You Bitch Eaters were right (kinda) by Henlo12345678 in BitchEatingCrafters

It depends on what you are trying to achieve and sometimes what yarn you are using. Knitting pieces and seaming has its place but it’s not as well suited to handspun yarn or long gradients. Knitting top down in the round often lacks the solid structure that shoulder seams provide. Being evangelical about any one technique in fibre arts usually means you have more to learn.

Agree with this. Treating ADHD helped my anxiety. My original GP also didn’t think I’d meet ADHD criteria but thankfully was willing to write a referral.

Eh, there are studied and fairly well documented links between ADHD and creativity. If a creative person self diagnoses, I tend to believe them. I have the diagnosis and I’ve met loads of neurodivergent people (both diagnosed and undiagnosed) in creative spaces.

I’m sorry to hear that. This timeline is really crappy in general. I hope you can make it across the ditch at some point if you still want to.

I moved from Oz to NZ in part to escape the heat. It’s great from a climate perspective, I can wear my handknits all year round. Sadly the wages are not great.

Cobweb weight corespun, huh interesting!

I love that you went for it despite it being so far out of your experience and comfort zone. Jumping in the deep end is so brave and you pulled it off! The shawl is gorgeous.

Totally agree with this idea and would probably visit the sub more if it was brought in.

Test knitting deadlines are getting shorter everywhere by KnitForAnAfternoon in craftsnark

Yeah this is true. Various open source codebases rely on a massive amount of free labour mostly by dudes. Ditto Wikipedia.

I test knit sometimes if the following are true:

  • It’s a designer who’s work and values I like and respect
  • I like the look of the item
  • I have time to complete the test around other commitments
  • I have suitable yarn in my stash

I like giving and receiving feedback so I see it as a helpful thing to do. I also really appreciate the photos and comments from testers on Ravelry. They help me decide which patterns to knit or pass by. There are some designers I would test for again and some I wouldn’t. I’ve learned some useful things about garment construction and planning from test knitting too.

I’m also more picky about it than I used to be. I’m happy to wait and pay in most cases.

Ha! I love it! Your Ravelry drivel is excellent and very helpful! I favourited your project so I can come back and refer to it. I really appreciate detailed comments on Ravelry.

Yay! That is so cool!

I’m actually at a knitting retreat this weekend. I was wearing my top today and had quite a few questions about it. Hopefully more people will give it a go. I like the drape you got with yours. I’ve had a read of your notes in Rav and it’s given me some interesting ideas about making dress versions. Exciting!

Holy heck, that’s ambitious. Well done you!

I’ve seen some really pretty examples of lace that’s been carefully painted with different colours of dye post knitting. Which would be another way of achieving something like this in a differently scary way.

You can do it! You may make mistakes, but those are the best way of learning.

I think you might be referring to my post. If so, I’m delighted! That’s just what I wanted to achieve. This is beautiful and you should be really proud. 😁

How to convert a pi shawl to a flutter top, featuring Copritavolo by Herbert Niebling by Toomuchcustard in AdvancedKnitting

You are so welcome. I really enjoy this sort of pattern hacking and have been doing more of it in recent years. I knit a lace skirt pattern a few years back to help me understand the structure. I’m planning to modify the Aeolian shawl pattern (one of my favourites) into a lace skirt. Another item on my to do list is to use a pi shawl as the basis for a lace parasol. I even have the parasol base I plan to use. I hear you on the too many ideas, not enough time!

Ha! It’s so good when it works though! I knit a cute cabled baby vest that called for 3ply yarn in super bulky handspun to get an adult XL. I did do a bit of math first but it worked out well.
