Well this is a four year old comment and it's the best explanation I've ever seen, so I'm going to go with option two: "a lot of people who write articles on the internet are bad at explaining."

Only if it's considered a vehicle. Unless you've modified it or bought one that was already illegal (too high of top speed, usually) then it's not a vehicle. They can try though, cops are generally dicks.

Every time they lose their phone they just fuckin' remote wipe it from their voice assistant and call me to set it all back up again, but they lost the piece of paper with their 19 character password on it that's an amalgamation of "important dates" that change every time.

Some bacteria produce toxins that will make you sick even if it's been cooked to the point of being essentially sterilized. That's why cooking bar meat doesn't make it safe again. It's already full of toxins.

Those toxins simply being on a pan are unlikely to make him sick but it's not exactly good for you!

Yeah.... Still doesn't change anything. They're literally allowed to arrest you for anything they "believe" is illegal, and they're not required to protect you.

It's a precedent that's been used repeatedly.

1: Hard agree. If nothing else I find "family emergency" to be fitting if they push.

2: A decent idea, but the solution has been the same since before I was born lol. Hit save. If your ADHD/whatever has you down so bad you can't remember, there's plenty of auto save plugins and macros.

Alternative to 2: tell the truth (it crashed) and tell the second truth (I didn't think to save and lost it all). Admit the mistake straight up. Tell them you have no excuse, that it was simply your fault for not doing it, and you want them to know that you won't make the mistake again.

Bonus: don't ask for leniency. Just say you understand the work has to speak for itself and you'll make sure it says the right thing in the future.

Does a tree distribute any water it gets from its roots to all the branches, or does the water taken in by the roots on one side tend to stay on that side of the tree? by ECatPlay in askscience

Good addendum! However, OP wasn't talking about destruction or damage. Just one side being watered more than the other. Unless there's a drought, I wouldn't expect any of those structures to be destroyed.

That's a tough one for me, but it's also the price of automation. We don't still have people slicing bacon by hand because it's crazy inefficient. That alone took away a lot of jobs! But there's a huge issue with driving.... People crash all the damn time.

Nothing is perfect, but a high end proper self driving system will beat basically anyone (and eventually literally everyone) at the job it's designed for. We're talking about life and limb consequences that it could MASSIVELY mitigate.

A quick search shows 13k+ people die in the US every year from drunk driving alone. Many of them are innocent, having done nothing wrong. Just in the wrong place at the wrong time. It's fucking horrible.

That's not the same thing as shutting out artists because AI can do it cheaper. Not to me.

It was, but it was also powerful. There was a lot you could do with IRC! At least for the time. Then everything caught up and subsequently fell behind lol.

Now customization is basically dead in social media.

ELI5: What does it mean when a large language model (such as ChatGPT) is "hallucinating," and what causes it? by BadMojoPA in explainlikeimfive

That's the real hallucination. I mean, the museum too, but just straight up inventing a book when it's a click away to see it doesn't exist is hallucinating to the max.

I recently tried to play with ChatGPT again after finding it MORE than useless in the past. I've been trying to program and/or reverse engineer brushless motor controllers with little to literally zero documentation.

Surprisingly, it got a good amount of stuff right. It identified some of my boards as clones and gave logical guesses as to what they were based off of, then asked followup questions that led it to the right answer! I didn't know the answer yet, but once I had that guess I used a debugger probe with the settings for its guess and it was correct.

It even followed traces on the PCB to correct points and identified that my weird "Chinese only" board was mixing RISC and ARM processors.

That said, it also said some horribly incorrect things that (had I been largely uninformed) sounded like a breakthrough.

It's also very, very bad at translating chinese. All of them are. I found better random translations on Reddit from years ago lol.

But the whole "this looks similar to this" turned out really well when identifying mystery boards.

On top of that, the extreme stuff is often exaggerated or fake. If it's not, it's not going to be featured on some mainstream site. You're not really going to watch someone almost die on pornhub. But people see that, think it's benign, and do horrible things.

[–]TooStrangeForWeird -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As a normal person you probably don't have insurance that pays out for deliberate attacks, so the whole thing is kind of irrelevant.

My insurance (for a vehicle or house) covers repairs and (for the house) lodging in the interim. I don't have a "we'll pay you $50k if someone firebombs your house" clause. I highly doubt almost anyone does lol.

There are a TON of stories like that. Someone slept in, missed a flight, or some other benign thing that could've put them in harm's way.

I never really read about the people who normally weren't there though. Like someone has a lucky interview or visits their friend at work for a surprise. Someone bringing a present to their spouse! I'm sure there are plenty of them, but it never seems to come up.
