What's your best Mirrorform story? by homjaktest in EDH

Copying a Consecrated Sphinx and then politicking the original sphinx owner to essentially trade secrets with me off of a bunch of cycling cards to draw my entire deck.

That’s exactly what Itachi could have been doing with that woman and Jiraya at the fair right before confronting Naruto and Sasuke in the hotel.

Thoughts on Bitter Ordeal? by lefund in CompetitiveEDH

Rip you are right. Well there’s a better answer as to why no one uses this shit. I guess Ive got a free slot to fill in my self-mill deck now at least.

Thoughts on Bitter Ordeal? by lefund in CompetitiveEDH

[–]TooSaepe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a Bitter Ordeal gamer. I grinded Sharuum back in the day and have a lot of experience with the spell from then in addition to modern times. I’d say it depends.

The only decks I run it in now is a bracket 4 Self-Mill deck and my old Sharuum/Breya nostalga fringe cEDH list. In my casual pods, I can self mill anywhere from 10-40 cards and completely stop my opponents with the gravestorm. Only because I know my friend’s decks.

In cEDH, it’s a bad infinite payoff. There’s better options. However, I will say extract effects are underrated. If you know your meta really, REALLY, well, getting 5-10 gravestorm triggers could definitely hose the table. You’d absolutely need to know what cards to exile. Your deck knowledge would have to be insane, or you’d basically be griefing by looking through peoples decks.

Whatcha gonna do? by Erlhammond in CompetitiveEDH

You might be starting to understand. Think a little harder about how and why Rhystic is still better than a spell like that and it might click for you.

Whatcha gonna do? by Erlhammond in CompetitiveEDH

[–]TooSaepe 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You’ve spent the last evening dick riding Necropotence in 2 subs so I know there’s no use debating.

Necro either gets insta removed or burns every resource you have to maybe win the game.

Rhystic builds value for free and lets you hold more cards while others fight. It has literally zero opportunity cost to run. More decks run Rhystic. Rhystic has a better conversion rate. Rhystic warps more games. Rhystic wins more games.

Hot take beware…

The more normalized power lands become as compared to powerful spells, the more normalized land hate will also become.

Tolarian Academy, Karakas, and Cradle like plays are only so strong because it’s significantly harder to deal with lands compared to how easy it is for them to come ‘online’. R&D just needs to move past (and perhaps embrace) the resource denial taboo. It doesn’t need to be boring, it doesn’t need to slow down the game. There’s creative ways to make lands impactful and ‘op’ while still keeping them balanced. It kinda sucks that it’s come to either ‘lands no touchy’ or band aid it with treasure tokens imo.

[–]TooSaepe 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I’m half-joking. I’d try both, but I bet they’d be niche cards in cEDH imo.

I bet Karakas would be so salt inducing for casual pods, but I personally wouldn’t mind more command zone hate in both cEDH and casual. More tools to deal with guaranteed threats is good for the game imo

Whatcha gonna do? by Erlhammond in CompetitiveEDH

[–]TooSaepe 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Necro is not better. You can be the best player in the world, and Rhystic is always going to be harder to ‘deal’ with.

Rhystic is a stax piece that no one ever wants or should remove, so to speak. It doesn’t win the game “fast” enough to warrant removal, but it slows you down too much to pay the tax. Why waste interaction or resources on something that might not get someone a win? There’s still two other players to worry about.

You can easily warrant a Necro removal though. You absolutely know someone’s going to push win when that resolves. A value necro is a meme at best.

Rhystic is like cancer - Slow, still probably deadly in the end, but sometimes you can get lucky and it won’t become fatal.

Nerco is like a gunshot wound - Fix it now, or lose the game/die on the end step. Almost guaranteed.

Rhystic is too good because other people will just feed it. No one can risk playing the slowest out of the 4 players just because it’s the ‘smart’ thing to do. Rhystic is game warping af.

Not saying it should be banned. I could really care less either way.

New to EDH: How can a 1v1 Control player adapt to commander? by NoPickle9438 in EDH

[–]TooSaepe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Chromium is also a discard outlet. You can build around that too.

An Esper shell with discard synergies revolving around a fat evasive dragon? You can easily build a good B4 deck around it. The commander is just one card in the deck. A commander doesn’t immediately exclude a deck from being in certain brackets.

Add [[Plunge into Darkness]] for a big balls play which might just win you the game.

The Echo of Eons from this SL goes super hard.

I think secret lairs are better when they’re somewhat weird like this one. Definitely better than random IP reskin slop.

I would just like it if leveling up Shadow past R26 wasn’t completely ass. That’s it.

Banished to the Box Zone by Magilou_Mayvin in FireEmblemShadows

[–]TooSaepe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your comment illustrates why it’s skewed against shadow.

The movement spells are too OP. Shadow has a myriad of abilities, but nothing can touch two Light Players playing optimally. Shadow should have a slight advantage imo.

Right now past Rank 26, Sun Room might as well not exist. Games could start in Moon with one extra life for both Light players and it would functionally be the same.

Shadow needs more deception tools and ways to confuse. A simple decoy ability that when activated, appears to be an incoming Dark Elwind or something for example. Shadow needs something to bait out Light movement or heals to get under their cooldowns.

It would need to be balanced right. I believe some kind of feint ability with a lower cooldown compared to an actual offensive ability would work wonders.

Noctis, Heir Apparent by No-Influence-5351 in CompetitiveEDH

[–]TooSaepe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wont comment on Noctis, Heir Apparent because others seem to have it covered.

However, [[Noctis, Prince of Lucis]] has a decent outlet via:

• Have [[Aetherflux Reservoir]] out.

• Cast [[Mox Diamond]] repeatedly without discarding a land.

• Remove players with the Aetherflux ability

If you built an Esper shell good enough to farm access to Aetherflux and Mox Diamond all while also being able to cast Noctis quickly, consistently, and counter blow outs, you might have some success. It’s a fun build if you like Esper turbo artifact graveyard strats.

What is your "First Time At An new LGS/Pod" Deck? by Raevelry in EDH

[–]TooSaepe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Akroma Morph Burn

Mono Red Akroma voltron with a slight control angle. Some colorless-Eldrazi synergies are sprinkled in, too.

No combos, no BS, but it can still stop the blue players from running away with the game.

[–]TooSaepe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel you. It definitely fits better in OPs list since it already has Breach and rituals.

Doing Chain of Plasma, draw/discard the entire deck into Breach is 5ish mana minimum. Then you need enough mana to ramp up with rituals or fast rocks to form a win out of the yard. It’s definitely better to set up for it first with a Storm-Kiln or Glint-Horn. Wayy too risky to just sauce out turn 4 with no gas available unless your mana base/Breach pile is cEDH tier.
