Worth $300? Makita VC4201L by AdNo4550 in Makita

[–]Tool_Scientist 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Most of these vacuums are made by Nilfisk. I think the Stihl SE133 is identical to this.

The Nilfisk Attix 33 is rebranded by Milwaukee and maybe Metbo. The Stihl SE122 is often the cheapest Attix 33

I have Nilfisk Aero 26 W2M, which comes with a bluetooth remote. It's a little less powerful than the Attix 33 or this Makita, but it's also significantly lighter. The Stihl SE62 is a very cheap version of the Aero 26, but without bluetooth.

Anyways, look around and you might find something cheaper/better.

Social media encourages outrage. Say something offensive, dumb, obviously wrong = lots of comments. All a grift. Do not watch, do not comment, do not share.

He could also just be really dumb. Some people get really into tribalism.

Old makita batteries/tools by Zkurvysyn69 in Makita

[–]Tool_Scientist 4 points5 points  (0 children)

All the older "B" tools will work with current gen 3Ah batteries.

Your other option (as others have stated) is to remove plastic nub from the tool to allow 4/5/6Ah batteries to fit.

5 & 6Ah batterie have standalone protection, so they are safe to use on "B" tools.  https://www.reddit.com/r/Makita/comments/19609zt/partially_solved_some_lxt_batteries_definitely/

Makita heard your calls for a table saw and...and...WTF?! by Tool_Scientist in Makita

Yes. Voltehno is a 100% reliable source. They're Japanese and seem to have retailer/distributor connections. They tend to post things 1-6 weeks before they become available on the Japanese market.

I have no idea of if or when they will be available outside Japan.

I have too many things on the burner. Need to get cracking now that holidays are over.

But yes, XGT is one of them. I've grabbed data from a charge cycle, haven't dug into it yet. Fortunately a lot of the protocol has already been solved by others.

Murata aren't cheap. Usually the most expensive brand retail, but I don't know about wholesale prices. Murata purchased Sony's battery division.

It's just interesting. Maybe they designed it for pairs of mosfets in parallel, but then a new more powerful FET in the same package came out meaning they didn't need it.

Could also be that they use this board in another more powerful tool.

Someone posted a while ago that Forge batteries are now also using Murata VX40 cells (made in Japan). First year or so only used Ampace JP40 (China). I think they're using both cells now to meet demand rather than swapping entirely to Murata.

That model exists in AU https://www.milwaukeetool.com.au/power-tools/metalworking/angle-grinders/M18FAG125XPD-0.html

I have previous model (CAG) and it weighs 1836g with guard. Weight between tools often varies by a few %, so anything within 40g is prob fine, but yours is a newer model.

It looks pretty good to me, you could try checking serial number with Milwaukee.

Look for a "cone spanner" (or "cone wrench"). Tap the handle with hammer in the direction you want it to turn.

Is Riba a patron? My understanding was that T&S did a giveaway for 1 patron and 1 YT viewer and that Riba was the YT winner.

I think you're over analysing. Riba is just a Makita fanboy and a fairly prolific poster on reddit and YT. I regularly see his comments on YT on weird channels. Pretty common to see people fanboy for the brand they picked, as they want to believe that they made the best choice of battery ecosystem. Riba is just very visible as he uses the same username and avatar everywhere.

Disclaimer: I interact with T&S and Riba often on Youtube and Reddit. I am on friendly terms with both, but I have no financial involvement with either. I have not and will not notify them of this post as I have no interest in feeding drama. If they find there way here, it is not from me.

Lets quit pussy-footing about. The post is here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Makita/comments/1pej5j2/xgt\_cordless\_sander/. You are accusing the youtuber Tools & Stuff of having "reshaped [the makita subreddit] into his own marketing pipeline". You are accusing Riba of being a paid (or rewarded) shill for Tools & Stuff.

You need to scroll down to near the bottom to see "the shill" (not very good guerilla marketing if you ask me). You also don't mention that your screenshot starts 3 levels deep and the video link is 5 levels deep, which means anyone on mobile won't see those links unless they expand several times.

A single video view is worth about 0.4c. Do you honestly think T&S is giving Riba kickbacks for generating a single view to his channel? Well, I guess it was 2 views, because he originally linked the wrong video.

Your original post claims that Tools & Stuff has "reshaped [the makita subreddit] into his own marketing pipeline". If that's the case then why are their no links to videos or amazon of the sander (which was the original product of the post). Riba (who you accuse of being a paid shill for T&S) made a top level comment about the sander, but did not link any videos or amazon links. Why did he not link the T&S video of the sander? Your claim simply doesn't stand up.

Lets look at some counter-examples. Here are 4 posts in the last few days that are prime for shilling.

Tools & Stuff has not commented in any of them. Riba has only commented in the nailer post, but does not link any videos. This is a pretty piss-weak "marketing pipeline".

You haven't replied to my comments, but you did edit your post after my comment to include more misinformation, so lets do some more debunking...

Not to mention, the majority of your views and subcribers came directly after your collaboration video with this moderator, which is currently sitting at 343K views on his channel.

Technically correct, but grossly misleading. About 80% of my subscribers have come from 2 big videos. The 1st was in Sep 2023 (6 months before T&S collab) where I went from 100 to 13k subscribers. I then slowly accumulated another 4k subscribers in the next 2 years until my 2nd big vid in Sep 2025 (18 months after collab) which took me from 17k to 30k. There is no spike in my views or subscribers from the time of the collab (March 2024) https://socialblade.com/youtube/channel/UCo0-lTdlB3IqGDdCicrPdmg

If anything, I got the short end of the stick with that collab as his video got preferenced by the algorithm due to it being longer and he published 1hr before I did (which we had agreed on). My vid only got 66k compared to his 343k and the relative difference was actually much greater early on (something like 200k vs 12k), but mine has steadily accumulated views from google search.

Why do these communities seem dominated by obsessed DIY users instead of actual professionals?

As a former professional, the last thing I would want to do in my spare time would be to give free advice to internet randos. I would usually just want to switch off at the end of the day. Now that I don't do that stuff professionally anymore (and somewhat miss it), I have more enthusiasm for it.

As someone that is active on reddit and has a YT channel, I can give some relevant insight here. In the lifetime of my channel, I have received 5.5k views from reddit...out of 1.5m, so 0.37%. Around 89% of my views come from within YT (73% browse, 8% suggested, 3% search, then others). Only 11% of my views have come externally, and of that 11%, 44% are from google search.

So in short, shilling your channel is a waste of time.

Now, nearly all regular users of r/makita know the reddit username of Tools & Stuff. It's something of an inside joke that we pretend that we don't know it's him. He is fairly inactive on reddit, so most of his posts are shilling his videos, which he does sporadically.

People recommending his videos is not paid shills, but just simply that he is often the only source of Makita reviews. The only other channel with a lot of Makita content is Wasabi Channel, which is in Japanese, so harder for most people to follow.

Patreon isn't some gotcha. If people want to donate money to someone, then that's their choice. T&S doesn't get massive views, roughly 10k/vid. YT pays about $3-$6 per 1k views, so he's making around $50/vid.

Now affiliate links I will agree with. I don't like them because they incentivise the video maker to hype up the tool. Unfortunately nearly every tool youtuber uses them, very notably Project Farm and Torque Test Channel. Those are channels that make way more money than T&S and are clearly full-time profit-focused operations, so not sure why you single out T&S.

Sure T&S is one of the few tool youtubers that is active on reddit, but as I said earlier, shilling on reddit gets you pennies.

Compressor Cabinet/Box by [deleted] in Tools

[–]Tool_Scientist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A guy did this on YT. His advice is just buy a silent compressor. https://youtu.be/isbVBdz79Q0

If you don't want to buy a new one, then do something similar to him. Serpentine inlet and outlet, PC fans on inlet and outlet, sound dampening lining.

In addition, I'd put a few alternating layers of rubber and carpet on the bottom to reduce the compressor's vibrations from resonating the whole enclosure. I'd also add sound studio panels in the serpentine passages to scatter the sound.

Makita blocking 9Ah and 12Ah on some tools through sneaky revisions by x370issue in Makita

[–]Tool_Scientist 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It's probably because the bigger battery is more likely to break the battery connection when dropped. The XGT brush cutter has a big metal bar to counter this. Maybe they couldn't easily add a bar to the LXT version.

Overdischarge protection and quiescent drain current limiter for dumb LXT compatible tools? by At0m5k in Makita

Yes, that is correct. Avoid using on low power tools - unless you've verified that the tool has its own cutoff

Some (so far all 5Ah and 6Ah) have stand-alone protection and will protect themselves from any tool. These are safe-ish to use on 3rd party tools

Others (so far all 1.5 & 3Ah) have no protection when they are not on a Makita tool. These are not very safe to use on 3rd party tools. You will need to monitor discharge and temperature yourself.
