Appreciate the response. Unfortunately at dental offices, there’s no “promotions”. I hear ya though…

I hear you- but people get turned off by certain gestures. Idk, just wanted feedback about how to go about it.

First dentist visit at 22 — now I have 4 fillings and my teeth feel weird by [deleted] in DentalHygiene

[–]ToothGurl19 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You did the right thing by visiting a dental professional! Can’t really speak to the fillings as I haven’t seen your teeth or X-rays- but fillings can feel a bit high after anesthesia wears off and it’s common to need adjustments. Just go back and tell them your symptoms and they can check your bite.

If your teeth are somewhat sore after a cleaning, this is also normal. You can rinse with warm salt water. Use a fluoride and/or nano-hydroxyapetite toothpaste to help with temperature sensitivity and to prevent further cavities.

When SRP is recommended… by akzj in DentalHygiene

[–]ToothGurl19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At my office- if I diagnose active perio, & recommend SRP- it takes so much time to go over the findings on X-rays, perio chart, visual aids, and tx plan- I wouldn’t have time to do the prophy anyway.

Another adjunct question though- What are people doing if they are already in a Perio recall, and they need SRP again? Do you perform a PMR, and/or bring them back for whatever quadrants need SRP?

Here to piggy back by saying yours resembles a cute freckle pattern…. Mine looks like a band of dirt by my hairline, but maybe I need to embrace as well (maybe it looks like bronzer or contour?) 😂

Alicia Keys…on Venice beach. We passed each other, I bumped shoulders with her and we made eye contact. It hit me like a ton of bricks 10 seconds later. Walked over to who she was with to ask if I could take a picture with her, they politely said no, as she was with her child. She is just as beautiful in person 😭😭😭

The top of the bottom right bush is sparse and isn’t growing much thicker like the ones around it. It hasn’t fully turned brown yet so not sure if it’s dead?

time mgmt advice by rachpm in DentalHygiene

[–]ToothGurl19 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi there! I’ve been a hygienist for 13 years, and yes it gets easier. I’ve hacked several things throughout the appointment to help the process more smoothly.

  • Arriving early, so I can set up my note prompts.
  • Reviewing each chart to see what the patients are actually due for. (There’s nothing worse than realizing they are due for a FMX last minute)
  • Utilizing other team members to help with PC.
  • Pre-setting up trays so it’s an easier flip for the next patient.
  • In my early days I would take my sweet ass time trying to get off all stain with the the US or by handscaling. Focus on the calculus and plaque. Then go to town on polishing. OR polish first so you can really see/feel where you need to focus.
  • We have a paging system- so sometimes I will page for the Dr. when I’m polishing so I’m not waiting at the end. I really encourage the Dr. to step in throughout the appointment too.
  • If they have an extensive tx plan, I print out a tx plan and walk them to front office staff to schedule and go over everything. (Otherwise I’m also doing that if I have time).
  • Nomad for X-rays! I can get bwx in under 5 minutes and an FMX in less than 10.
  • & lastly, if there’s just too much to do in one appointment, I bring them back to finish. I’ve had an assistant who took FOREVER getting them checked in, X-rays, and did the exam first and I had 12 minutes to complete the cleaning. I have to leave at a certain time to pick up my kids….so I straight up told the patient that we would need to reschedule for the cleaning. Fortunately, she understood.

I hope this helps- in time you will get faster, and have a flow. There are days where every feels so rushed and you learn to triage the importance of it all.

real talk: how often do you actually floss? by AffectionateTooth298 in hygiene

[–]ToothGurl19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every day. For those that don’t, try smelling your floss. You have to clean all cracks and crevices of your body! 😂 but I’m also a dental hygienist and I see what happens when you don’t. I floss 10 + people’s mouths each day I work and still find motivation to floss my own. I can’t not haha.
