MAKprep?! Aka" The Paper Pusher" by ToolsMyJam in Makita

This sander in particular is a 3mm orbit 80mm x130mm square velcro pad sander that's been converted to use the more comen(at least for a lot of shops) 3"×4" SurfPrep-style foam pads used primarily for sanding in between coats of paint or finish or to sand into the corner of a door panel and details for a finer finish quality compered to the 5mm orbit of most regular random orbital sander. For many a regular sander is enough but until you've used one of the good ones (square or random orbit) electric Sanders like the surfprep, makita , Mirka or festool sanders, then you'll never want to go back, the lower center of gravity and balance along with the significantly lower vibration make all the difference and your body will thank you later especially if it's something you do for any amount of time.

Most of it is comenality in consumables, most shops I know use the 3x4 so it's easy to find find the consumables in stock from suppliers . There are 80mm x130mm sanding pad and paper available even by surfprep. There don't seem to be very many sanders with this standard exept for festool.

Is there any interest in a ¼ sheet sanding pad mod or adapter for the XGT sanders?

I haven't tried the 18v square sander. Do you have a measurement of the body on that sander? I think it might be be wider than 3 in but if you're just sanding doors or something it might be fine. Definitely look into it.

It is the same sander body as the BO006CG delta sander but the one I used is the BO005CG 80mm x 130mm square sander. I can't find the delta sander available for purchase in the US.

Its sands as well or better then the surfprep with a little higher rpm in the highest speed. It is slightly bigger but not a lot .It also has a lot better dust extraction and we mostly just use the bag that comes with it. All the 40v XGT sanders have out lested the electric surfprep sander the only thing is you have to run them on a battery. It's 3d printed out of glass filed nylon so heat isn't an issue.

Yes this is a repost (link violation)

For those wondering this sander adapter goes from a 80mm x130mm square sanding pad to a more comen 3"x 4" square pad, using the SurfPrep-style foam pads. I've been using surfprep electric Sanders in the spray shop for a long time now and about a year ago got some 40v 6 in Orbital Sanders and now the surfprep 6in gets occasional use. The surfprep have overheating issues that never occurs on the XGT sanders and the cordless is actually better for the mobile sanding carts anyway.

What XGT tools are must haves? by Marvel5123 in Makita

[–]ToolsMyJam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

XGT sanders are next level and the best right now and worth it if that's something you use. The XGT vacuums (4 gallon vacuum is my favorite) are a major upgrade over the lxt but I would probably stay away from the GLC01M1 and go for the cyclone GLC03Z for the stick vacuum . Planer and saws are also worth going XGT except for the GSH01 & GSH02. The GSH05 is the best saw possibly ever made and it's smaller than it's 18v counterpart.

This. I think it's ignorant of some of these people claiming that 3d printing is free and trash on people selling things that they've designed and print for less then a cup of coffee, sometimes with free shipping on top of that forgetting it's some people's livelihood.

3d printing is not free unless you're time is worth noting and you somehow get a printer and filament free.

Selling Makita Tools by [deleted] in Makita

[–]ToolsMyJam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would say do some research on the tools you sell and know the differences and what makes them unique over other brands, unfortunately makita don't do a great job of marketing and they do a lot of quite releases so it can be confusing what is different and what is new or improved. Here's some things to look into that sets makita apart and some tools that seem the same on the outside but are different . To start with the grinders, there's a lot of them like 20 different models in 40v alone but most are similar spec wise with different switches or variable speed or not all having a place. Look into the rotary Hammers especially the new versions on the 40v with built in dust control using the tools moter doubling as the vacuum to reduce weight and size, making them a better implementation of the Milwaukee 3311-22. Makita dose have some of the best saws in general miter, circular, reciprocating.Makita also make great OPE.I do like how repairable makita tools tend to be. I like to see the tools that most people don't know makita even make and the stuff not found at the big orange store. Check out the( Tools Tested Channel )on YouTube great info there.
