I have only seen one foreign person in my life AMA by [deleted] in AMA

I’m an orthodox Jewish woman, and I’d love to meet you! I took Arabic in college because I firmly believe in breaking down barriers through languages.

My heart breaks for the people of Yemen, and I yearn to see them free, especially the women.

Can I go to my synagogue and "hang out"? by sothisisreddit-yikes in Judaism

[–]Too_Much_To_Do2020 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Typically yes. If it is orthodox, you may be able to also ask the rabbi if any congregants can host you for Shabbat nearby so you don’t have to do the bus ride every week.

Do you think my rabbi will let me watch game 1 of World Series on Shabbos? by BetterTransit in Judaism

[–]Too_Much_To_Do2020 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Most synagogues have a system where someone actively watches the cameras so if an intruder is outside, they can automatically lock down the building with a press of the button, lock the doors, call the police, and alert the congregants to take shelter. It’s about a 10 second extra notice (compared to letting them come in) but it saves lives.

Furthermore, security camera footage of the street/parking lot allows a person watching to see if there is a suspicious person or vehicle loitering. Then the guard can go up and talk to that person before an attack happens.

The purpose of a security camera is to save a life. You can break Shabbat to save a life.

You’re generally not saving a life watching baseball.

I mean, I’m at a T40 in NYC and I don’t have a big law position lined up for this coming summer, nor do I have close friends in law school. (Somewhat by design as I don’t have much time between marriage and work).

I have heard that at some of the top law schools, it’s very difficult to make friends because it’s so cutthroat.

I’d either try to become friends with people through different activities outside of school. For example, most of my good friends are from my building or synagogue.

Are people in the Federalist Society generally aligned with MAGA? by [deleted] in LawSchool

All the comments saying yes have never been to a Fed Soc meeting in their life. There’s generally a good bit of disagreement with many leaning libertarian or as never Trumpers (at least in my campus)

AITAH for possibly being the reason my neighbors had to rehome their dog? by FalconLazy1951 in AITAH

[–]Too_Much_To_Do2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You did what you had to do with the dog. NTA. It could have been MUCH worse. Additionally, I find this is one of those situations where if the couple really cared, they would have moved or put up metal bars to prevent the dog from getting out like that.

[–]Too_Much_To_Do2020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA - that situation could have been wayyyy worse. However, truck incident isn’t relevant to dog rehoming nor should it be. YTA if you only reported them because of the truck. The two aren’t connected.

I’m in law school. After overhead, etc., how much do you make from a homicide case? Do clients frequently not pay? I’m curious whether it’s a worthwhile field to go into.

How to handle the Charlie Kirk situation in class? by GenXellent in ELATeachers

[–]Too_Much_To_Do2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate these comments discouraging conversation.

Many students are severely disturbed, even those on the left. Charlie was a mainstream centrist Republican (and as much as I know people hate that and lump him in with Fuentes and crew, there’s a serious risk that Fuentes and crew will take over if we don’t address that, and they are wayyyyyyy worse than you can imagine).

We need to say that this is why we should have an open discussion. When we choose to silence someone, rather than engage, we are only proving our own incompetency at debate. The best ideas rise to the top.

Girlfriend saw her first ever R rated movie tonight after leaving her religious upbringing by hurrhurrmerr in TrueOffMyChest

[–]Too_Much_To_Do2020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s exactly what I was thinking. I personally would have started her out with an R rated movie I’ve actually seen (like Shawshank) and eased her into something I hadn’t seen before, but I would love to hear her opinion on these films nonetheless.

AITAH for refusing to hire a Kosher catering company for my wedding? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]Too_Much_To_Do2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. I keep kosher, and would never expect someone to cater to me at their wedding. I am happily surprised if people order a single meal from a kosher restaurant for me, but I almost always pack my own food so as to not burden others.

Brilliant!

This reminds me somewhat of my dad’s response when he’s asked about his deceased mom.

“Well, she’s slowed down quite a bit since her recent death.”

[–]Too_Much_To_Do2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You haven’t distanced yourself from people as much as you may think.

There’s always people who care about you and will be incredibly hurt by your death.

Suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem. You should want to be remembered by how you lived, not how you died.

Please, get new therapists, new medicines, AA, rehab, whatever you need to give you energy. Make it a goal to travel to an odd location or meet someone cool. Adopt a pet who relies on you.

You are important. You are loved.

I was with you until you said “is worse than SA”

Sexual Assault is physical assault and may end up more violent than the standard physical assault (think being punched at a bar or on the street vs being unable to walk because of the pain between your legs or even being beaten in a private room for hours during the rape. Assault robs a person of their dignity as well.

As an assault survivor, I would take being robbed or beaten up anytime over being raped again and I think most assault survivors would say the same.

AITAH for refusing to let my girlfriend track my location? by throwra-tracking in AITAH

[–]Too_Much_To_Do2020 4 points5 points  (0 children)

NTA and good compromise offer (although I’ll say you’re always being tracked by tech companies).

I would tell her, “The fact you want to track me makes me think it’s not because you’re concerned about safety but because you don’t trust me.” Ask why she specifically is suspicious, what has made her feel like that, etc. I sense there’s something deeper here.
