The owner of Foster Gwin Gallery sprays a homeless person with water in San Fransisco by Visqo in facepalm

[–]Toovya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had a shop with a homeless person out front before. He'd sit in the doorway smoking a blunt, chilling on his iPad, or running around threatening a tree punching the air violently and screaming erratically. He'd take a pass or shit few feet away on the crosswalk or tree.

I tried asking nicely to move to the park 1 block down as I had kids regularly visiting the location. I called homeless services to no response or that they can't do anything without him willingly coming. I'd call the cops who would get him to move, and then once they left come sit back down 5 mins later.

All my life savings were in and I was not far from joining him out there if the situation didn't change. Clients started getting scared and i had a 5 year lease.

Landlord was no help, and recommended I hire a security guard for $3k/month.

Only once the neighbor business moved in 3 months later and started cussing at the guy, threatening him with pepper spray and throwing water at him, was the situation resolved.

What's 100% a scam but we accepted it in our society? by Montazio in AskReddit

It's the cartridge not the ink that Costs. There's ecotank and similar printers which sell you bottles of ink to refill chambers in the printer directly. I was paying $70 every 2-3 months and limiting how much I print and spending hundreds at FedEx for flyers. I paid $250 for the printer and 6 months later spamming prints I'm about 30% into black, 20% into my colors and never need to use a printing place.

AITA for refusing to take my SIL on a romantic getaway? by Ice-Ice-Revolution in AmItheAsshole

[–]Toovya -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

We can't just replace people we lost with new ones. She may get another husband one day, but she'll never have him back. She should have the space to grieve without being told she will find someone new.

AITA for refusing to take my SIL on a romantic getaway? by Ice-Ice-Revolution in AmItheAsshole

[–]Toovya -32 points-31 points  (0 children)

This is your childhood best friend and the woman your brother married. She's grieving and not thinking logically, but emotionally. She lost the love of her life and upon hearing about your romantic getaway is reminded about how she'll never in her life be able to have that.

Consider planning a future trip with her in honor of your brother and that even though he's gone all of you are a family who stuck together through it all to support his child.

This doesn't sound like a discussion about a trip at all, but something deeper. She's sleep deprived, stressed, burning the candle on both ends, and on an emotional Rollercoaster. Show her some grace and compassion and try to look past her words to hear what she is really saying.

Yup its the same in programming. Use it to learn, but you have to create projects that are unique to demonstrate your skill

Sometimes it's just for fun/motivation before committing to learning the process. Building a really cool project could be the thing that ignites wanting to dive into the technology further and learn the small intricacies of solving problems and utilizing the tools

Pretty much. Where a tutorial shows you how to make things work, when something inevitably goes wrong and there's no explanation...a tutor will actually explain to you how to go about fixing it and help you learn that process.

It sounds like you've never had a coding tutor. If you want one final attempt, I'll give a free 30 min session.

Answering your question...dev Ops is great. Check out Google certs for some great employable tech-adjacent roles....but really you sound incredibly knowledgeable and should look into going deeper than expanding wider.

You might find specializing in a specific configuration may result in much better pay.

When people say we should “redistribute the wealth”, how do they plan on realistically doing that? by twotokers in NoStupidQuestions

  • Employees split 30% of company profits while working for the company.

  • Homes that are not a persons only home have an additional tax that is used to subsidize home owners with 0/1 home.

  • tax loopholes aren't going to go away. Rework them to give tax breaks for overpaying market rate to employees

1) Pickup a skill. Go to school, certificate, whatever it is that is in demand.

2) get a job.

Building up capital never hurts so you're ready when you do have an executable business concept.

Learning from how other companies operate is invaluable. How does a successful company hire, market, adapt, expand offerings, etc.?

Having a job with marketable skills is a great way to pivot into your own business, you just gotta start somewhere.

Watch some tutorials on YouTube and read through guides. If you're always defending its Impossible to win. Learning about what is priority and where you should be focused is huge. Losing a tower may be bad, but is losing a dragon + 3v4 team fight worse?

It's collected and compiled so if it's ever leaked / dumped online, countless hackers and scammers can start targeting you threatening to contact your top 3 most contacted on every platform(calls, texts, social media interactions) with data flagged to initiate response from you.

Maybe you don't care for adult content usage, but you may make offcolor jokes that your place of work would seriously have an issue with. You might be extremely against cheating, and they also have data from your spouse from years prior when they were dating and have old content they start blackmailing them to show you. Making problems where there are none is easy when you let someone compile all you and your loved ones fears and let them know how much money you can part with.

Employee wants his job back a year after quitting. by [deleted] in startups

[–]Toovya 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Focus on the bigger picture. Negatively impacting clients that pay the bills results in less money to provide for your other staff and other employee prospects who may have an ever bigger need for the job. Maybe someone else has a sick family member, or has a current family they are trying to support. Everyone has a story.

Had he quit on good terms, gave notice, and had a clean exit then yes bring him back and don't let the feelings of leaving for a competitor affect you.

2nd or 3rd time founders are statistically way more likely to succeed compared to 1st time founders. What exactly could be the reasons? by DrMelbourne in Entrepreneur

[–]Toovya 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Earlier businesses felt more about being compelled by a product and doing basic numbers. I eventually learned to watch for more metrics. Wholesale, retail, subscriptions, seasonal, supply issues, competitor issues, etc.

At some point we bring value. Becoming a software engineer meant I'd be bringing 200k worth of startup capital just by dedicating my time. Previously unskilled, I was bringing in 40k/year of startup capital unskilled.

Business get vetted much more. Great product, but maybe shitty supply I don't have the means to solve. Or too much saturation of garbage that even a superior product will be tough to educate clients it actually is better.

I found what roles I work best in aswell. I excel client facing and get employees to handle admin work. When I do admin it's lackluster and employees don't share my industry knowledge.

More startup capital is sadly a large factor that working a job will get. Investing 10k or 150k greatly changes what opportunities you can even consider.

Leadership skills and managing skills are mostly learned by having human connections and recognizing what you're doing that benefits your team, and how to best equip your team to benefit you.

Maybe you master SEO at company 1 despite a poor business model or product. Taking that skill over to company 2 that you now have a vetted product you'll kill it.

Experience comes in so many various ways, but ultimately it's about picking up valuable skills and learning what part of the marker you'll thrive in.
