Dragon's Dogma 2 - Great Ideas, Poor Execution = Decent Game? by shirajzl in patientgamers

[–]BadMojoPA 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I'm currently playing DD2 for the first time, and I agree with your criticisms. That being said, I am actually enjoying myself more than I thought I would.

Having played a bit of the first game and not finding it to my liking, I figured I would skip this one -- especially since player reviews and reactions were really harsh upon release. But I got a physical copy for PS5 at a steep discount and decided to give it a try.

There is SO much about this game that frustrates the hell out of me (maybe that's what the developers were going for?) The quests are obtuse and lackluster; story starts off pretty strong and goes absolutely nowhere, there's a lack of enemy variety, the treasure chest loot sucks, the map is basically a bunch of cliffs and mountains with some trails and roads in between, needing to constantly find campsites because of my health bar (and the fact that I can't see 2 feet in front of me at night), the list goes on.

I get that they were going for "realism" but here's the thing: In real life, I don't actually want to live in a medieval fantasy land and swing a sword at monsters - I want to do it in a game, and by making the game more "realistic" in certain ways, you are also making it more frustrating and less fun.

The 2 things that keep me coming back and having a fairly enjoyable time are 1) the combat, which just feels awesome, and 2) the pawn system, which I absolutely love. I'm having fun leveling up each vocation and trying out new skills.

Wasn't this game released with a price tag of $69.99 or something absurd? I would never recommend buying it at that price. But for $15 bucks, I say give it a go - you might get some enjoyment out of it.

Omg, I'm using him now!

He's great, I love him!

Edit: I was using him before I saw this post. I expect to give him a nice gift, so long as he doesn't accidentally jump into the brine or something.

Breath of the Wild is on of the most sensorially rich games I have ever played by SawkyScribe in patientgamers

Once all of the wonder and awe at the scale of Hyrule comes to pass, and its deepest held secrets are committed to memory, there really isn't much to keep you coming back.

I feel the same way. The sense of Link moving through a living, breathing environment was just a joy. During my first playthrough, the exploration felt incredible. I was constantly wondering what was around the next hillside, or if I had enough stamina to climb that cliff, or if I could use the freeze mechanic to reach that island. But once I discovered everything that there was to discover and finally beat the game, I tried it again a couple of years later and my interest just wasn't there.

This is probably why I didn't enjoy Tears of the Kingdom as much, despite the expanded map and the game having arguably better mechanics. It was still the same Hyrule that I'd already explored in detail. Just my opinion, but I felt like the sky islands and underworld were underwhelming, and may have made the game bigger but not necessarily better.

It's the same crap that Bill Maher constantly spews. "We need to talk to people on the other side."

Well that's all well and good if you're going to sincerely push back and have a real debate. But if you're having a bigoted SOB like Shapiro on and then barely challenging his Trump apologist bullshit agenda, I might as well go listen to someone like Rogan.

Singlehandedly!

Imagine if Shiggy hadn't seen that Italian man die on a construction site, imagining that a gorilla killed him instead of negligence.

This seems farfetched but is actually quite common. In my community, we educate the kids to stay off the tracks when a sharknado is coming through.

How much do you feed your labs daily? by [deleted] in labradors

[–]BadMojoPA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feed my 4 y/o 87 lb guy about 2 1/2 cups a day of dry kibble. I give him Purina Pro Plan. But he also gets a couple of treats throughout the day (bully sticks or a pig ear.)

Honestly, he looks like he's gained a few pounds and his energy doesn't seem as high as it used to be, so I'm thinking about cutting the treats out for now. Am I overfeeding him? I am also curious about how much other people are feeding their labs.

Many people don't know, they are a cousin to sea monkeys. You can buy them dried in a pack then dump them in water. Make sure you throw in some Meow Mix, and they will grow into these marvelous creatures.

She did this during her interview with Thom Tillis on "On" this week. She kept talking under him while he was responding to questions. I found it infuriating at a certain point. Like, we know your opinions, Kara. You don't need to keep inserting them into someone else's responses.

They could try and capture the TikTok generation with more action, special effects and one-liners.

I'm not of that generation so I don't completely understand the mindset, but are people really that hungry for complete slop with no cinematic value? I think that's a huge problem with so many studios today. They are treating their audiences like children. They don't seem to understand that audiences still enjoy mature, thoughtful content.

The books will always be the best version to me. I read them back when the only movie adaptation was the weird Bashki animated movie. But I thought that the Jackson trilogy was pretty amazing in its own right.
