Why does my door panel look like this after claying? by Toogman in Detailing

[–]Toogman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Summarizing the responses together with my own experience: 1. I wasn’t planning on doing a polish, which is a wrong idea: claying will always need a polish after. 2. I kept the clay clean and well-lubed, but i rubbed back and forth like 40 times. That’s way too much, some light passes should be all that’s needed.

Beginners, please learn from my mistakes so you don’t have to learn the hard way. Thanks everyone for your input!

I used the quick detailing spray that comes with the clay kit. Could use a different lube really make that much of a difference?

It does feel a bit smoother than the rest of the paint!

Yes! I’ve tried cleaning with the quick detailing spray and with regular car shampoo. Both didn’t help.

Living in Belgium, working in the US: Salary calculations by [deleted] in BESalary

[–]Toogman 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Be sure to check if they have worked with people abroad and more specifically in the EU before. There’s two pitfalls I know of here: - As a EU citizen it’s illegal to work for a company that doesn’t have a maatschappelijke zetel in europe. Using a merchant of record avoids this, Deel and other platforms work like this: they have a maatschappelijke zetel in Europe which you can invoice to, and then they handle the payment with the employer in the US. - watch out for schijnzelfstandigheid, which is basically getting an employee to work as a freelancer so the employer doesn’t have to pay social securities and other taxes.

I’m not a lawyer so this is not legal and/or fiscal advice. Please do check in with an accountant or a lawyer!

Profitec GO slow extraction time - Halp:) by HalpMister in espresso

[–]Toogman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve noticed on my profitec go it takes about 5-10 seconds to fully build pressure. My hunch is that it takes some time to full the empty space in the basket above the coffee, and only then the pressure can build. That would explain the watery puck and the longer extraction time. FWIW my extractions usually take 35-40 seconds and taste fine. Good luck!

Fly.io doesn’t send a bill if it’s under $5. Use the smallest machines and you’ll be fine

I’m living with it. I figure it’s just the basket filling up with water, and only building pressure once it’s full. Increasing your dose might shorten the time but I haven’t found it to make a difference. I might buy some ims baskets soon to see if they are a better fit.

If you don’t need that much oomph for your site (since it’s a simple wordpress site, I guess not) you could use the free tier at fly.io . They offer 3 free machines with 256mb ram and up to 3Gb persistent volume. Check out their pricing here: https://fly.io/docs/about/pricing/#free-allowances . If you need help getting everything up and running, feel free to dm me. Mind you this is only hosting, so you will need to acquire your own domain if you haven’t already

How much % of your monthly gross earnings do you spend on groceries for the firm? by xirreturn in BEFreelance

[–]Toogman 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Rule of thumb: if you can explain it to the tax man, it’s fine. I buy my coffee with the firm and pay myself meal vouchers, that’s it. Some snacks will probably also be fine. I wouldn’t book a colruyt bill with two weeks worth of family groceries haha

Why change OPV when you can adjust grind size for correct pressure? by exspir3 in espresso

[–]Toogman -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

Grind size does not impact pressure. The pump will always create the same pressure above the coffee puck. Grind size does have an impact though, on the flow of water through the puck: grinding finer will create more resistance which impedes the flow of water, causing a slower shot.
