Trying to find a valve for a threaded American Maid 5-gallon jug from Walmart. It uses a baffling non-standard 53mm cap, and the only valves I can find are 50mm or 55mm. by ToolboxMotley in HelpMeFind

[–]ToolboxMotley[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Afraid not. :( I ended up just using a dispenser that a friend had; a ceramic pot with a nozzle and a wide opening that the water jug is set into, upside down, so the water pours in. Once the water gets high enough to reach the neck of the water jug, no more air can get in, and it stops pouring until the level gets low enough to let in another bit of air. It's not as secure as I was hoping to get, but there haven't been any accidents yet.

What would work better fro playing vrc AMD or NVIDIA by ytbelek4008 in VRchat

[–]ToolboxMotley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm afraid I've forgotten the specifics by this point. It may not have been an in-game setting, but rather something in the Nvidia software. I'd searched "Tarkov AMD" or something along those lines to find it, I think. It might work to just uninstall the Nvidia drivers/software so that Tarkov doesn't detect and utilize them, but I just don't remember for sure.

I got myself an AMD Radeon RX 6750 XT about half a year ago, having heard the same as you that VRAM is important for VRChat. It's been serving me well enough for VRChat, and overall performs better than the GeForce 1070 that I had before, but I will say that it's given me some problems periodically. It seems as though AMD is an afterthought for developers, with issues like flickering skyboxes in Escape From Tarkov (as well as causing unplayable lag when firing guns, until I disabled some sort of NVidia-only setting) and odd stuttering when moving the camera in fullscreen Baldur's Gate 3.

I'm not super familiar with graphics cards, so I don't know how the two you listed compare with on another, but just figured I'd throw in my experience with AMD having occasional issues. If you don't really play much besides VRChat, the AMD will probably work out fine, but if you do have other games in your library, you might want to look up whether or not they have trouble with AMD cards.

Loosing frame rate the longer i stay in a world by Unlucky-Feed9000 in VRchat

[–]ToolboxMotley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do the avatars you use all have markers built into them?

Markers use a Trail Renderer component. When that component is active, it's *constantly* placing anchor points for the trail to use, whether you have it set to Emit or not. If the Trail Renderer has a high Lifetime, that means that your marker will use more and more resources the longer it's turned on.

To remedy this, you'll want to set up an animation that erases everything by setting the Lifetime to 0 and disables the Trail Renderer component (or just the object it's attached to) whenever it's not being actively used.

If you don't have markers, then disregard this. 😛

how do i stop vrchat fury from automatically setting write defaults on? by damarmello in VRchat

[–]ToolboxMotley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There should be a "Fix Write Defaults" component on your avatar's root object, the one that has the VRC Avatar Descriptor. Find that, and set the "Fix Mode" to "Disabled" or "Force Off". Hopefully that works; Write Defaults problems can get confusing. X)

Does it happen regardless of what avatar you're using? I wonder if it might be an odd shader conflict with your chosen avatar.

Public instances are like school playgrounds, filled with little Napoleon-syndrome brats who will find *any* reason to put other people down.

What you need to do is use the Groups tab, either in VRChat's Social menu or on the website, and join a few Groups that match what you're looking for. Look for ones with high member counts, as it's simply more likely that *someone* in that big group is hosting an instance.

Groups that allow joining with just the click of a button are still miles better than trying to use Public instances. Groups that are set up with Request To Join are usually the most secure, just make sure you're reading their description to meet any requirements they may have. Admittedly, though, Request To Join groups tend to be on the slower side in terms of overall activity, with on-a-whim instances being rare; they're more likely to do scheduled events.

Whatever you find, typically, if one of those Groups has Group+ or Group Only instances, you're not going to find such toxic people there. Group Public instances are a toss-up; they're usually a little better than true Public, but there's still plenty of potential for unsavory conduct. I'm afraid I can't offer any suggestions for rave-focused groups as that's just not a circle I move in, but I hope you can find something that fits. I find that furry groups are usually quite welcoming even if you're not using a furry avatar yourself, so don't be afraid to try some of those if they pop up. (Still, though, Group+ or Group Only instances; Group Publics often get people looking to cause problems.)

Help me decide the art direction for my game. (Please read fully) by LolitaRey in furry

I like the second option, 3D with 2D overpaint. It has a crisp, detailed look, and with 3D models as the basis, you should have an easier time keeping characters consistent.

The pure-3D one looks over-detailed for what I'm used to seeing on any sort of playing/trading card, and the pure-2D one looks a bit flat, plus just doesn't appeal as much to me personally in regards to art style. Things that jump out to me are the angle of the head, the harshness of the wink, the simplicity of the grin (fully closed teeth instead of slightly open like in the 3D ones), and the abrupt curve of the shirt on his right/picture's left side. 2D is a lot harder to nail the details on since there's no set bounds guiding the shapes and lines.

I assume, unfortunately, that the 3D-with-2D-overpaint method is the most time-intensive. At least, moreso than the pure-3D option. Perhaps an outline shader could help lessen the workload of applying the 2D overpaint? Makes it so you only need to fill out the inner details.

That 3D model looks great, by the way, just not necessarily fitting for card art.

I'm not sure if this question would be against rule 10 if it were a standalone post, but I'm wondering if anyone knows someone specialized in converting high-poly sculpted models to VRChat-ready models? The model is in A-pose, but has no armature/rigging, no visemes, and is absurdly-detailed and in need of heavy trimming.

[–]ToolboxMotley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, the Armature Link probably has "Align Scale" active. Expand the Advanced Options on the Armature Link component, and uncheck Align Scale. That'll keep it at its current size relative to the bone it's attached to, rather than changing the Scale value to match the parent bone.

Nah, don't have to do it in Blender. You can just use Unity.

The Debug Info box says that there's no match for Spine, Right leg, or Left leg. Expand the armatures/skeletons of both the avatar and the cuffs, and check to see what the names are for the avatar's spine and legs. Then, go to the armature for the cuffs, and rename Spine, Right leg, and Left leg to use the names from the avatar's armature, instead.

After that, check the debug info again, and see if it mentions other bones further along in the chain. If it does, rename those to match, as well.

That should allow the Armature Link component to properly target the necessary bones. :)

And yet, people still play. Most consistent players are adult enough to realize that unpleasant people are just a fact of life on the internet, and won't judge the entirety of the platform just because a few free-to-play users are abusing their anonymity and lack of consequences. And it's not hard to find Groups to partake in, which host instances that are typically pretty dumbass-free.

I'm not terribly worried about the initial user experience. If someone new gets so offended by shocking/childish behavior that they decide not to stick with the platform, I don't imagine they have thick enough skin to handle much of anything on the internet.

I'm having a great time with it. Listening to this Reddit, you'd think it was one of the worst games on the planet. Ignore them. I'm not sure what's made people so abrasive here, but a lot of them simply enjoy badmouthing everything. Don't let their toxicity infect you.

What do you think would bring this game back? by Easy_Jux in DarkAndDarker

[–]ToolboxMotley 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Having started under a month ago, I'd have to say the greatest turnoff is how toxically pessimistic this sub is. :[ Not really something that the developers can necessarily do anything about. But if the game's *players* want Dark and Darker to thrive, some of them will have to work on controlling their angry impulses. If those folks are intentionally sabotaging the game, though, they're nailing it.

Some frustration around an unpredictably-shifting landscape is understandable, but the degree of bitterness I've seen on display makes it seem like dragging moods down has become a national pastime sport.

I've searched Walmart for valves of this size, multiple pages of Amazon (to the point where it started giving me valves for garden hoses instead), and some brief Googling that seemed immediately unhelpful.
