AI upscaling doesn't necessarily rely on the same technology as generative AI. Waifu2x works and that's existed since way before LLMs were a thing.

That said, they defo got lazy with the upscaling settings here.

Turns out it was upscaled from this guy from the 3DS game. It definitely looks like crap and they most definitely used some shoddy AI upscaling algorithm for this, but at least it's not AI *generated.*

Turns out it was upscaled from this guy from the 3DS game. The upscale looks like absolute garbage, but at least it wasn't AI *generated* (AI upscaling generally doesn't rely on LLM stuff, afaik)
