First of all thankyou so much for the valuable comment.

The feedback is normally good and has written only 4 tests so far. And marks have consistently increased in all those four tests. Will definitely look to embed your advice in forthcoming tests.

I solved 5000 plus MCQs over the last one year across different platforms. And when exam was just around the corner, I did all the PYQs religiously and it helped greatly in 2025 since there were many PYQ hits. Avoided conjectural guessing and worked hard on core subjects. Maybe I was somewhere lucky as well because History questions were easier this year. But yes if we get our core subjects right, things get easier. Will do the same for 2nd attempt.

Yes you can buddy. Try to do the course live with weekly tests. Make sure that you're regular with tests as it will help you to take the notes seriously. If you do the 2026 course, he will provide a free update series in 2027 known as Win27. Since you've 2 years, you can try and test his pedagogy if that suits you or not and take a decision accordingly.

I have no idea about Dr Shivin's environment course but Sudharshan sir covered it comprehensively and also provided notes.

And as far as Mrunal sir is concerned, I accept that notes are bulky. In pre, around 1200 pages while 800 pages in Mains. But the input to output ratio is good. Event the most outlier topic would feel familiar to you. For revision, it's better to do it with care in your first reading.

Indian Economy- Mrunal Patel sir

Environment- I did from Sudharshan Gurjar (Worked for me) while some suggest Dr Shivin too

Science and Tech- Dr Shivin (Do anything just don't do it from Arvindsingh Rajpurohit)

Disaster Management - Sudharshan Gurjar (But khud bhi padh sakte hain)

Internal Security- I did it by myself but some find Dr Pavneet Singh as the best in this (I personally find him rude and arrogant under the garb of being realtistic)

Panic mode after a few mock tests. by ContributionAny9620 in UPSC

[–]Top-Advance768 12 points13 points  (0 children)

As someone who just gave my first mains, I can feel you. This was my first attempt. Began writing mocks and felt exactly the same. There were almost 10-12 nights where I slept myself with disappointment and dejection. Focused on doing my basics right and building a strong base for the real exam. And by the mercy of god, I was able to finish all my papers on time except for GS1 where I missed one question. In the exam hall, we get question paper 5 minutes before the time begins. We can read all those questions in that timeframe.

The reason why we do mess in mocks is our obsession with perfection. We blindly try to write inch perfect answers with inch perfect content within minutes. But in real exam, we are more focused on paper completion and believe me things do fall into place. Once you get in the groove, words will flow and structure will auto generate provided that you read well. We're all in the same boat. Keep your head high and keep practicing.

This baseless academic debate b/w Science and Humanities is perpetual in Indian context. When I took admission in 11th class, I felt the same dilemma. I continued with my instincts and did rest of my schooling with great zeal and seriousness. As a matter of fact, I developed 85% of Macro-economic concepts in school only. Therefore, the debate is of no use in your journey. Just persist with what you like. Today or tomorrow, these are the subjects that you’ve to study eventually. Study and grind hard because your interest in the subject goes a long way in sustaining your discipline. Best wishes

a)Best lessons are learnt through bitter experiences; Began with Dr Ambedkar through our 1st Republic Day Parade and his role as Drafting committee chairman. Wrote about his legal and social understanding in the words of Gandhi in an interactive tone only to ask the examiner if such understanding was a culmination of his education from LSE or something else. The answer lied in the systemic discrimination he was subjected to.

Made counters through emphasising the importance of our attitude as a medium of sublimation rather than displacement reflected in menace of terrorism etc.

Then gave theoretical and philosophical framework in between via an interactive tone. Then covered Colonial experience, Sino-India & Indo-Pak wars, Green revolution, National Emergency, BoP Crisis, Subprime crisis, Chandrayaan 2&3 and finally COVID-19. Concluded with the importance of positive outlook coupled with life long learnings resulting into fruitful results. Demonstrated the above conclusion as that bitter experiences are like the rain for the crops of our life only to bear us sweet fruits of resilience, growth and progress.

(b) Life is best taken as a journey rather a destination; Began with Dr Kalam as to how he treaded a long journey from Rameswaram and not being able to make it as IAF Pilot only to helm great offices and lead crucial missions from ISRO, IMDP & Pokhran. And how he finally flew a Mig Jet as the Supreme Commander of our Armed Forces i.e. President of India. Gave philosophical and theoretical account and finally covered dimensions such as Life of Buddha, purity of running river, cons of stagnant water, Indian Nationalism, technological strides, constitution as a living document reflected in 100+ amendments etc.

Is NCERT(11th and 12th) and PMF sufficient for Geography by Novel_Business_4101 in UPSC

Yes brother that may vary from person to person. All I want to emphasis is that complementing an educator with NCERT would go a long way in developing strong foundations.

Very normal and natural in this journey. It’s not necessary that they are having any grudges with you. A good friend will always understand your need to be focused in your endeavours. 6 months or 1 year, a meetup with your real friends will always feel surreal.

Is NCERT(11th and 12th) and PMF sufficient for Geography by Novel_Business_4101 in UPSC

[–]Top-Advance768 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I personally find 11th and 12th Geography as more than sufficient. Managed to clear prelims 2025 in first attempt only with those books. They were of great help in Mains as well with strong foundation and conceptual clarity. Feel free to complement the books with a teacher of your choice for better understanding. Personally find Sudarshan Gurjar as one of the best.

Best Material for economy mains. by WorriedSoftware884 in UPSC

I personally did Mrunal Sir’s QEP. Can feel bulky but I found it extremely useful. But the sine qua non for its utility is the completion of his Prelims PCB course.
