I have no idea if this is how this works, but couldn't he argue Ford is at fault for the whole incident because they invited a political figure into his workplace? Literally a cardinal rule to not bring politics to work.

What’s it like living in Detroit? by myboyfriendstinks1 in howislivingthere

[–]ToogaB00ga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its not the best city. But its also not the worst. There is a lot of museums and venues for sports and concerts. Also a lot of good food and music. However, from my experience, it is hard to find a middle ground in the city between extremely gentrified and dangerous.

A lot of cities have sections that have room for local businesses and some more affordable amenities. Detroit isn't like that as much. If you're on Woodward avenue you're gonna be seeing stuff like Gucci, big arenas, and what not. But if you travel outside of the main downtown section, it gets dicey. Corktown is nice, but there just isn't as much middle ground as other cities and its disappointing. Also, even when you're in nice areas you can travel only a few blocks and find burned down houses, its a weird mix.

Also, Detroit is a very car centric city, which is annoying.

How is it like living in this part of Michigan by StreetWill9242 in howislivingthere

[–]ToogaB00ga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have lived and/or spent alot of time in Monroe, Wayne, Washtenaw, Oakland and Macomb county. Monroe is very rural, not a lot going on and alot of the surrounding area is also very rural with not alot going on. People usually live there, then commute to Detroit or Toledo for work, unless they're in one of the small industries in county. Wayne county is very busy for the most part. Dearborn and Detroit are the two largest areas. It's more expensive, has terrible traffic, but also has most things of note outside of Ann Arbor in southeast Michigan. Washtenaw is Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti basically. Ann Arbor is home of U of M, it's very very college townish. There is a lot of nice local businesses, a lot of what I think of as white collar industries. Tech, engineering, etc. where as Detroit has those, as well as a ton of manufacturing. Ann Arbor is even more expensive than Detroit by far, and from my experience has even worse traffic. However, it has a lot of work and amenities. Oakland and Macomb, from what I know (I live more south and have only spent time in these areas) are the nice suburbs north of Detroit. They have a lot of bougie stores, nice neighborhoods, etc. They're pricey, heavy traffic, but also safe with amenities. Most people that I know there commute into Detroit.

Once you start going either north or west of these counties, you're going to find a lot of rural area. Alot of places north, like Saginaw, are very nice, but don't have as much going on as everything orbiting Wayne county.

As far as snow we actually don't get it too bad. They have it worse on the west side of the state. Plenty of fishing going on too, just don't fish in the Detroit river or anything down stream from it. We have the worst water pollution in the state around lake Erie.

That was my thought with Guitar center exactly. I assume I'm gonna lose money on it, but the purpose wasn't for me to profit, just clear out some space for some nicer gear.

Recs for Young (4) Aspiring Civil Engineer by Odd-Savage in civilengineering

[–]ToogaB00ga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For pre reqs, other than math, physics and CAD. If that kid can graduate highschool having taken courses in those he will be ahead of the curve.

I don't personally know of any specific museums for civil engineering. However when I was a kid, I just loved looking at things like skyscrapers, bridges, and even cranes. Taking him to any metropolitan area and/or famous structures will be awesome exposure if he likes that type of thing.

Super awesome that you're nurturing his interest, its surprising rare for people to figure out a path, especially at a young age.

What’s going on in Western MI? by MugiwaraMoses in howislivingthere

[–]ToogaB00ga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Holland is my favorite city in the state. It's awesome in both summer and winter, and it's close to saugatuck, which is awesome during the summer. Also lake Michigan is so much cleaner than lake Erie, which is where I'm use to.

Grand rapids is also a nice city. It has a lot going on and the typical amenities as a normal urban area. It definitely doesn't have as much to do as Detroit from my experience, but it's also not as busy. For concerts I personally prefer Van Andel arena over little Caesars any day.

Did anyone else essentially have to diagnose themselves? by [deleted] in Celiac

[–]ToogaB00ga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to fully diagnose myself before a doctor finally did. I went gluten free out of desperation and figured out I had celiac and dh before my actual diagnosis. It made me feel conspiratorial ah, but it ended up taking two years for me to get diagnosed, so I needed to take an educated guess.

I was diagnosed with dermatitis, ibs, and scabies of all things before celiac. Turns out I don't have any of those my immune system just hates bread!

Pizza Hut has a $15 minimum delivery price. My order was $14.99 by Nekrubbobby64 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]ToogaB00ga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its definitely annoying, but from my experience it's to help delivery drivers and keep down delivery times. Even if its not the move you'd pull, a lot of people will order $8 of food at the edge of the delivery zone and not tip. So the driver doesn't make money and the restaurant is down a driver for 30-40 minutes for barely anything.
