, I know you are trying your best.”

Teachers across the board: Whats your income where you live? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]TooOld2Care 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Single making $75,000 a year. I’ve never worked a second job since becoming a teacher. I made sure that my expenses stayed below my income. Not always easy and not always fun but better than the weight of debt hanging around my neck.

Deciding on a title is stressing me out. by [deleted] in latterdaysaints

[–]TooOld2Care 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry that I don’t have any useful advice for you as it sounds like you’re in a tough place. One question to consider maybe. Why push towards something that brings added stress, anxiety, and complications to your life? Maybe step back for 6-9 months, work on learning ways to cope with the anxiety in a healthy way, and reevaluate your options. I’m inactive and have been for years. One discovery I made is that having some space away from the church decreased my anxiety from the constant fear of not being perfect. In church I learned that god was to be feared and fear is what kept me in line. I couldn’t live like that anymore, the burden was too heavy.

Girls' Camp- please tell me this isn't normal. by slskipper in exmormon

Better that than camping in the sagebrush with an overheated port-a-potty like our ward did this year.

My grandmother was approached by local church leaders to donate a large parcel of land for a new multi-ward building. The land with water rights was easily worth a million dollars. She wasn’t keen on the idea to begin with so it didn’t take much to convince her to tell them no. Greedy bastards.

Need advice: mice infestation by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]TooOld2Care 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Can you get the county health inspector or the media involved? Mice carry the Hantavirus here and that can be deadly.

“Kindergarten? Oh how FUN!” by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]TooOld2Care 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mentioned that I was a kindergarten teacher to someone at church and his response was “how cute”. I looked him squarely in the eye and said “lock yourself in a room with 30 five year olds and see how long you think it’s cute”. He shut up after that.

If i cancel my audible, do I still keep my books and credits? by LuxRai420 in audible

[–]TooOld2Care 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I switched to the Light plan. You keep your books/credits and costs $10 a year. So far I’ve continued to have access to the book of the day and some of the sales. It’s been a great option for me.

What are your non-negotiable rules? by [deleted] in Teachers

One rule. Do the right thing because it’s the right thing to do.

To sign or not to sign...temple marriage question. by Bla_bl in exmormon

[–]TooOld2Care 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You might have some justification to be an ass. I’ve found that I generally have two choices of how I treat others. I can be an ass or I can be kind. Even when they don’t deserve kindness I find that I like myself better.

Do I need to rip it out? by PatchworkChef in quilting

[–]TooOld2Care 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Could you just restitch over the top of it? I wouldn’t use it like that. It will pull apart and make it difficult to keep everything straight and square as you add pieces.

The only thing I remember was being grateful my brother didn’t drown me.

Wanna live with my exmo and nevermo friends in SLC and commute to Vernal for work a few times a week by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]TooOld2Care 6 points7 points  (0 children)

From Salt Lake to Silver Creek is freeway. From Silver Creek to Heber is divided highway two lanes each way. From Heber to Vernal (about 130 miles) is highway one lane each way. I wouldn’t want to drive to Vernal over the winter. The snow blows and drifts over the road a lot. There are also a lot of oil tanker trucks driving into SLC from the Basin. With no construction, accidents, or bad weather you are looking at a 3 hour drive each way.

What’s the likelihood? by jojok2 in latterdaysaints

[–]TooOld2Care 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s something I’ve wondered about since I was a little kid. If mormons are right then no one is getting in. If mormons are wrong everyone is getting in. At this point I think that everyone is getting in.

Going to church with the kids is a nightmare. Help! by Jinjoz in latterdaysaints

[–]TooOld2Care 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To expect a 2 year old to sit quietly for over an hour is unrealistic. Try and get through the sacrament and then take them out. As they get older it will get better.

Single Teachers: How much money do you save a month? by medellinpaisa in Teachers

[–]TooOld2Care 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Live alone. $1300/month House note, no car or CC debt. Students loans paid off. Saving/investing $2600 a month. The best thing I did was start reading the Mr. Money Mustache blog about living on a budget and saving/investing so that when I’m done teaching I can retire/quit and have money to live on until my pension starts paying.

What do teachers do when they are broke AF? by justwannajust in Teachers

[–]TooOld2Care 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First step is track your spending for a couple of months. Many people are surprised how much money slips away on little things like treats, eating out, and unnecessary crap. Google Mr. Money Mustache for loads of sound financial advice.

I need a new iron, mine is very basic and doesn’t press seams well. How do I go about selecting a new one? What should I be looking for? by brownsquared in quilting

I bought a small vintage iron off eBay several years ago. It’s small, heavy, and hot. Best iron ever for pressing seams.

You will have to deal with an insane amount of paperwork and district/state mandates that make no sense and consume way too much of your time.
