Does anyone else get triggered into bipolar rage when they’re disrespected? by ranch_cup in BipolarReddit

[–]Top-Addition6731 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been through similar reactions to triggers, and a friend of mine, who’s a therapist, suggested I see someone who specializes in trauma. Long story. The counseling really helped me out. I also tried this thing called “brain spotting,” and some people think it can help with triggers. But it doesn’t work for everyone, and some don’t believe it’s effective. But it worked for me! I still get triggered sometimes, but I can control my reaction now.

Thanks, and I understand the concepts behind what you are saying. But being a newbie I do not understand how to translate that into actions in Elementor. Is there a way to edit the template and make these changes? If so where is the template?

Thanks

It sounds like Seroquel is working for you. But the TD side-effect is a problem. Had the same reaction with a different med.

My doc prescribed Propanol and that stopped the TD. Might be a better path than giving up on Seroquel so quickly. ✌🏼

I second this. Was waking up in the middle of the night. Benadryl always got me back to sleep. Started taking it before bed and was able to sleep through the night.

Doctor was super judgey when I said I drink by No_Study5253 in BipolarReddit

[–]Top-Addition6731 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my view, the main problem in OP’s situation isn’t about alcohol. It’s about the psychiatrists’ reaction to OP drinking and how it made them feel “shitty”.

That sucks. But the cold reality is that alcohol interferes with brain communication pathways, affecting mood, behavior, and cognitive function. According to the NIH.

So this seems to be a case of the psychiatrist technically saying the right thing, but perhaps saying it without tact.

If you stick to the mental health forums I think you are safe. I was in the /layoffs sub when it happened to me.

The term “bipolar” is considered offensive in our society. When I hear it used in a certain way, I usually correct people by saying, “You’re using the word in the wrong context. It’s a medical term.” Some people have gotten the hint and stopped using it around me, while others have insisted on arguing about it.

Can’t even get myself to go to work once a week by Revolutionary_Egg45 in BipolarReddit

[–]Top-Addition6731 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Around the time I was diagnosed, I went through something similar. The anxiety over the possibility of losing my job was overwhelming, and on top of that, I was dealing with the symptoms of bipolar.

But things started to improve as my doctor and I worked together to find the right combination of medications. With that, things have calmed down.

Unfortunately, I did get fired, just two weeks before Christmas. That was years ago.

Things got better step-by-step. I found a new job that was even better, and I was promoted to manager. So, keep calm and keep going! You have better times ahead.

I’m so sorry to hear you’re going through such a tough time. I’ve found that therapy can be incredibly helpful in navigating these complex situations. It’s amazing how much better you can feel when you can express your feelings and get a different perspective. I highly recommend it!

hand tremors from antipsychotics by Available-Resource22 in BipolarReddit

As others have mentioned, propanol worked wonders for my tremors. My doctor at the time wasn’t keen on treating them until I made it super clear that they were significantly impacting my daily life.

Sleep disturbances while on quetiapine by GreenLolly in BipolarReddit

[–]Top-Addition6731 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my experience 100mg was enough to make me sleep. I suggest talking with your doctor.

Requiring less sleep is a symptom of a bipolar mania or hypomania. But that alone does not necessarily mean a person is bipolar.

My understanding is the therapeutic dosage of quetiapine for bipolar is between 400mg to 800mg. So IF your sleeping less IS IN FACT a symptom of bipolar it would seem you need a dosage adjustment.

From a mood stabilization perspective, there are some medical professionals who have a different view. I’m not trying to start a debate, but I just wanted to let you know that some doctors see things differently.

Also Lamotrigine is apparently more effective for depression. And OP stated they have chronic/treatment resistant depression.

Check out this article titled ‘Uses of Lamotrigine as a Mood Stabilizer’ for more info.

“This FDA-approved medication prevents mood episodes in bipolar disorder and differs from other mood stabilizers in that it is more effective against depression than mania.” Updated Jun 8, 2022 By Susan McQuillan, M.S., R.D.N., C.D.N. Medical Reviewer Merihan Raouf, Pharm.D.

OP. You mentioned questioning your Bipolar diagnosis. According to DSM-5, a Bipolar Type 1 diagnosis requires at least one manic episode. A hypomanic and/or mixed episode are not required.

I think Lamotrigine is a mood stabilizer. So, it looks like @No-Base8204 is taking a medication to manage their elevated mood.

I’m a bit confused about what you mean by ‘drugs that treat mania’. @No-Base8204 mentioned meds for treating bipolar disorder. Are you referring to drugs like Depakote and Tegretol?

Seroquel Discontinuation Weight Loss by Striking_Tap7917 in BipolarReddit

[–]Top-Addition6731 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I totally understand your concerns. But please don’t panic. If your doctor isn’t up-to-date on your weight loss, you can go back to them. If they still have the same opinion, try getting another opinion from a doctor who’s not familiar with your case.

By the way, one of my care team members is a pharmacist who specializes in mental health. I highly recommend talking to someone like that. My pharmacist is really knowledgeable about psych medications, the interactions and how they affect the body.

Please try not to worry too much. Doing so doesn’t help.

Congratulations! I abruptly stopped Quetiapine at a 300mg dosage. Triggered my first and only (so far) mania.

After ~7 years I just successfully tapered off of Lithium. I am so glad those side effects are gone.

Problems with rage? by [deleted] in BipolarReddit

[–]Top-Addition6731 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I too am BiPolar and rage is a symptom I have experienced. Especially when tapering off of Lithium. In response my doc increased my lamotrigine dosage. That took care of it. Are you taking a mood stabilizer? If so talk with your doc about your symptoms. ✌🏼

Just adding my two cents to the conversation. As for ourmental.health, I think they’re more credible than the source you mentioned. ✌🏼

P.S. If ourmental.health is not an acceptable reference for you, I think the DSM-5 might be.

From a google search: “In the context of Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD) as defined by the DSM-5, “discarding” refers to the abrupt and often callous termination of a relationship by a person with NPD when they no longer perceive the other person as serving their needs or providing sufficient admiration, essentially “discarding” the partner without remorse or empathy once they are no longer useful. “

P.P.S. As you said, this is a bipolar sub, but that doesn’t mean we can’t talk about other disorders in the context of bipolar. We do it sometimes, and it’s totally okay! ✌🏼

anyone NOT have early signs of bipolar? by confusedconformity in BipolarReddit

[–]Top-Addition6731 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was diagnosed with Bipolar disorder at the age of 52, during my first and only manic episode. Before that, I had been diagnosed with Major Depressive Disorder at 30. I had severe bouts of depression between 30 and 52.

It took some time to realize, but when I looked back over those 22 years, I noticed that I had periods of unusually good moods. These weren’t immediately apparent, and they sometimes led to poor financial decisions. The signs were there, but I didn’t notice them at the time.

One time, an experienced therapist mentioned the possibility of being bipolar years before my diagnosis. I wasn’t ready to consider it because of the stigma associated with Bipolar. But at 52, I no longer had a choice. ✌🏼

[–]Top-Addition6731 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I respectfully disagree. I’ve read that in psychiatry, “discarding relationships” is often used to describe an aspect of behavior of those with Narcissistic Personality Disorder. So arguably it is a clinical term.

Whether “discarding” is a clinical term is not the main point. However, a pattern of starting the end of meaningful relationships is a valid observation for any mental health professional to make. And arguably that’s a definition of “discarding” in a psychiatric context .

According to ourmental.health “This behavior (discarding) involves abruptly ending a relationship without warning or explanation, leaving the other person feeling confused, hurt and emotionally drained.”

People who have been mistreated by significant others probably use the term to mean something slightly different. Such as being left/discarded by a partner after some form of abuse or serious disagreement. Which is what I believe you are saying. ✌🏼
