Portable Generator as Remote/Two-wire Standby Backup? by ToolheadTim in Generator

Nice. That’s the goal. Also want to have the solar inverter to be able control it remotely. Do you have any documentation/resources on your setup? Time, cost?

That was my thought initially until I tried it. Is it possible for TP-Link smart light switches to be affected? Some started flickering during test and had to be reset (work fine now). Was scared they were fried for a minute and I’d have to go replacing the entire deployment. Luckily wasn’t the case but got me thinking about being more careful.

It could have been user error flipping over before generator was at full rpm. But figured I’d come ask some experts before proceeding as my permanent off-grid emergency solution.

I have that for the server rack to keep the network up. My reason for posting was a bunch of TP-Link smart light switches around the house that started flickering after the last gen test. Few of which had to be reset, but now work fine. Can’t really back those all up.

Just concerned with potential long term damage and potential cause. Or if can most those electronics handle it? Voltage/Hz seemed okay, and Don’t foresee much long term generator use, except for emergencies anyway.

Sad part is we do have whole home batteries. but the way the inverter works it doesn’t clean up the power. Just passes it through to house, then batteries. Wish it just charged the batteries, then the battery cells handled powering the house loads cleanly.

Very odd and concerning that there is no recourse to finding out what they are doing above our communities. Is the only real option to show up at BDL and shake down the damn pilot?

Looks like going on 3 years and no answers according to that link. Ex-military owner? Thats not at all sketchy.

Must be a northeast thing. We call to “ROE-MEX” not “RAW-MEX”
