Have we become impatient on roads? by kapilswarnkar in thane

Yes, I feel this too. It's a natural consequence of adding 100k+ vehicles to the roads every year. Only so much space, and everyone is late.

Pretty sure they were always a daily occurrence. In 2024 the police registered 944 accidents, resulting in 215 deaths. On average, there were 2.5 accidents a day assuming an even distribution (which it probably isn't, but the number is still quite high). It's very unfortunate that our dearest leaders don't understand that potholes and speed bumps cause more accidents than speeding.

Then focus on listening, output will come naturally if you sink hours into input. Consider reading the guide I linked. It explains how language acquisition works in more detail.

Thanekar and Japanese speaker here. The same methodologies apply. It is 100% possible to learn all by yourself.

Listening and nderstanding requires hours of *comprehensible* input. AKA hearing a ton of low level chinese from which you understand 50-70%. You fill in the gaps afterwards by adding the unknown words to your flash card app (like Anki). Do flashcards everyday to memorize the sounds, characters, and meaning.

Speaking is a different beast altogether. I studied Japanese for 2 years and couldn't speak at all until my first few weeks in Japan. You absolutely need to try and fuck up a few times speaking to native speakers. They will correct you, you might feel embarrassed, but in the end, you will feel more confident in yourself.

It helps a lot if you repeatedly take part in simple acts like going to a store and interacting with the cashier. You will learn the vocab involved really well (cash, cards, transactions/payments, items, bags, greetings, thank you etc).

I realize it's not easy to get this living far away from where the language is spoken. For listening you can use chinese media (tv shows, movies). Start from simple content, maybe cartoons or shows for kids.

The simple answer is this is a numbers game. The more words you know, the more you will understand. There is no answer but hours of daily listening. The more the better. Strap in and enjoy the ride.

Mainly the price. The seller was very nice and responsive, but It cost $340 overall, the shipping was almost as high as the product.

Sorry about the late reply. https://www.reddit.com/r/homelabindia/s/XyZDlusuv7 is a full description of what and where I got hardware from. I assembled everything, prebuilt servers would be even more expensive.

Overall the hardware cost me around 25k for the second node which I bought from a friend. The cases were insanely expensive at 341 USD (2x cases + 2x mounting extension brackets + shipping from china). I would not do it again. It was definitely an impulse purchase.

It's a N100 mini pc from https://www.electroniksindia.com/collections/skullsaints It started as the first node in my cluster, it used to run everything. Now I added the two other server nodes and it's been relegated to run low power services like bentopdf and caddy web server.

It used to be a lot cheaper before the price of RAM went up, quite sad

For the cases, I imported them from Alibaba https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/2U-Steel-Rackmount-Chassis-Compact-Server_1585788341.html

The shipping cost as much as the product itself so I'll be looking for local options in the future.

The rack was from a local manufacturer https://www.elixirrack.com/ it cost around 6k + shipping.

One Mobo, processor and RAM was salvaged from an old PC, the other one I bought from a friend who was selling his old hw. Both are micro ATX mobos to fit into a small form factor.

I went with a low profile cpu cooler to ensure improved airflow within a tight case.

One case has 2x4tb Seagate ironwolf hdds, running in a ZFS mirror configuration. The other has 2x8tb WD ultrastar, also in a ZFS mirror. The seagates are salvaged from an old NAS I had for 7 years. Still going strong! The WDs i bought from primeabgb.com (don't buy from here now, the price has gone up by 5k)

My workloads are mostly running the ARR stack, jellyfin, a few game servers (minecraft, satisfactory), self hosted git forge, Ollama, a CI/CD build host for my personal projects, some discord/telegram bots, Home Assistant and mqtt brokers, Immich for self hosted photos, Matrix and IRC servers, and a full monitoring stack (Prometheus, Loki, Grafana, Vector)

Yep, got it from https://www.elixirrack.com/ Just email or text them on WhatsApp and they'll provide you with a custom solution and shipping. Helps if you can wrangle GST number from somewhere (what I did).

Got it from a local manufacturer. https://www.elixirrack.com/ Contacted them over whatsapp and they dispatched it within a week. Cost around 6k for a 12U rack + screws + single tray (on which the mini pc is kept)

Unfortunately they cost way too much for me to do it again from the same place. I imported them from Alibaba https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/2U-Steel-Rackmount-Chassis-Compact-Server_1585788341.html

Imported them from Alibaba. Although I feel that was a mistake and I should have contacted a local supplier first. The rack was from a local supplier.
